Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) leads to an increase in Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), which disrupts the function of pancreatic β-cells. The dependency on medications often occurs, hence there is a need for natural remedies with antihyperglycemic properties, such as coffee. Coffee contains high levels of antioxidants like chlorogenic acid, flavonoids, and caffeine, which are exogenous antioxidants that can activate NRF-2 and increase the activity of the enzyme Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), thus acting as an antihyperglycemic agent. This study aims to determine the effect of robusta coffee on blood glucose levels in rats with DM conditions. This experimental study used a Randomized Control Pretest-Posttest Group Design. The sample in this study included 24 male Rattus norvegicus rats, aged 3 months, with a body weight of 230-250 grams, divided into 4 groups randomly after a one-week acclimation period. The DM condition was induced by administering streptozotocin at 40 mg/KgBW, followed by a pretest blood glucose level examination after 3 days of streptozotocin induction. The diabetic rats were then given robusta coffee once a day for a period of 14 days. On the 15th day, a posttest blood glucose level examination was conducted. The results showed that the control group (KN) had no significant difference (p=0.530), while the treatment groups KP (p=0.003), KK1 (p=0.013), and KK2 (p=0.000) showed significant differences (p<0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the administration of robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) can reduce blood glucose levels in rats with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Anemia screening conducted by Puskesmas Kendal in February 2023 showed an anemia prevalence of 50%. The results were obtained from 716 students in grades VII and X, with a description of 135 mild anemia, 153 moderate anemia, and 12 severe anemia. Screening results at SMA 1 Kendal 62.2% of adolescent girls showed low hemoglobin levels (anemia). This is thought to be due to a lack of understanding of the information obtained from health promotion by local health workers or other media that affects the lifestyle and diet of adolescents in meeting their daily needs. This study aims to determine the effect of accordion and pop-up books on adolescents' knowledge about anemia prevention. This study used the quasi-experiment method with a pretest-posttest design with a control group in two groups. Sampling was done using the purposive sampling technique, and the total sample was 112 adolescents. Data analysis was done using the Wilcoxon test and the Mann-Whitney test. The average value of knowledge before and after being given knowledge about anemia prevention with accordion book media is 75.00 increasing to 95.00, while pop-up book media is 70.00 increasing to 95.00. The results showed an effect of accordion book educational media on knowledge of preventing anemia in adolescents, as evidenced by a p-value of 0.000. There is an effect of pop-up book educational media on anemia prevention knowledge in adolescents, as evidenced by a p-value of 0.000. The most effective media for increasing adolescents' knowledge about anemia is a pop-up book, with a difference value of 25. The conclusion is that accordion books and pop-up book media have an effect on increasing adolescents’ knowledge about anemia prevention, and pop-up book educational media is more effective.

Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension among people aged ≥18 years is 34.1%, with a prevalence of 36.9% in women and 31.3% in men. East Java Province ranks sixth with a hypertension prevalence of 36.32%, while the number of hypertension patients in Jember Regency, according to data from the Jember Health Office in 2023, is 198,562 people, and the number of hypertension patients at the Jenggawah Health Center is 6,461 people. The aim of the study is to determine the effect of giving SGH Tefa Polije Melon Juice combined with Lime on Hypertension. The research method used is a Quasi-Experiment with a Pretest Posttest Non-Equivalent Control Group approach with a sample size of 30 people, and the variable in this study is blood pressure. The results of data testing with the Mann Whitney test between the systolic and diastolic blood pressure of the control group and the treatment group showed p-values of 0,621 and 0,952 (p>0,005), indicating no significant difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the groups before the intervention. This shows that the study can proceed to the stage of giving the treatment with melon juice combined with lime. There was a difference in the average blood pressure between the control group and the treatment group after the intervention in systolic pressure (p=0,004) and diastolic pressure (p=0,001). Systolic (p=0,003) and diastolic (p=0,002) pressures in the treatment group showed significant differences before and after the intervention. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is an effect of giving melon juice combined with lime on hypertension, and there is no significant difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the groups before the intervention. For future research, it is expected to measure the respondents' dietary intake parameters.

Abstract

Fishermen's lack of awareness regarding the use of ear protection equipment, and prolonged exposure that exceeds working time, as well as the danger of noise intensity exceeding the threshold value originating from fishing boat engines, can have an impact on fishermen's physiological, psychological and communication disorders. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between noise intensity, age, length of service, length of exposure and use of ear protective equipment (APT) with non-auditory disturbances experienced by fishermen in Bogak Village, Batubara Regency. The research method uses quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study was 105 people. The sampling technique used simple random sampling with the lemeshow formula, so the research sample consisted of 81 respondents. The research instrument uses a questionnaire and a sound level meter (SLM) to measure noise intensity. Data analysis used the chi square test, but if it did not meet the requirements, the Fisher Exact test was used. The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between noise intensity, age and years of work with non-auditory disorders. Noise intensity has a p value of 0.001, age has a p value of 0.002, and years of service has a p value of 0.009. Duration of exposure and use of ear protective equipment (APT) could not be subjected to bivariate analysis because the data were homogeneous. The research conclusion shows that there is a relationship between noise intensity, age and years of work with non-hearing disorders in fishermen in Bogak Village, Batubara Regency. Suggestions for future researchers to conduct research with other related variables and provide education to fishermen about the dangers of noise intensity that exceeds the threshold value for fishermen's health and the importance of using ear protection when working.

Abstract

Antenatal depression has a significant impact on the well-being of both mothers and children. It can lead to adverse outcomes such as spontaneous miscarriage, hypertensive disorders, antepartum hemorrhage, impaired fetal growth, preterm birth, low birth weight, low APGAR scores, intensive newborn care, and postpartum and parental depression, linked to risky behaviors like substance abuse (e.g., alcoholism and smoking), reduced utilization of healthcare services, poor appetite, and thoughts of self-harm. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between poor obstetric history, negative life events, and the risk of antenatal depression. This research employed a case-control study design and involved 58 pregnant women (29 case, 29 control) attending antenatal check-ups at the Jagir and Tanah Kali Kedinding health centers in Surabaya, who met the inclusion criteria. Poor obstetric history and negative life events were considered as independent variables and were assessed using a general questionnaire. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) with a cutoff value of 10 was used to determine the dependent variable, which was antenatal depression. However, the statistical analysis indicated that neither poor obstetric history nor negative life events significantly affected the risk of antenatal depression, with p-values of 0.092 and 0.142 respectively. The study suggests the need for further research with larger samples and different research designs to better understand the risk factors for antenatal depression. Moreover, it is recommended that maternal healthcare facilities routinely and periodically implement antenatal depression screening.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is a life-threatening gynecological problem in women worldwide. Chemotherapy is one of the treatment options for cervical cancer patients. The side effects of chemotherapy can cause psychological discomfort which has an impact on quality of life. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between psychological well-being and quality of life of cervical cancer patients with chemotherapy. The cross-sectional study approach method was conducted on 89 cervical cancer patients with chemotherapy. Univariate analysis was used to describe the research variables presented in frequency and percentage tables. The chi square test was used to correlate the variables of psychological well-being and quality of life. Psychological well-being was assessed with Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale (RPWB) questionnaire with 28 questions. The quality of life of research respondents was assessed with The EORTC Core Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ-C30) questionnaire with 30 questions. The results showed that 41 respondents (75.55%) had good psychological well-being and good quality of life while 16 respondents (47.06%) had poor psychological well-being and poor quality of life. The results of the chi square test obtained a p-value of 0.036 which means p < α (α = 0.05). These results indicate that psychological well-being has a significant relationship with quality of life in cervical cancer patients with chemotherapy. The conclusion shows that cancer has a negative impact on the psychological well-being and quality of life of cancer patients. The psychological well-being status and quality of life of cervical cancer patients need to be assessed to reduce side effects during chemotherapy.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of a toddler's body that does not reach the proper length or height based on standards for his age.Prevalence data in East Java in 2022 alone is 19.2%. Meanwhile, the incidence of stunting in Bondowoso itself reaches 32% which shows a higher rate than the Indonesian average. The direct factor for stunting is food intake that does not meet the needs of toddlers. The occurrence of these factors is based on the basic causes or roots of the problem, namely education, knowledge and family income. The factors that cause stunting, namely education, knowledge and income, have been shown to have an influence on the incidence of stunting in toddlers. The study was conducted in Bondowoso Regency. The type of research was observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects in the study consisted of 63 stunted toddlers. Subjects were obtained using the simple random sampling method. Data collection on the characteristics of mothers of toddlers including education, income, and knowledge was carried out by interview, while the diet of stunted toddlers used the SQ-FFQ form. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately. Bivariate analysis used the chi-square test. The results of the chi-square test showed that there was no significant relationship between maternal education level, maternal knowledge, and family income with the dietary patterns of stunted toddlers (p-value ≥ 0.05). The results of this study indicate that there is no significant relationship between mother's education level, mother's knowledge and family income with eating patterns in toddlers stunting.

Abstract

The use of Electronic Medical Record by hospitals is important. As the basic regulations in article 3 of Minister of Health Regulation No. 82 of 2013 concerning SIMRS require Electronic Medical Record to be implemented in each hospital. Electronic Medical Records or abbreviated as EMR to create an optimal and excellent service system. The purpose of this research is to analyze hospital readiness in implementing RME in terms of Human Resources at RSU Anwar Medika Sidoarjo. This research is qualitative-descriptive research, to obtain results the researcher used an empirical approach. The research location is located at RSU Anwar Medika, Sidoarjo, East Java Province in 2024. The research results show that the use of Electronic Medical Record is understood by employees as a replacement for manual medical records in digital form, this is to simplify, speed up, optimize excellent service and reduce paper use. So that the RSU's human resources can be seen from the operation of the EMR system starting from the first health service (queuing, registration, giving examination numbers and codes) to internal services (diagnostic records, medical consultations, giving prescriptions) carried out by RSU Anwar Medika based on the RME system. So that, the existing human resources are included in the category of being able to carry out processing of "documents containing patient identity data, examinations, treatment, actions" with an RME-based health service system.
