Abstract

Low mathematics learning outcomes are often associated with psychological factors, particularly learning motivation and self-efficacy. This study aims to examine the role of learning motivation and self-efficacy in students’ mathematics learning outcomes. A Systematic Literature Review was conducted on 15 articles published between 2020 and 2026, retrieved from Google Scholar, Scopus, and Sinta using the PRISMA framework. The results indicate that learning motivation and self-efficacy generally have a positive and significant impact on learning outcomes, although variations are influenced by contextual factors, research methods, and supporting variables. Furthermore, the literature is dominated by quantitative approaches and studies at the undergraduate level. In conclusion, learning motivation and self-efficacy are key determinants of mathematics learning outcomes; however, limitations in sample scope and research design persist. Future research should adopt mixed-method approaches, include more diverse samples, and incorporate additional contextual variables to provide more comprehensive insights.

Abstract

In the digital learning era, YouTube has become an alternative learning medium that potentially provides affective support during learning. This study aims to explore the role of YouTube videos as affective e-scaffolding in integral learning. The study employed a qualitative approach using content analysis and a netnographic approach. The data sources consisted of user comments on three integral learning videos selected through purposive sampling based on several criteria, namely long-duration videos, high view counts, active comment interactions, and systematic explanations of integral material. Data were collected through digital documentation and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman,. The findings revealed three main indicators of affective e-scaffolding: anxiety reduction, increased motivation and self-efficacy, and frustration control. User comments demonstrated that YouTube videos not only facilitated conceptual understanding but also provided emotional support in overcoming learning obstacles in integrals. This study contributes to the development of digital scaffolding theory by emphasizing the importance of affective dimensions in technology-based mathematics learning.

Abstract

This research examines the impact of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students' mathematical problem-solving proficiency in the context of integers. Adopting a quasi-experimental design, 54 seventh-grade students were assigned to either an experimental or control group. Statistical analysis—including normality, homogeneity, N-gain, and independent t-tests—indicated that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group (N-gain of 0.84 vs. 0.54; p < 0.05). These findings suggest that implementing the PBL model provides a more effective pedagogical alternative to conventional methods for improving students' mathematical problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively analyze and describe the mathematical concept understanding ability of junior high school students on the topic of sets. The novelty of this research lies in the in-depth analysis of misconceptions for each indicator across all student ability levels. The method used is descriptive qualitative, involving a sample of 25 seventh-grade students at a private junior high school in Cimahi City. Data were collected through a test instrument consisting of three essay questions representing each indicator. The results showed that: (1) Students with a high ability level (16%) successfully mastered all indicators, although there were still minor inaccuracies in the classifying indicator; (2) Students with a medium ability level (76%) were only able to fulfill the restating indicator, but failed to provide logical reasoning for classifying and had not achieved the target for categorizing; (3) Students with a low ability level (8%) failed to meet the criteria across all indicators, indicating fundamental misconceptions in solving set problems. In conclusion, the mathematical understanding of the majority of students falls into the medium category, which is influenced by their lack of enthusiasm for learning.
