Abstract

The Central Java Provincial Health Office (2024) stated that Banjarnegara Regency has the highest stunting prevalence in Central Java, at 20.8%. Meanwhile, based on Posyandu monitoring results in 2023, Wanayasa Subdistrict in Banjarnegara reported the highest number of stunted toddlers, with 214 children. The condition of stunted toddlers cannot be separated from the role of mothers in fulfilling their nutritional needs. This study aims to analyze maternal decision-making regarding toddler nutrition. The theory employed is Dual Process Theory (DPT), which distinguishes between two systems of thinking: System 1 (fast, intuitive, and emotional) and System 2 (slow, rational, and reflective). Additionally, the Wilbur Schramm Communication Model is employed to examine the processes of encoding and decoding, shared experience fields, and feedback in interpersonal communication. This study employed a descriptive-qualitative method, conducting in-depth interviews with 13 mothers of toddlers and 2 supporting informants. The results showed that the majority of mothers make decisions based on System 1 emotional responses or spontaneous actions when their child has difficulty eating. However, family support and empathetic communication from health workers, which are simple messages, relevance to the mother's experience, and precise feedback, can shift decisions to System 2. Thus, mothers tend to be more reflective, analytical, and consistent in developing nutritional strategies for their toddlers. In fact, maternal decision-making in Wanayasa District is still dominated by System 1. Still, it has the potential to improve towards System 2 through educational interventions, social support, and effective interpersonal communication strategies according to Schramm's model.

Abstract

Digital transformation has reshaped media ecosystems by positioning YouTube as a dominant platform for producing, distributing, and consuming content within the logic of algorithmic capitalism. However, studies examining how political content creators negotiate power relations within this digital environment, particularly in Indonesia, remain limited. Addressing this gap, this research aims to analyze the political economy practices embedded in Deddy Corbuzier’s “Close The Door” YouTube program using Vincent Mosco’s framework of commodification, spatialization, and structuration. Employing an interpretive qualitative approach, the study investigates ten episodes featuring national political actors published in 2022-2025. Data were collected through digital documentation and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model. The findings reveal that political discussions on the channel are transformed into economic commodities through monetization systems, algorithmic visibility, and high audience engagement. Spatialization emerges through YouTube’s recommendation infrastructure and global data networks that link local content creators with multinational corporate interests such as Google. Structuration is reflected in the reciprocal yet asymmetrical interactions among creators, platforms, audiences, and political elites, collectively shaping symbolic power in the digital sphere. The study concludes that YouTube functions not only as an alternative media space but also as a hegemonic arena governed by digital capitalist logics. These results provide theoretical contributions to the political economy of media in Indonesia and offer practical insights into how algorithmic systems increasingly shape public discourse and redistribute power away from traditional media institutions.

Abstract

This research examines how contrasting visual design styles influence communication effectiveness in digital advertising environments. Addressing the growing reliance on visual storytelling within platform-driven branding, the study investigates how design elements shape clarity, emotional resonance, and brand expression. Two lifestyle brands, The Green Party and MINISO, were selected as visual references representing minimalist and maximalist approaches. Guided by Gestalt theory, the analysis focuses on proximity, continuity, and figure-ground relationships. Qualitative insights were obtained through semi-structured interviews with six experienced Malaysian designers based in Klang Valley and Kuala Lumpur. Findings indicate that minimalist layouts enhance clarity and composure, while maximalist visuals are perceived as expressive and attention-grabbing, resonating strongly with younger audiences, particularly Generation Z. Designers emphasise that effectiveness depends on alignment between design style, brand identity, and audience preference. The study concludes that minimalism supports readability, whereas maximalism strengthens emotional resonance and brand recall, extending Gestalt applications theoretically and informing platform-appropriate visual strategies practically.

Abstract

The 2023–2024 eruption of Mount Marapi posed significant challenges for community-level crisis communication, particularly in information dissemination, interagency coordination, and community response management. This study analyzes how the Village Head of Sungai Pua managed crisis communication during the pre-disaster, disaster, and post-disaster phases and identifies communication barriers affecting community preparedness and response. A qualitative case study within a constructivist paradigm applied the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation and analyzed using pattern matching, explanation building, and time-series analysis. Findings show that the Village Head implemented communication strategies through official letters, WhatsApp groups, mosque loudspeakers, and social media. However, communication effectiveness remained constrained by low public risk perception before the disaster, delayed interagency coordination during the disaster, and unverified information afterward. The Village Head also played a crucial role in fostering public trust, coordinating emergency responses, and supporting post-disaster recovery. Effective crisis communication depends on communication channels and local leaders’ ability to raise risk awareness, strengthen coordination, and manage information continuously. These findings enrich SCCT research on local leadership and provide practical guidance for strengthening community-based disaster communication systems.

Abstract

This paper analyses netizens’ reactions to a Tempodotco YouTube video entitled “The Reasons Prabowo Sacked Several Ministers in the Red and White Cabinet” as part of the Bocor Alus Politik program. The research focuses on sentiment analysis, toxicity, polarity distribution, and the dynamics of daily comment interactions. Data were collected using Communalytic.org from the video’s comments section, with an initial total of 2,497 comments during the observation period from 13 September to 12 October 2025. Following data cleaning and screening, the comments were processed based on language compatibility and the requirements of the analytical models. Sentiment analysis was conducted using VADER and TextBlob, whilst toxicity analysis utilized the Perspective API/Civility Analyzer. The research results indicate a predominance of neutral sentiment across all analyzed language subsets, namely 65.17% for VADER English, 89.47% for VADER Portuguese, 83.15% for TextBlob English, 100% for TextBlob French, and 98.25% for TextBlob German. Toxicity analysis of the 89 eligible comments revealed a low average toxicity score of 0.00781, with a maximum of 0.13136. These findings show that digital political discourse on YouTube does not always lead to extreme polarisation, but can also exhibit patterns of cautious, moderate, and low-toxicity reception. This study confirms that netizens act as an active audience, interpreting political messages through support, negotiation, criticism, and digital expression within YouTube’s public sphere.

Abstract

The rise of digital platforms has transformed altruistic action into measurable, scalable online participation, yet studies of how digital altruism is structurally formed within environmental sociopreneurship remain limited, particularly from a behavioral stakeholder perspective. This study aims to analyze how Motivation, Opportunity, and Ability (MoA) interact to shape sustained multistakeholder digital altruism on LindungiHutan.com. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive case study within a constructivist paradigm, using in-depth interviews with ten key organizational and grassroots informants, website observation, and digital documentation. Data were analyzed through iterative coding and pattern matching guided by the MoA framework and stakeholder theory. The findings reveal that digital altruism on LindungiHutan.com emerges from the alignment of moral–environmental motivations, platform-based participation opportunities, and technological and organizational capabilities. The platform successfully integrates conservation farmers, volunteers, campaign initiators, donors, corporate partners, and institutions into a measurable digital participation ecosystem. Digital participation is not driven by isolated individual generosity, but by the orchestration of MoA within a multistakeholder system supported by trust, strategic communication, and platform design. Theoretically, this study strengthens MoA as a relevant behavioral framework for explaining digital altruism in environmental sociopreneurship. In practice, the findings provide strategic guidance for social platforms and organizations on designing participatory infrastructures that foster sustained prosocial engagement and environmental impact.

Abstract

Existing scholarship on health crisis governance often centers on urban infrastructures, overlooking the distinct communication dynamics of peripheral regions. This study investigates how COVID-19 health directives were organized, negotiated, and enacted within the geographically isolated community of Ulu Ogan, Indonesia. Adopting a qualitative approach, we analyzed in-depth interviews with six participants, ranging from district officials to health workers and community members. The findings reveal that pandemic communication did not function as a linear bureaucratic cascade but emerged as a process of “vernacular bureaucracy.” In this system, meso-level actors such as village heads and frontline health workersacted as discretionary intermediaries who translated rigid state protocols into local cultural logics. These actors navigated structural scarcity by reframing biomedical directives through indigenous practices of vigilance (Getage) and agrarian rhythms to maintain legitimacy. We argue that in geographically isolated settings, effective health governance relies less on command-and-control structures and more on the adaptive capacity of local institutions to hybridize formal mandates with community values. This study contributes to global health communication theory by conceptualizing vernacular bureaucracy as a critical mechanism for bridging administrative distance in the Global South.

Abstract

This study examines content creator-based digital marketing communication strategies implemented by Hiskara Studio through Instagram and short-form video content to build consumer trust and engagement in architecture and interior design services. This industry represents a professional service sector that is technical, economically valuable, and strongly influenced by aesthetic perception, portfolio credibility, and the ability to translate consumer spatial needs into design solutions. These characteristics create communication challenges because consumers evaluate not only final design outputs, but also work processes, service transparency, and provider reliability. This research uses a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through systematic observation of the Instagram account @hiskara_studio, digital documentation, and thematic mapping of content related to portfolio presentation, design education, spatial visualization, and audience interaction. Data were analyzed using NVivo-assisted thematic analysis to identify visual communication patterns, content creator roles, trust formation, and consumer engagement. The findings show that Instagram functions as a visual showcase emphasizing design portfolios, professional identity, and brand aesthetics, while short-form videos expand reach through design process narratives and accessible spatial explanations. Content creators act as communication mediators who transform technical architectural messages into personal, informative, and relevant visual narratives. This study contributes to digital marketing communication scholarship by extending discussion from consumer goods sectors to architecture and interior design as trust-intensive professional services, and by offering practical directions for transparent and interactive platform-based communication.

Abstract

The tragic death of a student at SMP Islam Athirah Makassar in 2023 became a moral crisis that shook the community, not only threatening the school's legitimacy but also damaging the reputation of Kalla Group as the parent company. This crisis, involving the loss of life, attracted significant public attention and created a significant emotional impact, requiring a swift and organised response to mitigate reputational damage. This study aims to analyse the application of crisis communication management strategies through the principles of ‘one door, one voice’ and minimal public interaction in managing attribution of responsibility and protecting corporate reputation. This study uses a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation of two key informants in the Kalla Group's Corporate Communication and Sustainability Department and analysed using grounded theory-based thematic analysis. The main findings of this study include the escalation of communication governance to the holding level, narrative control to prevent the amplification of secondary crises, and the application of measured empathy and strategic silence in reputation recovery. The significance of these findings is that they enrich the literature on corporate crisis communication by introducing crisis communication as an organisational governance practice that involves narrative control, and provide practical implications for multi-unit organisations in dealing with high-reputation-risk humanitarian crises.

Abstract

This article examines how Indonesian diasporic mommy vloggers produce culinary locality on social media. Indonesian women entering transnational marriages and living in their husbands' countries are increasingly using YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok to document their daily cooking, ingredient foraging, and family mealtimes. Drawing on Arjun Appadurai's (1996) conceptualization of locality as a phenomenological quality produced through everyday practices, and sensory anthropology (Seremetakis, 1994; Sutton, 2001, 2010; Stoller, 1989, 1997; Manalansan, 2006; Marks, 2000), this study argues that the culinary practices of Indonesian diasporic mommy vloggers constitute a specific form of sensory locality, a locality whose primary ingredients are taste, smell, touch, and bodily memory, and whose primary infrastructure is the digitally mediated kitchen. Using digital ethnography (Pink et al., 2016) with seven Indonesian diasporic mommy vloggers, combining non-participant observation of social media content with in-depth interviews, this study finds that culinary locality is produced through a series of everyday practices: growing Indonesian ingredients in a foreign land, cooking regional dishes inherited from mothers and grandmothers, and serving them in multicultural households. These practices reproduce the sensory presence of Indonesia in an environment that is structurally unsupportive of it, positioning diasporic mothers not as passive recipients of cultural transmission but as active producers of locality. This research contributes to media and culture studies by extending Appadurai's theory of locality to the realm of digital media, by demonstrating how social media operates as a sensory infrastructure to produce a sense of transnational belonging, and by highlighting the gendered labor through which culinary locality is maintained in the diaspora.
