Abstract

Students’ literacy culture remains largely instrumental, with reading activities primarily driven by academic assignments rather than intrinsic motivation, resulting in suboptimal use of scholarly resources for learning and personal development. This condition contributes to low-quality scientific writing and weak reference management skills. Therefore, a structured intervention through technology-based training is necessary to enhance academic literacy. This program aims to improve students’ ability to organize, cite, and share academic references effectively using reference management software. The method employed includes interactive lectures combined with question-and-answer sessions, dissemination of instructional posters, and provision of recorded learning materials via digital platforms. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test to assess participants’ competency improvement. The results indicate a significant increase in students’ understanding and skills in using reference management tools, as reflected by the improvement in scores from a mean pre-test of 62.72 to a post-test of 78.5. Furthermore, participants demonstrated greater confidence in producing structured and academically appropriate scientific writing. The program also fostered a shift in literacy perception from obligation to academic necessity. In conclusion, this training is effective in enhancing students’ academic literacy and reference management skills.

Abstract

The dynamics of urban development and coastal community activities have precipitated a progressive escalation of environmental pressures, manifested through aquatic pollution originating from the direct discharge of domestic and industrial effluents into water bodies, solid waste accumulation, riverine runoff, and the increasing volume of plastic waste alongside heavy metal contaminants such as mercury and lead. Environmental literacy among senior high school students plays a significant role in shaping conceptual understanding, attitudes, and behavioral responses toward pollution-related issues, particularly in coastal regions. Community Service Activities (PKM) grounded in environmental education constitute one of the strategic approaches for enhancing students' comprehension of coastal ecosystem pollution literacy, especially among eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 7, who are at a critical stage of cognitive development in constructing ecological awareness. The PKM activity was conducted on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 08:00 WIT until completion, held in the teachers' meeting room of SMA Negeri 7, Ambon. The target participants of this PKM activity were eleventh-grade students, totaling 60 individuals. The activity comprised three sequential phases, commencing with preparation, followed by implementation, and concluding with activity evaluation. The findings of this activity indicate that the environmental literacy of students at SMA Negeri 7 Ambon demonstrated notable improvement regarding coastal ecosystem pollution, accompanied by a heightened awareness to preserve and conserve the environment, as evidenced by their active engagement in discussions and satisfactory post-test outcomes. Furthermore, this activity fostered productive synergy between higher education institutions and senior high schools in cultivating students' intellectual capacities, who represent the future generation of the nation.

Abstract

Elementary school is the formal education children receive after their family environment. At this age, children begin to develop their self-concept and it influences how they socialize with others. In the school environment, children begin to socialize through friendships with peers. Within these friendships, potential conflicts arise, and the resulting behavior can lead to bullying. Bullying cases occurring in elementary schools require attention because the psychological impacts can disrupt optimal individual development, even into adulthood. Therefore, an intervention program is needed to address this issue. This activity aims to improve elementary school students' understanding of bullying and prevent such behavior. The activity involved 31 students in grades 1-3 at SDIT Global Prima, Bekasi. The activity took the form of psychoeducation through mini-dramas and discussions related to bullying. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test results showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores regarding understanding of bullying (Z = -3.286, p < 0.05). The mean rank value indicated that 19 participants experienced an increase in their pretest-posttest scores. This means that most participants showed an increase in their scores after the intervention. An effect size of 0.59 indicates that the intervention had a moderate impact. This indicates that the mini-drama-based psychoeducational activity had a significant practical impact on improving students' understanding of bullying. Overall, these findings support the effectiveness of the intervention in preventing bullying by strengthening students' understanding.

Abstract

Orchids are popular ornamental plants, and their flowers are highly prized for their beauty and variety. Indonesia boasts a rich diversity of orchid species, particularly epiphytic orchids that thrive in forest trees, from Sumatra to Papua. However, orchids are threatened with extinction due to habitat loss and theft. Ex situ conservation efforts using in vitro culture techniques can be undertaken to safeguard the existence of orchid species. The training was conducted to provide insight to the general public and the Planterum orchid hobbyist community regarding orchid conservation and in vitro orchid cultivation. The training was held at the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Jenderal Soedirman University in August 2025. A total of 20 participants participated in a series of activities, including sessions on orchid conservation and the basic concepts of in vitro culture techniques, as well as practical sessions on making culture media and planting orchid seeds in vitro. This activity successfully increased the understanding of participants who were previously unfamiliar with in vitro culture techniques to understand the basic concepts and stages of in vitro culture practices as an orchid cultivation technique. 75% of participants were able to recount the composition of the media used to culture orchid seeds and explain the stages of in vitro orchid culture. Activities to introduce the latest technological innovations to the community are useful for improving the quality of the cultivation process and the resulting products.

Abstract

The development of additive manufacturing technology, particularly 3D printing, requires vocational schools to adapt to the demands of the digital-based industry. However, the utilization of this technology at the vocational high school (SMK) level remains limited due to insufficient teacher competencies and supporting facilities. SMK Kristen Nusantara Kudus, as a partner institution, requires capacity strengthening of productive subject teachers to enable them to integrate 3D printing into the learning process. Therefore, a structured and practical training program is necessary. This community service activity aims to enhance the competence of productive teachers in understanding and operating 3D printing technology and integrating it as a learning medium as well as a support for entrepreneurship based on additive manufacturing. The implementation method consists of initiation and preparation stages, socialization, training, mentoring, and sustainability stages. The materials include an introduction to additive manufacturing concepts, the slicing process, and hands-on practice in printing simple objects using a 3D printer. The implementation results indicate an improvement in teachers’ understanding of the basic concepts of additive manufacturing and the 3D printing workflow, from design to final product. Participants’ enthusiasm was reflected in their active engagement during discussions and hands-on practice sessions. Teachers also began identifying potential integration of 3D printing into productive subjects and exploring opportunities for developing creative products aligned with school-based entrepreneurship initiatives. This program strengthens the school’s readiness to adopt digital-based learning technologies. The effectiveness of the 3D printing training in improving teacher competence and supporting the integration of additive manufacturing technology in vocational schools is evidenced by questionnaire results

Abstract

Digital transformation in the education sector has become a crucial factor in improving the efficiency of facilities and infrastructure management. This community service activity aims to optimize workshop inventory management at SMK Lemuria Kudus through the implementation of a web-based inventory system. Prior to the program, inventory management was conducted manually, resulting in unstructured data, difficulties in tracking equipment locations, and inefficiencies in borrowing and returning processes. The method used in this activity was a participatory problem-solving approach consisting of five stages: problem identification, system design and development, socialization, training, as well as evaluation and follow-up. The developed system includes features for equipment data management, stock quantity tracking, equipment location recording, and borrowing management. The results indicate improvements in efficiency, data accuracy, and ease of access to information. In addition, the partners were able to operate the system independently with a high level of understanding. Therefore, the implementation of a web-based digital system has proven to enhance the effectiveness of workshop inventory management and support the improvement of learning quality in vocational education.

Abstract

This Community Service Program was conducted at Gang Hijau Swakarya Hydroponic Garden, Meruya Selatan Urban Village, Kembangan District, West Jakarta, with the aim of improving energy independence and urban agricultural productivity through the application of renewable energy technology and environmentally based crop protection systems. The activity began with a field observation to identify the main problems faced by the partner, namely a damaged solar power system and an open garden area without adequate protection from pests and dust. As a solution, the solar panel system was repaired and upgraded from six non-functional 100 Wp modules to eight 100 Wp modules, accompanied by the replacement of the panel box and the installation of two 12.8 V 100 Ah LiFePO₄ batteries connected in parallel to increase energy storage capacity. In addition, a 2 m × 11 m greenhouse covered with insect netting was constructed to maintain stable plant growth and protect crops from pest attacks and dust exposure. The program continued with training and mentoring for the partner and local community, covering an introduction to the solar panel system and hydroponic cultivation management. The questionnaire results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge and satisfaction regarding the use of solar energy and greenhouse construction. As the closing activity, the handover of the 2025 Kemdiktisaintek grant assets was conducted and witnessed by the Head of Meruya Selatan Urban Village.

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is a major freshwater aquaculture commodity with high production value in Indonesia. Intensification using Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) has increased disease risks, including jaundice, which is associated with high mortality rates. Jaundice in fish is generally linked to impaired liver function and disruption of bilirubin metabolism, leading to abnormal pigment accumulation and yellow discoloration. Limited farmer knowledge and improper management practices further exacerbate disease outbreaks and production losses. This activity aimed to improve farmers’ understanding of the causes, early detection, and prevention of jaundice disease to enhance fish health and aquaculture productivity. The program was conducted through systematic counseling, training on early detection and field diagnosis, and practical implementation of sanitation, water quality management, biosecurity, and fish quarantine. Evaluation was performed using pre-test, post-test, and regular monitoring of culture conditions. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in farmers’ knowledge and skills in recognizing clinical symptoms and conducting early disease detection. The application of sanitation and biosecurity measures improved water quality and reduced environmental risk factors. Most ponds showed a decrease in disease outbreaks and mortality rates. Fish survival rates increased compared to pre-intervention conditions, indicating the effectiveness of the implemented strategies. Additionally, farmers became more capable of independently applying fish health management practices, including feed management, water quality control, and preventive measures against disease transmission. This program effectively enhanced farmers’ capacity in preventing jaundice, contributing to improved fish health and aquaculture productivity.

Abstract

The increasing use of cosmetic products among teenagers requires special attention to the safety and halal of the products used. Lack of understanding of hazardous substances and halal certification can pose a risk to their health and religious beliefs. This community service activity was carried out through interactive counseling to students of SMA Trensains Muhammadiyah Sragen to increase their knowledge and understanding regarding safe and halal cosmetics. Program evaluation was carried out by comparing the results of the pretest and posttest using qualitative analysis of paired test methods and descriptive analysis. The results of the quantitative analysis showed a significant difference in student knowledge based on the pretest and post-test scores of SMA Trensains students in grades 10 and 11. The results of the descriptive analysis showed a significant increase with an increase of 30% from the results of the pretest and posttest scores. This program succeeded in providing more precise insights in choosing cosmetics that are in accordance with the principles of health and halal. These findings also serve as an important basis for implementing a sustainable education program about safe and halal cosmetics among teenagers.

Abstract

Forum Komunikasi Usaha Mikro (FORSAMIK) is an organization that oversees 238 members consisting of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at the sub-district level in Curug, Tangerang. Approximately 70% of these MSMEs operate in the food and beverage sector. Packaged chili sauce is one of the products developed by MSME members of FORSAMIK Curug, Tangerang. The main problem that is currently faced by these MSMEs is that the packaged sambal products they produce have a short shelf life, resulting in a sales system that depends solely on incoming orders. To increase production volume and expand the distribution reach to further improve the quality of packaged chili sauce products made by MSME members of FORSAMIK Curug, Tangerang, Food Technology team from UPH carried out this community service activity. The method used in this activity was active participation, consisting of observation, socialization, implementation, and evaluation stages. The activities were conducted in form of educational outreach and training. This community service was held on April 24, 2026, and was attended by 24 MSME representatives from Curug Sub-district, Tangerang. The activity received a positive response from participants, as indicated by their active participation throughout the sessions, increased knowledge based on the results of short quizzes conducted before and after the material delivery, and a strong willingness among participants to apply the knowledge gained at home and in their ongoing or future businesses. Through this activity, it is expected that the distribution reach of packaged sambal products will expand, ultimately improving the economic conditions of FORSAMIK Curug members.
