Abstract

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that is still frequently associated with stigma due to limited public knowledge regarding its signs, symptoms, and management, which may increase the risk of delayed treatment and complications during seizures. Adolescents, as a productive age group, play an important role in improving health literacy within their communities; therefore, health education efforts are needed to enhance understanding and preparedness regarding epilepsy. This activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge of the signs and symptoms of epilepsy as well as their preparedness in managing seizure events in the school setting. The method used was participatory education, including a pre-test, educational session using PowerPoint media, interactive discussion, and post-test among approximately 100 tenth-grade students at Pondok Pesantren Al Ishlahuddiny, Kediri, West Lombok. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with the mean score rising from 4.95 in the pre-test to 6.98 in the post-test, accompanied by an increase in the proportion of participants with high knowledge and a decrease in those with low knowledge. Participants’ enthusiasm was reflected in their active engagement during discussions and question-and-answer sessions. Therefore, school-based health education is effective in improving students’ knowledge and preparedness regarding epilepsy and has the potential to reduce stigma in the community.

Abstract

Kampung Lontong Surabaya has great potential as a unique destination known for its traditional lontong production center. Despite this potential, the community faces challenges in business digitalization. The main problems include limited knowledge of UMKM regarding business management integrated with digital concepts and the use of digital platforms. To address this, efforts were made through community empowerment, particularly by developing and optimizing a website as a digital promotion medium. The community service team applied the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, emphasizing active participation of residents in every stage. Activities included socialization, mentoring, and training on e-commerce websites and social media through three sessions, followed by competitions that promoted local events and culinary tourism in Kampung Lontong. The final stage consisted of periodic monitoring and evaluation to ensure sustainability. As a result, residents’ knowledge is now documented and distributed through digital media, strengthening their capacity in managing online promotional tools. The program not only produced tangible outputs but also created opportunities for collaboration with external partners such as media and educational tourism networks. Moreover, it successfully reactivated the role of community associations as collective actors in developing Kampung Lontong as a digitally adaptive community.

Abstract

Jamu (traditional herbal medicine) is an integral part of Indonesia’s cultural heritage, widely recognized as a traditional remedy for maintaining health and treating various ailments. Traditional jamu has a bitter taste, an unpleasant aroma, and an unappealing appearance to younger generations. As a result, interest in jamu has been declining. Currently, the younger generation is highly interested in innovation and technology. Therefore, to maintain its relevance, modifications to jamu are necessary. A jamu-making training program conducted for youth aims to change the younger generation’s perspective that jamu does not always have a bitter taste and a pungent aroma. This activity is designed so that youth can create jamu that they can enjoy themselves and that can also serve as a business opportunity. This community service project was carried out in Kertagena Tengah Village over a three-month period, from September to November 2025, with activity locations determined by visiting each school directly. The target audience for the activities was housewives and young people. Based on the data collected, it can be concluded that the outreach and training activities on café-style herbal medicine were effective in increasing participants’ knowledge levels and expanding the target market. Knowledge improvement occurred across all measured aspects, with the most significant increase in understanding of herbal medicine raw materials, Turmeric Squash, and the concept of café-style herbal medicine. Overall, this activity succeeded in strengthening understanding and fostering a positive perception of café-style herbal medicine as an innovation rooted in local wisdom with a modern approach

Abstract

The development of digital technology requires Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in rural areas to adapt to product marketing. Branding and visual identity have become essential elements in enhancing the competitiveness of MSMEs in the digital era. Labulia Village, Jonggat District, Central Lombok Regency, has diverse MSME potential; however, most business actors still face limitations in logo creation and the use of digital media. This condition impacts the low added value and limited market reach of their products. This community service activity was carried out by students participating in the Community Service Program (KKN) of the University of Mataram, together with field supervisors, to improve the knowledge, skills, and readiness of MSME actors in Labulia Village in creating logos and product branding as a strategy to strengthen MSMEs based on digital marketing. The methods included socialization of branding concepts, hands-on training using the Canva application on smartphones, and evaluation through pre-test and post-tests. The activity involved 41 participants, consisting of MSME actors, homemakers, youth, village officials, and the general public. The results showed an increase in the average participant score from 3.79 in the pre-test to 4.22 in the post-test, representing an improvement of 11.33%. Participants demonstrated increased understanding of the function of logos, the role of branding in enhancing product value, and the use of digital media. They were also able to independently design simple logos and understand their application in packaging and digital promotional media. This activity proved effective in improving branding literacy and digital readiness among rural MSME actors as an initial step toward strengthening competitiveness and expanding market reach.

Abstract

Stunting in young children is a chronic malnutrition problem that can lead to growth failure due to a prolonged lack of nutrient intake. The effects of stunting can increase the risk of illness, impaired brain and mental development, and delayed motor development in children. A mother’s lack of knowledge can put her child at risk of stunting. A mother’s education and knowledge play a significant role in preventing stunting; therefore, health education and awareness-raising programmes are essential. The objective of this activity is to enhance mothers’ knowledge regarding the prevention of stunting in young children. The target group comprises 36 mothers of young children at the ‘Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Kindergarten, Mandong, Trucuk, Klaten. The results of the community service activity showed that, following the provision of health education on stunting, the participants’ knowledge improved. The average pre-test score was 78.75 and the post-test score was 95.84. The community service activity ran smoothly; the participants were enthusiastic and eager to take part in the health awareness session on the prevention of stunting in children

Abstract

The success of coral reef ecosystem conservation depends heavily on the active participation of local communities as key stakeholders. Black coral is crucial for providing habitat for numerous marine species, but is vulnerable to human exploitation due to its slow growth. Although Indonesia has legal protection for black coral, its commercialization as a souvenir continues unchecked in Karimunjawa National Park, primarily due to low public awareness. This community service activity aimed to increase understanding of black coral ecology, its vulnerability, and population status, while also fostering dialogue among community members to promote conservation adherence. The approach used included field surveys, stakeholder coordination, oral presentations, and focus group discussions (FGDs) with 15 participants from diverse backgrounds in Karimunjawa. The program's effectiveness was assessed through pre- and post-tests, demonstrating a significant increase in knowledge—from 57% correct answers initially to 92% after the intervention. Participants also expressed their hopes for addressing conservation issues in their communities. Overall, targeted education proved effective in raising awareness, laying the foundation for community-led ecosystem protection. This deeper understanding is expected to strengthen future marine conservation efforts.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major risk factor for stroke among the elderly, leading to various complications and decreased quality of life. The role of community health volunteers (cadres) as promotive and preventive agents is crucial in preventing stroke complications at the community level. However, limited knowledge and practical skills among cadres remain a significant challenge. This community service activity aimed to strengthen the capacity of elderly Posbindu cadres in preventing stroke complications among hypertensive elderly through health education and hypertension exercise training. This study employed a participatory approach involving education sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice for 25 Posbindu cadres in Kalianyar Subdistrict, West Jakarta. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test to assess knowledge improvement, as well as observation to evaluate cadres’ skills in performing hypertension exercises. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 81.36 to 90.6 after the intervention. In addition, cadres were able to perform and independently guide hypertension exercises. These findings indicate that education and practical training effectively improve both knowledge and skills of cadres. In conclusion, strengthening the role of cadres through education and hypertension exercise training is an effective strategy to enhance their capacity as promotive and preventive agents in preventing stroke complications among hypertensive elderly. This program has the potential to be replicated in other communities to support community-based health promotion.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) in early childhood is an important effort to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases such as diarrhea and acute respiratory infections (ARI); however, handwashing practices among preschool children in Indonesia remain suboptimal, highlighting the need for early education using interactive, practice-based approaches involving teachers and the school environment. Various studies have shown that handwashing education interventions in educational settings are effective in improving children's knowledge, skills, and compliance. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of preschool children in applying proper handwashing techniques through interactive education at TK Al Hafiz, Malaka Village, North Lombok Regency. The activity employed an educational socialization method through counseling on sanitation, hygiene, and PHBS, conducted on August 13, 2025, involving 20 students and medical students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universitas Mataram, as facilitators. The implementation included material delivery and direct practice of the six-step handwashing technique, while evaluation was conducted through observation of the children’s abilities. The results showed an improvement in the accuracy and independence of children in performing handwashing steps, accompanied by high enthusiasm during the activity and support from teachers and parents in sustaining the behavior. PHBS education through handwashing training has proven effective in improving children's knowledge and skills, making it an important promotive and preventive approach in establishing healthy behaviors from an early age.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan program revitalisasi Museum Desa Sakra sebagai upaya penguatan literasi budaya dan edukasi masyarakat melalui kegiatan Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) Universitas Mataram. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif berbasis partisipatif melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan evaluasi respon peserta. Program meliputi penataan koleksi, pengadaan sarana, penyusunan booklet, kunjungan edukatif, dan lomba berbasis budaya. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan kualitas tata ruang museum, tersedianya media literasi, meningkatnya kunjungan pelajar, serta tumbuhnya minat generasi muda terhadap sejarah lokal. Revitalisasi ini mengubah museum dari ruang pasif menjadi ruang belajar interaktif. Program ini menegaskan bahwa museum desa berpotensi sebagai pusat edukasi dan pelestarian budaya berbasis masyarakat.

Abstract

Household waste remains a major issue in Lubuk Unen Village, Merigi District, Bengkulu Province, due to population growth, residential development, and changes in consumption patterns that tend to produce more waste daily. Poorly managed household waste can have various negative impacts, such as soil, water, and air pollution, the emergence of unpleasant odors, clogged drainage channels, and increased risks of public health problems. Furthermore, waste accumulation can also reduce the quality of residential environments and the comfort of residents' lives. This situation demonstrates the importance of real efforts to raise public awareness in waste management from its source. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge, awareness, and skills in waste management through the Sedekah Sampah program and the utilization of organic waste into valuable organic fertilizer. The Sedekah Sampah program is carried out by collecting inorganic waste that still has economic value to be sold, and the proceeds are used for the social benefit of the community. Meanwhile, organic waste such as food scraps, dry leaves, and kitchen waste is processed into organic fertilizer that can be used for yard plants and household-scale agricultural businesses. The program's implementation method involved socialization, outreach, training, hands-on practice, and participatory community mentoring. Results showed increased community understanding of the importance of waste sorting, increased community participation in the Sedekah Sampah (Trash Alms) program, and improved community skills in producing organic fertilizer from household waste. This program offers environmental, social, and economic benefits, thus potentially developing it as a model for community empowerment based on a circular economy and sustainable agriculture at the village level.
