Abstract

Agricultural activities involve farmer organizations that support farmers’ socioeconomic activities. Farmer economic organizations (KEPs) play a significant role in promoting community self-reliance and food security; however, in developing countries, the institutional framework for food security remains weak. This community faces challenges such as limited market access, necessitating development efforts to reach broader markets. The objective of this study is to formulate a development strategy for the KEP to support farmers’ welfare in Karawang Regency. The method used is quantitative descriptive. Informants were selected through purposive sampling, specifically the chairperson and secretary of this community. Data analysis employed quantitative descriptive analysis using a three-stage process for strategic planning formulation. The research results indicate that the strategy implemented by KEP Bina Jaya Tani is a growth-oriented strategy that optimizes its strengths and opportunities, namely: (1) Developing rice products using attractive packaging and a variety of rice types; (2) Increasing production capacity by leveraging easy access to raw materials from farmer groups; (3) Expanding the reach of premium rice products to the main rice markets in Karawang and surrounding areas; (4) Developing location-based digital marketing with attractive packaging; and (5) Integrating agricultural technology to efficiently improve product quality.

Abstract

The village of Kebonagung in Gresik Regency, East Java, is known as the largest lime-producing market in Indonesia and has highly strategic agricultural potential. This study aims to analyze the sustainability of lime farming from ecological and economic perspectives. Sampling was conducted using probability sampling with a proportionate random sampling approach, specifically 25% from institutional groups (5 respondents) and 50% from farmer groups (40 lime farmers). The ecological dimension was analyzed using the Weighted Mean Score (WMS), while the economic dimension was assessed through income and the viability of the farming operations. The results showed that, based on the WMS analysis, the ecological dimension of lime farming in Kebonagung Village was classified as highly sustainable because farmers used fertilizers and pesticides according to recommendations, were beginning19 to switch to organic fertilizers, managed waste by turning it into compost and MOL (Microbial Organic Liquid), and received support from extension workers and the government, all of which reinforced environmentally friendly practices. In terms of the economic dimension, this farming operation generates an average income of Rp. 22,504,051.54/ha with total costs of Rp. 9,661,948.43/ha and a R/C ratio of 3.32, indicating that lime farming in Kebonagung Village is viable for development. The conclusion of this study is that lime farming is sustainable from both ecological and economic perspectives. Recommendations include those farmers maintain environmentally friendly practices and proper farm management, while efforts to strengthen market access and provide support through guidance and sustainable technology should be enhanced.

Abstract

Communication plays a vital role in strengthening fisheries institutions in Indonesia. Organizations such as Fish Farming Groups (Pokdakan), Fish Processing and Marketing Groups (Poklahsar), and Fishermen's Joint Business Groups (KUB) rely on effective communication to manage, develop, and sustain their enterprises. This study employs a literature review methodology, guided by clearly formulated research questions and a systematic process of identifying, selecting, and critically evaluating relevant scholarly publications. The findings indicate that fisheries institutions function as collective organizations for fisheries stakeholders, operating under established norms and regulations that facilitate collaborative activities. To achieve their objectives, these institutions require both internal and external communication that is aligned with the principles of development communication. In the era of disruption, communication within fisheries institutions is influenced by several key factors, including the balance between centralized and participatory decision-making, the integration of top-down and bottom-up communication strategies, the use of context-appropriate communication media, collaboration through interpersonal and digital communication channels, and the interaction of individual and environmental factors in shaping behavioral change.

Abstract

The production of rice in the regency of Central Mamuju acts as a crucial factor in ensuring regional food security and is set up to become a leading producer for the country. However, the peasants face the issue of economic inequalities due to the increase in the level of variable costs and lack of availability of the arable land, thus, posing a threat to the sustainability of their profit margins. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a detailed analysis of the cost structure and to examine the economic feasibility of the irrigation rice production in the village of Polo Pangale. Quantitative descriptive methodology was used as the main method of data collection from 10 active farmers via conducting structured interviews and observations. It was revealed that the average amount of costs required per one growing period reaches the sum of IDR 85,274,000, out of which 97 percent are variable costs (production materials and wages). Even though the rice plantation needs a considerable sum of working capital, the harvesting of the paddy brings an amount of up to IDR 268,860,000, thus providing an amount of IDR 183,586,000 as net income for the farmers' households. The economic feasibility is assessed by R/C Ratio and reaches 3.152.

Abstract

Waste management remains one of Indonesia’s most pressing environmental challenges, as population growth increases waste generation and places pressure on limited institutional and financial capacities. Although community-based waste management initiatives, including waste banks, have been widely implemented, they frequently encounter structural and participatory constraints. This study examines an alternative waste-reduction model through the Sahabat Pilah Sampah Bumi Meranti (SAPA BUMI) movement, with particular attention to its strategies, challenges, and contributions to environmental justice. Using descriptive qualitative design and netnographic methods, the study drew on digital observations, interviews, and documentation of SAPA BUMI activities. The findings indicate that SAPA BUMI mobilizes social, cultural, and technical resources collectively through a membership system, centralized drop points, and non-material incentives that support sustained participation. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, including limited member commitment, dependence on the founder, and minimal institutional support. Despite these constraints, SAPA BUMI prevented 710.7 kg of waste from entering landfills for over six months and encouraged household-level behavioral changes in waste sorting, composting, and reducing single-use plastics. This study concludes that SAPA BUMI offers a conceptual model of community-based waste management centered on collective action, family education, and equitable benefit distribution, thereby advancing environmental justice in urban communities.
