Abstract

The ability to understand mathematical concepts is one of the abilities that must be possessed by students. A concept if understood properly and correctly will lead students to a meaningful learning process. Applying the inquiry learning model to the learning process is one way to improve the ability to understand mathematical concepts. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is a significant difference in the increase in the ability to understand mathematical concepts between students who receive the inquiry learning model and the conventional learning model. The research method used is quasi-experimental. The population in this study were students of class X SMA Negeri 22 Garut. The samples used were class X MIPA-3 as the experimental class and X MIPA-4 as the control class with a total of 34 students in each class. The sampling technique uses cluster sampling. The instrument used was a written test in the form of an essay. Data collection techniques using tests, observation, and documentation. Testing the hypothesis with a non-parametric test (Mann Whitney test). The results of this study indicate that there is a significant difference in increasing the ability to understand mathematical concepts between students who use the inquiry learning model and conventional learning models.

Abstract

In learning mathematics, teachers are faced with different mathematical abilities, characters and mental skills of students. Executive functioning skills are a combination of mental skills needed by individuals to adapt and plan to achieve goals in an action. Differences in students' abilities and skills will certainly affect the achievement of students' mathematical representation abilities. The ability of mathematical representation is the ability of students to describe a mathematical concept, and to communicate it, either in the form of images, mathematical expressions, or in the form of words. This study aims to analyze the effect of executive functioning on mathematical representation abilities. The research was carried out at SMAN 5 Garut, with the subject of class XI MIPA 1 for the 2022-2023 academic year. The research method used is comparative-associative explanatory research. From the results of the study it was revealed that executive functioning abilities: Self-Control, Self-Monitor/Self-Evaluation, Task Initiative, Working and Memory Attention, Emotional Control, Planning and Time Management and Organization have no significant effect on the ability of mathematical representation.

Abstract

The background of this research is the results of the repetition of mathematics lessons in class III students at SDN 4 Cigedug at the end of semester 1 of the 2021/2022 academic year. Only 55% of grade III students whose grades exceed the KKM. The lack of ability to understand the concept of multiplication and division in students is one of the factors in obtaining these scores. The use of instructional media is expected to be able to improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts, one of which is the kaleci track. Trek kaleci is a mix between Trek (racing track) and kaleci (marbles). Trek Kaleci is also an acronym for Math Practice using Kaleci. The purpose of this study was to analyze the improvement of students' numeracy concept skills through the use of the Kalali Track learning media on multiplication and division of simple numbers. This study uses a qualitative method, with research instruments in the form of essay tests and interviews with an orientation towards improving students' numeracy concept abilities and the use of Trek Kaleci media. Grade III students at SDN 4 Cigedug are the sample used in this study. Based on the results of the analysis, the average value of students' numeracy concept ability was 9.2 out of 12, with a percentage of 76%. Then based on the results of the questionnaire analysis interviewing students, a positive response was received with a percentage of 91% of students enjoying learning mathematics using Trek Kaleci.

Abstract

The mathematical communication abilities of students play a significant role in understanding and conveying mathematical concepts. This study aims to compare the implementation of three instructional models, namely the Role-Playing Model with GeoGebra assistance, the Role-Playing Model, and the Direct Instruction Model, on students' mathematical communication abilities in solving PISA-equivalent problems. The research method employed is quantitative with a Quasi-Experimental design using the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population of this study consists of eighth-grade students at MTs Nurul Huda. Sample selection was conducted using purposive sampling. The sample consists of three classes: VIII B (experimental class 1) with 24 students, VIII C (experimental class 2) with 23 students, and VIII A (control class) with 20 students. The research instruments comprise pretest and posttest tests to measure students' mathematical communication abilities in solving PISA-equivalent problems. Additionally, observation sheets for teachers and students were used as non-test instruments. Quantitative data analysis was performed using parametric statistics for the balance test, namely a one-way ANOVA with the prerequisite of normality and homogeneity tests. The results of the analysis indicate that the Role-Playing Model with GeoGebra assistance is superior in improving students' mathematical communication abilities in solving PISA-equivalent problems compared to the other two instructional models.
