Abstract

The Wana tribe is an indigenous community residing in the North Morowali district. Most of their daily activities take place in the forest of Kabalo. However, social inequality, especially in terms of access to education, is a significant concern for PKBM Kasintuwu Anta in eradicating illiteracy. Therefore, they have started conducting reading, writing, and counting training activities to address the issues that exist in the Wana tribe. The primary objective of these activities is to manage educational potential, particularly educational corridors that meet the community's requirements and prioritize the participation of the village community. By providing a positive impact on the education of the Wana tribe, it will enable them to read, write, and count, which is the primary step in eradicating illiteracy, the foundation of knowledge to advocate against social problems in indigenous communities. These activities were implemented between January and December 2018, with methods that include socialization, provision of learning equipment, and training in reading, writing, and counting. The results of this activity have helped the Wana tribe in writing, reading, and counting, motivating them to realize the importance of basic education, particularly among children learners.

Abstract

Rapid population growth has caused Indonesia to experience various population problems. One of the problems that often occurs at this time is health problems. West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is a province that has the highest percentage of child morbidity in Indonesia at 21.30%. Puyung Village is a village in Jonggat Sub-district that has the largest population of 13,648 people. Based on this number, Puyung Village has diverse population problems, namely health problems in children. Through socialization and education activities carried out by KKN International students, it is hoped that it will become a forum for increasing the level of knowledge about basic health and can form good relationships between the parties involved. The intended targets in this activity are elementary school students at SD-IT Yayasan GMC and SDN 1 Puyung. The subject matter provided is the introduction of the body's organ structure, the dangers of smoking, nutritional balance and clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS). The socialization and education activities regarding health insights for elementary school students in Puyung Village were classified as successful. The parameters of success in this activity can be seen and measured based on student responses to the material provided. The questions asked by students were quite diverse and the ability of students to answer questions given by students before and after the activity increased. In addition, students who take part in this program receive the material with a happy feeling because the provision of material is done in a fun way through playing and learning using learning models that have interesting shapes, colors and mechanisms. This activity was successfully carried out because the objectives were achieved well. Thus students can apply what they have learned in their lives.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country rich in natural resources with 30,000 species of plants that have the potential as medicines from a total of 40,000 plant species in the world. Most Indonesians have home yards, but still few are managed productively by planting TOGA. The large area, the large number of hamlets, and the dense population cause various problems in Sengkol Village, one of which is the lack of understanding about the importance of planting and utilizing TOGA. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct counseling on the importance of planting TOGA in the yard and demonstration of the use of TOGA into traditional herbal medicine as an alternative treatment with low costs and low side effects. Counseling and demonstrations in this activity are carried out by lecture and discussion methods, as well as product demonstrations. The lecture method is carried out when delivering counseling materials, the discussion method is carried out during the question and answer session, and the product demonstration method is carried out when demonstrating the making of herbal medicine from TOGA. The location of TOGA planting was carried out on an empty land in the yard of one of the residents of Pampang Lauk Hamlet with a land size of 6x6 m2. TOGA that is planted has properties that are adapted to diseases that commonly occur in the community, namely yellow turmeric, white turmeric, ginger, ginger, galangal, kencur, katuk, virgin palm, lemongrass, betel. Making a green house was carried out for one week involving youth and villagers using bamboo and paranets. Counseling participants were dominated by men (66.6%), adolescents (57.57%), and students (42.42%). The material presentation, discussion, and demonstration sessions went smoothly and the community was very enthusiastic about participating in the activity. Based on the counseling that has been carried out, the urgency of planting TOGA in the yard and the use of TOGA as an alternative treatment is well conveyed.

Abstract

Basic health literacy is fundamental knowledge that is crucial to be known from an early age by children and the general public. Health education provided from an early age will encourage children to live healthy lives, ultimately growing into a generation that is healthy, intelligent, and cheerful. However, the lack of facilities and infrastructure in schools, especially elementary schools located in remote areas, results in a limited understanding of basic health knowledge among children. Sengkol village is a village in the Pujut district that lacks the facilities and infrastructure to support the improvement of children's knowledge regarding basic health literacy. Therefore, Universitas Mataram (UNRAM), in collaboration with Fukushima Medical University (FMU), has initiated a program related to the popularization of medical knowledge (POMk), which involves the dissemination of basic health literacy in a simple and engaging manner using interactive learning methods and appropriate teaching aids related to the topics discussed. This enables children to better understand the basic health topics presented. The dissemination activities took place over two days in elementary schools in the Sengkol area, Central Lombok, namely Eco School Nusantara as a learning venue for children and SDN 4 Sengkol as a formal school. The topics covered during the dissemination included Body Puzzle, Dangers of Tobacco, Personal Hygiene and Sanitation (PHBS), and Nutrition Balance.

Abstract

Organic rice cultivation is a way of growing rice without using inorganic fertilizers and synthetic chemical pesticides. The fertilizer used is organic fertilizer and pest and disease control is carried out using the concept of integrated pest control. The "Tunas Harapan" farmer group, Sejahtera Village, Palolo District, Sigi Regency, with 20 members, is one of the farmer groups active in rice farming activities. The partners' problems in promoting organic rice cultivation are: not being able to prepare organic fertilizer and non-chemical pesticides as needed, and the low productivity of the rice produced. The community service program aims to assist partner farmers in preparing organic production facilities in the form of developing organic fertilizer, developing synthetic non-chemical pesticides made from local raw materials, and improving rice cultivation technology based on organic farming. The method applied is training and technology demonstration. The results of community service show that partners know the techniques for developing local microorganisms as liquid organic fertilizer and utilizing plants that have insecticidal properties as botanical pesticides. The application of liquid organic fertilizer in the organic rice cultivation demonstration plot showed better plant growth compared to without the application of liquid organic fertilizer. The knowledge and skills of participants in implementing organic rice cultivation increased to 45% of farmers who really understand organic rice cultivation technology.

Abstract

Sumbawa Regency is a district with an area of 3,619.50 Ha is used for shrimp farming activities. This area continues to increase along with increasing shrimp production. In shrimp farming operations, supporting facilities and infrastructure used can produce Hazardous and Toxic waste (B3) resulting from maintenance of generator engines, water wheel gear boxes, and others. Changes to government and ministerial regulations regarding B3 waste management need to be conveyed to fish farming business actors so that they can comply with the provisions for B3 waste management.
