Abstract

Study of the social facts contained in Madurese songs can contribute to developing an understanding of cultural insight, especially Madurese culture. This research aims to examine the social facts contained in Madurese songs and how these facts can support the understanding of cultural insight for high school students in Madura. The approach in this research is a qualitative approach. This research using qualitative methods aims to thoroughly understand the characteristics of the side effects felt by the research subjects. The research results in this study are divided into two, namely material and non-material social facts. However, the data produced in material social facts does not exist. Meanwhile, non-material social facts received 13 data consisting of morality, collective consciousness, collective representation and social flows. The social facts that appear in the 7 Madura songs are non-material social facts. These Madurese songs contain non-material social facts consisting of morality, collective consciousness, collective representation and social flows. The results of the analysis of non-material social facts contained in these songs can be used by teachers to be used as teaching material in learning in Phase F so that they can support the understanding of cultural insight for high school students.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the feasibility of Virtual Reality (VR)-based instructional media to enhance students’ writing skills in composing observational report texts at the junior secondary school level. The research is grounded in the observed deficiencies in students' writing competence, which stem from limited access to real-life observational experiences and the prevalent use of conventional, non-contextual learning media. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), this study involved data collection through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and expert validation. The data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings indicate that the developed VR-based media is highly feasible, as evidenced by expert appraisals and positive feedback from both teachers and students. Furthermore, the results of quasi-experimental testing demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in students’ writing performance. These findings suggest that integrating VR technology into Indonesian language instruction provides a more contextualized, interactive, and meaningful learning experience, thus fostering the achievement of educational goals in the digital era.

Abstract

This study examines the role of microblogging platforms such as Twitter (X) and Threads as digital literacy tools to enhance the writing skills of high school students within the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) Program. The background of this research stems from the high usage of social media among Indonesian adolescents (89% according to APJII, 2023), which remains underutilized for educational purposes. Using a digital ethnography approach, the study analyzed the activities of 30 students over 4-6 months through microblog content observation (150+ posts), in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The results indicate that interactive features of microblogging platforms, such as real-time feedback, significantly boosted students' writing motivation (85% of respondents) and improved writing quality, including enhanced diction precision (45%) and inter-sentence cohesion (32%). However, challenges such as distractions (45% of students), platform misuse (25%), and disparities in digital literacy among skill groups were also identified. These findings underscore the potential of microblogging as an effective pedagogical tool, provided it is supported by structured strategies, teacher training, and digital risk mitigation. This study offers practical recommendations for educators to integrate microblogging into curricula while addressing gaps in the literature on social media-based digital literacy in the Indonesian context.

Abstract

This study explores how ecolinguistics and futurology can be integrated into English language learning through a contextual and culturally responsive approach. The focus of this study is the Foreign Language Development Programme (FLDP) at UIN Madura, specifically the English language module that discusses traditional herbal medicine as an important part of the traditional knowledge of the Madurese community. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data was collected through content analysis and interviews with lecturers and students. The results of the study indicate that the integration of ecolinguistic content can improve vocabulary mastery, foster environmental awareness, and strengthen students' cultural identity. Learning materials that highlight local ecological knowledge encourage critical thinking skills, cultural pride, and active student participation. Despite challenges in implementation, such as the need for more local materials and training for lecturers or tutors, ecolinguistic-based English language learning has proven to be an effective pedagogical strategy in creating sustainable education rooted in local culture. Through an ecological approach, it demonstrates that students are not only language learners but also environmentally conscious global citizens proud of their culture.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the strategic role of forensic linguistics as a scientific tool for evidentiary analysis in cyberbullying cases involving Generation Z, while also examining the correlation between digital legal literacy and their engagement in online hate speech. Employing a qualitative methodology with a descriptive-analytic approach, this research integrates multimodal data sources: digital text analysis from social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook), in-depth interviews with legal and linguistic experts, and a structured survey involving 75 Generation Z respondents. The results demonstrate that cyberbullying discourse is predominantly manifested through forms such as sarcasm, body shaming, covert threats, and discriminatory labeling—often disguised within colloquial digital expressions. Forensic linguistic analysis proves instrumental in identifying latent illocutionary acts and semantic-pragmatic structures that constitute violations under the Indonesian Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). The findings further reveal that a significant proportion of Generation Z lacks foundational knowledge of digital legal norms, thereby increasing their vulnerability to either perpetrating or tolerating cyberbullying. This study proposes a three-pillar model of digital legal literacy—comprising the identification of unlawful expressions, comprehension of digital legal frameworks, and practical reporting competence—as a preventative educational framework. The research highlights the necessity for interdisciplinary collaboration between linguists, legal practitioners, and educators to address language-based cybercrimes in an increasingly digitized society.

Abstract

Abstract

The persistent use of traditional teaching methods is often underrated and dismissed as outdated in Indonesia, but this does not mean it should be abandoned entirely. By preserving traditional practices and combining with multimodality, this study explores the transformative potential of Multimodality, focusing on the Critical Framing (CF) of the Multiliteracy Pedagogy Frameworks (MPF) under the New London Group (NLG), and Transformative of Eco-Linguistics and Eco-Cultural Awareness. Focusing on East Java, Indonesia, the research employs a transformative case study involving a Ph.D. student serving as a lecturer and language learners in a green university. CF emerges as a groundbreaking approach to foster students' critical thinking, cultural integration, and learning evolution. The findings reveal CF's effectiveness in enabling essential analysis of Film Promotion and exploring identity, ideology, and values. It introduces gradually dismantling scaffolded instruction in diverse learning contexts. CF promotes the new multimodal designs to realize quality education, local tourism, and facilitate eco-cultural wisdom.

Abstract

Visual literacy and academic stress are critical issues in 21st-century education, particularly for students of Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) who face the dual challenges of cultural identity and academic demands. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of science practicum-based learning in enhancing students’ ability to interpret visual representations while simultaneously reducing academic stress. The research employed a one-group pre-test and post-test experimental design involving 25 seventh-grade students, with instruments consisting of a visual literacy test and a modified Student-Life Stress Inventory (SLSI) questionnaire. The findings revealed a significant increase in students’ visual literacy scores, from an average of 50.8 to 72, with a paired t-test result of p = 0.000 (< 0.05), confirming that practicum-based learning strengthens students’ capacity to read and interpret visual representations in line with constructivist theory. Furthermore, academic stress measurement on 24 students showed that 37% were in the low-stress category, 63% in moderate stress, and none in high stress, indicating that practicum-based learning effectively alleviates academic stress. However, the relatively high proportion of moderate stress highlights the need for additional strategies such as psychosocial support and time management. This study underscores that practicum-based learning not only improves visual literacy but also serves as a humanistic approach that promotes students’ academic well-being and supports the development of 21st-century curricula.

Abstract

Street toponymy is a linguistic representation that reflects the social and cultural identity of a region. This study aims to examine the language structure used in street naming in Bali Province and project its role and transformation in future cultural contexts. The study was conducted through a linguistic analysis of street names spread across various regions of Bali, focusing on the morphological, syntactic, and semantic elements contained therein. The results of the analysis indicate that street naming in Bali is dominated by elements of regional languages, local figures, religious terms, and strong geographical elements. This structure demonstrates the close link between language and local values of the Balinese people. However, in the face of globalization, tourism, and the digitalization of geographic information systems, the existence and form of these toponyms have the potential to shift. Cultural projections indicate that preserving the linguistic structure in street naming is crucial to maintaining the continuity of Balinese cultural identity amidst changing times. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating culturally aware and forward-looking street naming policies.
