Abstract

ABSTRACT Reducing maternal and neonatal mortality still have many challenges. One of the Ministry of Health’s strategy is to collaborate with universities through the assitance of pregnant women by students. This study aims to determine the effect of students’mentoring on increasing knowledge of pregnant women on dangerous sign of pregnancy, postnatal and newborns. The study is an operational research with quasi-experimental design that was conducted in seven districts/cities in Indonesia. Two Puskesmas were chosen for each district and it categorized as intervention and control group with the number of samples was 280 pregnant women for each group. The results of pre-test showed no difference in the level of knowledge about the dangerous signs of pregnancy, postnatal and newborns between the intervention and control groups, but after mentoring there were significant differences (p-value <0.001). The logistic regression results show that mothers in the intervention group had a 33% higher chance of having good knowledge about the dangerous signs of pregnancy; 92% higher knowledge about dangerous signs of postnatal and 78% higher knowledge about dangerous signs of newborns compared to control group. Therefore, student mentoring can be used as an alternative method of delivering information to increase the knowledge of pregnant women. Keywords: Mentoring, pregnant women, students, danger sign of pregnancy, postnatal, newborn ABSTRAK Upaya penurunan angka kematian ibu dan bayi baru lahir masih memiliki banyak tantangan. Abstract

The use of contraception can prevent the risk of death for both mother and infant due to unplanned pregnancy. This study measures adult women's knowledge, attitudes, and behavior in contraceptive use in coastal slums. Knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors are supported by supporting factors and driving factors at the mother's household level. This research used a multilevel analytical with a cross-sectional approach. Adult women (individual levels) and heads of the family (family level) are subject in this study, separated into two groups in the individual and household unit. The total sample in this study is 734 samples and originated from 374 samples in individual and household units. The results of this study indicate that maternal knowledge about contraception and mother's education has a positive effect on contraceptive use, as well as husband's support and economic status. Women with an elementary and junior high school education tend not to use contraception 3-5 times more than women with higher education. The family variation between environments binds 26% of the results to the existing multilevel analysis so that contributions made by intervening risk factors at the family level will increase participation in individual contraceptive use by 26%. Supporting factors for mothers in using contraception influence the support of their husbands and family support. Elementary and junior high school education still dominantly influence contraception in adult women in first and second models. Women with primary and junior secondary education tend not to use contraception three to five times more than the group of women who have higher education. Contributions that can be made by intervening risk factors at the family level will increase the participation of contraceptive use in individuals by twenty-six percent. Abstract

The tobacco industry continues to promote tobacco through cigarette displays, especially in areas easily accessible to youth and school students. One of the tactics that cigarette companies keep using is cigarette displays around the school area. This study aimed to determine the impact of cigarette displays around schools on cigarette sales in the school area. This study was conducted on cigarette sellers around schools in Medan City. This study was conducted on 18 cigarette sellers for 14 days. The interventions given were cigarette displays covered with cloth, cigarette displays hidden, and cigarette displays without intervention. Data analysis was conducted using an ANOVA test using JASP version 17.The results showed a difference in total sales between cloth-covered displays, hidden treatments, and no intervention (ANOVA test p = 0.015). The results showed a difference in sales profit between cloth-covered displays, hidden treatments, and no intervention (ANOVA test p = 0.004). The provision of interventions on cigarette displays treated as hidden reduced average cigarette sales in cigarette stores. Intervention in cigarette displays covered with cloth reduced average cigarette sales in cigarette stores. The Medan City Government should regulate cigarette displays at cigarette stores around the school area to reduce cigarette consumption among students. The Education Office and schools should collaborate with cigarette sellers around the school area to stop the display of cigarettes and not sell cigarettes to students. Abstract

Fishermen's lack of awareness regarding the use of ear protection equipment, and prolonged exposure that exceeds working time, as well as the danger of noise intensity exceeding the threshold value originating from fishing boat engines, can have an impact on fishermen's physiological, psychological and communication disorders. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between noise intensity, age, length of service, length of exposure and use of ear protective equipment (APT) with non-auditory disturbances experienced by fishermen in Bogak Village, Batubara Regency. The research method uses quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study was 105 people. The sampling technique used simple random sampling with the lemeshow formula, so the research sample consisted of 81 respondents. The research instrument uses a questionnaire and a sound level meter (SLM) to measure noise intensity. Data analysis used the chi square test, but if it did not meet the requirements, the Fisher Exact test was used. The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between noise intensity, age and years of work with non-auditory disorders. Noise intensity has a p value of 0.001, age has a p value of 0.002, and years of service has a p value of 0.009. Duration of exposure and use of ear protective equipment (APT) could not be subjected to bivariate analysis because the data were homogeneous. The research conclusion shows that there is a relationship between noise intensity, age and years of work with non-hearing disorders in fishermen in Bogak Village, Batubara Regency. Suggestions for future researchers to conduct research with other related variables and provide education to fishermen about the dangers of noise intensity that exceeds the threshold value for fishermen's health and the importance of using ear protection when working.

Abstract

Judges are pivotal in issuing impartial decisions that advocate for women, even when they function as primary providers. This study examines the judicial sensitivity towards women as primary breadwinners within families in Padang Lawas Utara. Employing a sociological approach, the research explores the realities among the indigenous people of Padang Lawas Utara. Subsequently, it conducts a comprehensive review of five decisions from the Religious Court of Padang Sidimpuan, falling under the jurisdiction of Padang Lawas Utara. The article reveals that the judges fail to consider the wife’s familial role, especially the role of the wife as the breadwinner. They concentrate solely on the male’s capabilities and rely on evidence of the husband’s income, which proves challenging to validate. Despite the husband’s ownership of assets, including land, houses, rice fields, vehicles, and others, the judge refrains from exercising the ex officio rights to provide the wife's māḍiyah (previous alimony). This underscores the inadequacy of the judge’s sensitivity in establishing the fulfillment and protection of women’s rights, particularly in the context of post-divorce scenarios.
