Abstract

Pyrethroid pesticide poisoning cases in developed and developing countries have a high incidence every year. One of the pyrethroid active substances that is widely used as an ingredient in anti-human lice shampoo (Pediculus humanus capitis) is permethrin 1%. The poisoning effect of permethrin-based shampoo as an anti-lice shampoo has been little studied, and there is a need to find alternative active ingredients from plants as a substitute for 1% permethrin, namely bangle (Zingiber montanum). The purpose of this study was to determine the toxicity of using shampoo made from 1% permethrin and made from bangle rhizome extract with graded doses through changes in kidney histopathology. The type of research was post test only control complete randomized design using 25 male mice, which were randomly divided into 5 groups, namely negative control (baby shampoo), positive control (1% permethrin shampoo), shampoo treatment made from bangle rhizome extract with graded doses (0.5%, 1%, and 2%). The shampoo was applied topically on the head for 14 days. After the mice were sacrificed, the kidneys were processed into tissues by paraffin method and stained with HE. Renal tubular injury was examined using a 400x magnification light microscope. The results showed the average changes in kidney histopathology in mice treated with 1% permethrin shampoo and 2% bangle rhizome extract shampoo, although not significantly different (p>0.05). Histopathological changes in the kidneys of mice that were seen were fatty degeneration which caused swelling of the proximal tubules and necrosis of kidney cells

Abstract

Practicum is a process to gain meaningful learning experience through hands-on and hands-on activities. Factors that cause constraints in biology practicum include incomplete tools, unavailable materials, and unavailability of practicum guides. The practicum guides circulating in schools also have various problems. Therefore, it is necessary to reconstruct the practicum guide and the existence of tools and materials that can be an alternative or solution that can overcome problems in the practicum of catalase enzyme. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with the ANCORB flow (Analysis-Test-Reconstruction-Test). The samples used were five pieces of catalase enzyme practicum guides (LKS) from various sources with sampling techniques in purposive sampling. The analysis showed that the average LKS of catalase enzyme had a fairly good score but still needed LKS reconstruction that could measure the work of catalase enzyme quantitatively accompanied by alternative tools and materials in catalase enzyme practicum. The alternative tools that can be used are tools assembled using a syringe and a three-way stopcock. At the same time, alternative materials that can be used are water with acidic and alkaline pH, lime, lime water and clothes bleach as a substitute for hydrogen peroxide

Abstract

The use of antibiotics is still carried out in the health world so that it will cause a big problem, namely antibiotic resistance. The use of antibiotics has also been limited but cannot be stopped. The use of probiotics as therapy in the world of health is increasing every year, so it is necessary to study the combination of antibiotics and probiotics so as not to reduce the effectiveness of probiotics later. This study aims to determine the resistance ability of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolates from Buffalos Milk Fermentation (called as dadiah) Bukittinggi against antibiotics. This research uses a descriptive, experimental method where the observations made are related to the total mass of isolates per ml and the clear zone of LAB isolates from dadiah Bukittinggi against antibiotics. In this study, five types of LAB isolates from dadiah Bukittinggi were used, and it was found that the total mass of isolates ranged from 4-194 x108 CFU/ml. In addition to antibiotic resistance, it was known that dadiah LAB isolates resisted Kanamycin and Penicillin by 75%. While on the antibiotic chloramphenicol, ampicillin and tetracyclin, the four isolates are suspect to the antibiotic. The five LAB isolates of dadiah used in the study, DS1 isolate had the best total mass and was resistant to kanamycin and penicillin

Abstract

This research was conducted in February-March 2023, at the Dharmawangsa University Laboratory. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of fish meal substitution using maggot flour in floating pellets on growth, life expectancy of tilapia and FCR (Food Conversion Ratio). Tilapia is widely cultivated by the community so that it has economic value with high market demand. The high price of feed causes many farmers to suffer losses. To overcome the problem of losses, cultivators use maggot as a substitute for fish meal to be used as a local raw material which has the advantage of being relatively cheap, high protein and increasing the digestibility of fish. The research method used experimental methods with the treatment of artificial feeding with fish meal protein sources and maggot flour protein sources and analyzed using the T test. The results of absolute growth research on fish meal pellets were 3.5 and maggot flour pellets 3.6. This shows that maggot flour can be used as a local raw material in the manufacture of fish feed. The results of the survival rate of tilapia by giving fish meal pellets were 60% and giving maggot flour pellets was 55%. Fish meal pellets and giving maggot flour pellets show that they can support the basic needs of fish and can support fish life. The results of the study showed that the FCR value for fish meal pellets was 1.36 and for maggot flour pellets was 1.36.
