Abstract

ABSTRACT Mangrove ecosystems provide vital ecological services including coastal protection, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity support. However, land conversion and low conservation awareness have led to degradation, diminishing their ecological and economic functions. This study aims to design an environmental education-based ecotourism development concept for the Pancer Mangrove Ecotourism Area, Kasemen District, Serang City, Banten Province. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through direct field observation on March 7, 2026, supported by flora and fauna documentation. The results reveal rich mangrove biodiversity consisting of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Rhizophora mucronata, and Avicennia marina, alongside characteristic fauna such as Scylla serrata, Periophthalmus argentilineatus, and Egretta garzetta. Based on these findings, two tourism packages were designed: Package A (general ecotourism) and Package B (environmental education ecotourism), the latter integrating mangrove planting activities and QR code-based digital education media. This development has the potential to enhance visitors’ environmental awareness, support mangrove ecosystem conservation, and provide economic benefits for local communities. Future efforts should focus on strengthening local community capacity and improving collaboration among government, communities, and academics to realize sustainable and educational ecotourism. Abstract

ABSTRACT Customary forests play a strategic role in biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation through indigenous community-based governance. However, studies integrating institutional governance and local wisdom in customary forest management remain limited. This study examines the governance system and implementation of local wisdom in the Datuk Rangkayo Mulio Customary Forest, Dusun Baru Pelepat, Jambi. A qualitative exploratory approach with common-pool resources institutional analysis was employed. The findings reveal a hybrid institutional arrangement combining genealogical customary institutions that maintain social legitimacy with modern functional institutions (LPHA and KUPS) responsible for technical and administrative management. Governance is supported by four pillars of local wisdom: access control, ecological harvesting standards, community-based economic instruments, and restorative customary sanctions. Forest management has shifted from passive conservation to benefit-based conservation through environmental services, non-timber forest products, ecotourism, and the Dondang Kayu tree adoption program. This governance model balances biodiversity conservation and community welfare while supporting climate change mitigation, highlighting the importance of strengthening indigenous community capacity for sustainable customary forest governance.   Keywords: customary forest, governance, local wisdom, benefit-based conservation, Jambi.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Soybean (Glycine max L.) is a strategic food commodity in Indonesia; however, its productivity remains relatively low compared to the yield potential of superior varieties. One contributing factor is the efficiency of nutrient uptake by the plants. Eco-enzyme, a fermented organic waste product, has the potential to act as a bioactivator and biostimulant in supporting plant growth. This study aimed to investigate the effect of eco-enzyme application and determine the optimal application method for soybean growth and yield. The research was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jambi, from October 2025 to January 2026, using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with a single factor comprising five treatments: 0 mL L⁻¹ (P0), 10 mL L⁻¹ via soil drenching (P1), 20 mL L⁻¹ via soil drenching (P2), 7 mL L⁻¹ drenching + 3 mL L⁻¹ foliar spray (P3), and 14 mL L⁻¹ drenching + 6 mL L⁻¹ foliar spray (P4). Observed parameters included plant growth rate, relative growth rate, leaf area index, net assimilation rate, harvest index, 100-seed weight, number of pods per plant, and yield per hectare. The results indicated that eco-enzyme application did not significantly affect growth parameters, harvest index, or the number of pods per plant. However, the eco-enzyme did influence 100-seed weight. The best treatment was the application of 20 mL L⁻¹ eco-enzyme via soil drenching (P2), which resulted in a 100-seed weight of 21.27 g.   Keywords: eco-enzyme, soybean, growth, yield, ultisol   ABSTRAK Kedelai (Glycine max L.) merupakan komoditas pangan strategis di Indonesia, namun produktivitasnya masih relatif rendah dibandingkan dengan potensi hasil varietas unggul. Abstract

ABSTRACT Open-pit coal mining in Jambi causes massive degradation of physical, chemical, and biological qualities of soil. Revegetation using pioneer plants serves as a primary strategy to restore the ecological functions of the land. This study aims to quantify the population of ammonifying bacteria, analyze soil chemical properties, and examine the causal relationships among these variables in a five-year-old revegetation site. Soil sampling was conducted systematically at depths of 0–5 cm and 5–10 cm beneath three pioneer stands and an unvegetated plot. The Most Probable Number method was employed to enumerate the bacterial population, while chemical analyses included the electrometric method (pH), Furnace method (organic C), and Kjeldahl method (total N). The results indicated that soil depth and plant species had a highly significant effect on the ammonifying bacteria population. The highest population of ammonifying bacteria was found under Jabon at 8.1 Log cells/g of soil, followed by Sengon at 7.8 Log cells/g of soil, and Mahogany at 5.5 Log cells/g of soil, with population sizes decreasing as soil depth increased, while the lowest population was observed in the control site. Soil chemical properties including N-total, C-organic and pH showed strong positive correlations and significantly influenced the increase in ammonifying bacteria quantity, with N-total contributing 51.5%, C-organic 47.4% and pH 42.9% to the effect. The implications of this study prove that revegetation using sengon and jabon is effective in increasing the quantity of ammonifying bacteria, which represents the early improvement of soil quality and fertility in post-mining areas.   Keywords: ammonification bacteria, coal mining, pioneer plants, revegetation, soil chemical properties   ABSTRAK Penambangan batubara dengan sistem tambang terbuka (open pit mining) di Provinsi Jambi mengakibatkan degradasi kualitas fisik, kimia, dan biologi tanah secara masif.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The presence of alien plant species in High Conservation Value (HCV) areas of oil palm plantations has dual implications, posing potential threats to biodiversity while also providing ecological and economic benefits. This study aimed to inventory alien plant species occurring in HCV areas in Riau Province and identify their potential uses. The study was conducted through a reanalysis of primary vegetation inventory data collected from three HCV areas within oil palm plantations in Riau Province using a single-plot sampling method. Alien plant species were identified by referring to the Regulation of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry No. P.94/2016, the Global Invasive Species Database, and A Guide Book to Invasive Plant Species in Indonesia. Information on their ecological functions and economic values was obtained through a literature review. The results identified 14 alien plant species belonging to nine families, with Asteraceae being the most dominant family (36%). Non-forest riparian HCV areas contained the highest proportion of alien plant species (34,4%), whereas no alien species were recorded in sialang forest patches. Ten species (76,9%) were found to provide important ecological functions, including ground cover, erosion control, soil fertility enhancement, forage for livestock and wildlife, and sources of botanical pesticides. All identified species also exhibited economic potential, particularly as medicinal plants, food resources, livestock forage, botanical pesticides, and timber resources. These findings suggest that the management of alien plant species in HCV areas should adopt a risk-based adaptive approach that considers the invasiveness, ecological functions, and economic value of each species.   Keywords: alien plants, biodiversity, high conservation value, invasive plants, oil palm plantations   ABSTRAK Keberadaan tumbuhan asing pada areal Nilai Konservasi Tinggi (NKT) perkebunan kelapa sawit memiliki implikasi ganda, yaitu berpotensi mengancam keanekaragaman hayati sekaligus memberikan manfaat ekologis dan ekonomi.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Soybean (Glycine max L.) is one of the most important food crops in Indonesia and a major source of plant-based protein. However, its productivity remains relatively low, particularly on Ultisol soils, due to poor fertility and limited nutrient availability. Ecoenzyme has potential as a biostimulant and bioactivator by improving soil biological activity and enhancing nutrient uptake. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different combinations of ecoenzyme application methods and concentrations on soybean growth and yield and to determine the most effective treatment. The experiment was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Jambi, from December 2025 to February 2026 using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with one factor consisting of five treatments: no ecoenzyme (0 mL L⁻¹), 10 mL L⁻¹ soil drenching, 20 mL L⁻¹ soil drenching, 7 mL L⁻¹ soil drenching combined with 3 mL L⁻¹ foliar spray, and 14 mL L⁻¹ soil drenching combined with 6 mL L⁻¹ foliar spray. Each treatment was replicated five times. Observed variables included plant height, flowering age, number of primary branches, number of pods per plant, filled pods, empty pods, damaged seeds, 100-seed weight, seed yield per plant, and yield per hectare. Ecoenzyme treatments significantly affected plant height, number of damaged seeds, and 100-seed weight but had no significant effect on flowering age, primary branches, pod number, filled and empty pods, seed yield per plant, or yield per hectare. Soil drenching with 20 mL L⁻¹ ecoenzyme produced the highest 100-seed weight (21.27 g) and yield (3.58 t ha⁻¹), indicating that this treatment is the most effective for improving soybean productivity on Ultisol soils.   Keywords: application method, concentration, ecoenzyme, growth and yield, soybean   ABSTRAK Kedelai (Glycine max L.) merupakan salah satu komoditas pangan strategis di Indonesia yang berperan sebagai sumber protein nabati.
