Abstract

The phenomenon of political dynasties is a contemporary issue that continually generates controversy, particularly with regard to moral legitimacy and the personalization of power within democratic practices in Indonesia. The ethical heritage of Javanese literature offers a value framework that is relevant to this issue, one of which is the value of nobility as taught in Serat Wicara Keras. This article is the result of research that applies the hermeneutic method to reveal the teachings of the value of nobility in Serat Wicara Keras as the formal object of the study, with the phenomenon of political dynasties in Indonesia serving as the material object. Library research was employed as the data collection method, beginning with planning, data inventory, data analysis, and classification. The results of the study are as follows: (1) Serat Wicara Keras is a literary work written by Yasadhipura II within the context of Javanese feudal culture. The work reflects Yasadhipura II’s critical reflection on social conditions during the leadership of Pakubuwana IV as the successor of the Islamic Mataram dynasty. (2) The value of nobility in Serat Wicara Keras is referred to as awirya, which constitutes the principal value that must be realized in order to avoid bilai (calamity). According to Yasadhipura II, nobility is not grounded in lineage, but in how an individual undertakes spiritual and ethical discipline (lelaku) until achieving mental and spiritual readiness for attaining nobility. (3) The practice of political dynasties in Indonesia is rooted in a culture of patronage and political personalization found in the leadership of several political parties. Yasadhipura II views the occurrence of political dynasties as a natural phenomenon; however, such dynasties must maintain nobility by adhering to processes that conform to the established moral order and principles.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the representation of sexual violence involving a perpetrator with a physical disability (locomotor disability) in the online media portal Tribunnews.com. The case presents a unique discursive phenomenon where the perpetrator’s physical condition triggers a narrative contestation regarding crime and vulnerability. This study employed qualitative critical discourse analysis using Sara Mills’ framework. Data from seven news articles were analyzed through a three-stage procedure: identifying the subject position (agency and narrative control), examining the object position (passive representation), and interpreting the power relations implied within the textual structure. The results reveal an asymmetrical pattern of representation between the perpetrator and the victim. The perpetrator is consistently constructed as a dominant subject through discursive strategies that highlight emotional narratives and disability accommodations, which shifts the news focus from the criminal act to demands for public sympathy. Conversely, the female victim is marginalized as a passive object whose direct perspective is either filtered through third-party advocates or completely omitted from the narrative. This structural imbalance positions the perpetrator as the focal point of legal and social empathy while subordinating the victim's trauma.

Abstract

The implementation of the Independent Curriculum requires prospective teachers to be able to adapt pedagogically so that learning designs align with the characteristics of the educational unit. However, research on the pedagogical adaptation of teaching assistant students has focused primarily on teaching practice experiences and has not examined the alignment between Learning Outcomes (CP), Learning Objectives (TP), Learning Objective Paths (ATP), and school characteristics. This study aims to analyze the alignment of the learning designs of teaching assistant students in the Indonesian Language Education Study Program at UIN Syekh Wasil Kediri with the characteristics of high school and vocational high school educational units. The novelty of this research lies in the definition of pedagogical adaptation as a process of aligning learning tools with the school context. The study used a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data were obtained through document analysis of learning tools, in-depth interviews, and observations of teaching assistant students, mentor teachers, and supervising lecturers. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results indicate that the CP, TP, and ATP developed by students are appropriate to the characteristics of the educational unit, while the learning models and methods support student needs and school conditions. However, pedagogical adaptation still requires strengthening in terms of contextualization, particularly the integration of vocational characteristics in vocational schools and local contexts in senior high schools. These findings confirm that prospective teachers' pedagogical adaptation is the ability to align curriculum demands with school realities in implementing the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

Although compounding has been widely examined within linguistic research, a systematic overview of its semantic research landscape remains underdeveloped. This study addresses this gap by offering a scientometric mapping of trends and thematic orientations in semantic research on compounding. Drawing on a corpus of 376 publications indexed in the Scopus database between 2014 and 2024, the analysis adopts a quantitative approach and employs VOSviewer to examine publication patterns, thematic structures, and research trajectories. The findings point to a steadily expanding field, with an average annual increase of approximately three publications and an overall growth of 187.5% across the eleven-year period. Reading and Writing, Cognition, and Mental Lexicon emerge as the most prominent publication venues. Thematic analysis identified three principal clusters: (a) “Compounding Formation and Description” (40.71%), encompassing terms such as “affixation,” “morphology,” “neologism,” and “word formation process,” (b) “Cognitive and Developmental Aspects of Compounding” (20.09%), characterized by keywords including “morphological awareness,” “comprehension,” “development,” and “student.”, and (c) “Semantic Interpretation and Theoretical Frameworks” (29.20%), which includes terms such as “word meaning,” “semantic composition,” “syntax,” and “theory.” Taken together, these findings offer insights into the current state and trajectory of compounding research in the light of semantics, highlighting key themes within the current patterns of advancement.

Abstract

Lexical richness is one indicator of vocabulary diversity in a text and is important to study in order to understand the characteristics of language across various genres. However, to date, comparisons of lexical richness across books of different genres have been limited. Therefore, this study aims to compare the lexical richness of three Indonesian-language books, namely Visi Anak Pasar, Yang Fana Adalah Waktu, and Tata Bahasa Baku Bahasa Indonesia, using the Mean Segmental Type-Token Ratio (MSTTR) based on lexical richness theory. This study was conducted using a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative approach was carried out using an explanatory technique with the MSTTR instrument. Meanwhile, the qualitative approach was carried out using corpus analysis techniques, including frequency analysis using a concordance plot, morphological analysis, and contextual analysis using the Leipzig-Corpora corpus. The results of the study show that the autobiography Visi Anak Pasar has the highest average MSTTR value, at 51.5 per cent, followed by the novel Yang Fana Adalah Waktu’ at 45.9 per cent, whilst the book Tata Bahasa Baku Bahasa Indonesia has the lowest average MSTTR value, at 39 per cent. These findings suggest that the personal narrative genre exhibits a higher tendency for lexical repetition compared to the other two books. Consequently, MSTTR can be used as a tool for comparing lexical characteristics across genres in a more balanced manner. Keywords: Lexical richness; Mean Segmental Type–Token Ratio (MSTTR); texs genre.

Abstract

Disinclined to discuss “happiness” in its fundamental context. This study investigates why happiness proves challenging to incorporate as a primary subject in literary works. The prominent focus and originality of this study is the role of happiness concerning the social position, characters, and setting within the narrative structure. Six works: Sitti Nurbaya, Salah Asuhan, Belenggu, Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk, Wasripin dan Satinah, and Bumi Manusia represent storytelling that infrequently portrays happiness. Within these works, a qualitative approach is used in selecting data based on purposive sampling. On the one hand, the analysis requires a conceptual framework on happiness that is grounded in eudaimonia and its subsequent derivative concepts. Eudaimonia translates as “flourishing” or “well-being” and is often equated with living wisely. On the other hand, Žižek’s theory of social fantasy also assists this research by exploring how narratives shape our understanding of the social environment. A fantasy that “teaches us how to desire”. The analysis shows that the characters in those novels have the potential to achieve happiness. Nevertheless, the social fantasy of society (the authors) encounters limitations in identifying a model of happiness, prompting an exploration of religious and/or spiritual dimensions. The situations of happiness are more of a pursuit than a reason. Ultimately, this study contributes to contemporary literary criticism related to happiness and social context. The social structuration lies at the state level, where the dominance of ideological frameworks overlooks the fulfilments of (social) justice, humanity, unity, and even divinity.
