Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of alkaline soaking time on the crude fiber and protein fractions of pineapple peel. The research consisted of two stages, the first stage was immersion of pineapple peel with husk ash water filtration concentration (FAAS) and different soaking times, and the second stage was about giving basic pineapple peel flour (TNKB) with different percentages in the ration. The first stage used a factorial completely randomized design consisting of FAAS concentration factors of 20%, 30%, and 40%, and immersion time factors of 0, 24, 48, and 72 hours. The second stage used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% TNKB treatments in the ration. The best reduction in fiber and crude protein fractions from alkaline soaking preparations will be given to broiler chicken feed rations. The result of immersion of 30% concentration with soaking time for 72 hours showed the best decrease for the fiber fraction. So that this processed pineapple skin flour can be given to broiler chicken feed rations. The results of the study concluded that the use of alkaline acidification of pineapple peel in rations could be used up to a level of 15% without affecting the performance of broiler chickens.

Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of adding inulin from dahlia tube extract (DTE) and papain enzyme in the feed using protein and calcium microparticles on nutrient absrorption (protein and calcium), nutrient content (protein and calcium content) meat and meat weight on broiler. A total of 200 one-day-old unsex broiler chicks with feeding of treatment 8 days old with an average body weight 137.63±12.03 g. The experiment consisted of completely randomized design with 4 treatment and 5 replice, each 10 bird. The treatment applied were P0: feed with microparticle protein and calcium, P1: P0+DTE 1.17%, P2: P0+enzim papain 0.15%, dan P3: P0+DTE 1.17%+papain enzyme 0.15%. The parameters observed were protein and calcium absrorption, meat protein and calcium content, and meat weight. The data were processed based on analysis of variance followed by Duncan's multiple area test at the 5% level. The results showed that the addition of inulin and papain enzymes in the ration containing protein and calcium microparticles had a significant effect (p<0.05) on protein and calcium absorption, protein and calcium content of meat, and weight of broiler meat. The conclusion, a mixture of inulin from 1.17% DTE and 0.15% papain enzyme (P3) in the feed using a protein source and calcium microparticles resulted in the best nutrient intake and weight of broiler meat with the highest protein and calcium content.

Abstract

Poultry as an industry was continuously growing worldwide and demands for poultry meats were markedly increasing. However, the limited use of antibiotics as treatments and as growth promoters became a serious problem due to the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Therefore, exploring other alternatives such as using feed additives like beta-glucans were widely studied and used to meet the demands of the consumers. This review focused on the different functions and effects of beta-glucans in poultry. Beta-glucans were known to have immunomodulation effects by upregulating the cytokines and other immune cells to overcome a disease. Aside from its immunomodulation effects, it can also increase the intestinal villi and crypts. Furthermore, an increase in growth performance was also observed. This evidence is promising but further research is required to properly establish the various functions of beta-glucans in poultry.

Abstract

Tick-borne pathogens of the genus Theileria and Anaplasma has been widely distributed and infect small ruminant in tropical and subtropical countries. Several species are considered highly pathogenic, while some cause subclinical infections in small ruminants. The distribution data of theileriosis and anaplasmosis in Samigaluh, Kulon Progo remain scarce and poorly understood. Therefore, further investigations are required to control this tick-borne disease. This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of theileriosis and anaplasmosis in domestic goats in Samigaluh, Kulon Progo, Western Yogyakarta. A total of 53 blood samples were collected from domestic goats. Blood sample was drawn from the jugular vein individually and kept in an EDTA tube. Thin blood smear was stained by Giemsa and observed under microscope for genus-level identification. As a result, it was found that theileriosis 12/53 (23%), anaplasmosis 25/53 (47%) and mixed infection 6/53 (11%) were detected in the present study. The conclusion of this study is that the incidence of Anaplasma sp. infection in goats is greater than Theileria sp. infection in Samigaluh, Kulon Progo.Although all domestic goats were asymptomatic, the finding of this study may shed light on the distribution of theileriosis and anaplasmosis infecting domestic goats in Samigaluh, Kulon Progo.
