Abstract

The rapid growth of online lending has improved financial access but has raised concerns about financial stress, social pressure, and psychological consequences among borrowers. This study addresses this gap by examining the borrower-centered impacts of online borrowing, which remain underexplored in prior research. The objective of this study was to analyze how financial stress and social impacts contribute to psychological outcomes. A qualitative approach was employed, using in-depth interviews with borrowers and industry practitioners, supported by document analysis. Data from 77 participants were analyzed using thematic analysis methods. The findings show that high interest rates and repayment obligations generate financial stress, disrupt social relationships, and lead to anxiety and reduced well-being. These results highlight the interconnected nature of the financial, social, and psychological challenges of online borrowing. This study offers practical implications for policymakers and lending platforms to develop more responsible and sustainable lending practices that better protect borrowers, particularly through stronger regulatory oversight, improved transparency in loan terms, and stricter controls on interest rate structures and collection practices. In addition, financial literacy programs and borrower education initiatives should be strengthened to help individuals make more informed borrowing decisions and manage repayment risks more effectively.

Abstract

Increasing workforce diversity requires organizations to strengthen effective multigenerational collaboration strategies. This study develops a culturally responsive competency framework for multigenerational teamwork and examines cultural adaptation as a mechanism linking adaptive competency to teamwork effectiveness. An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was conducted in a technology company and an educational institution in Surabaya, Indonesia. Semi-structured interviews with six purposively selected informants identified three interrelated capabilities: cultural adaptation, value flexibility, and cross-generational empathy. These findings were used to contextualize the quantitative measures. Questionnaire data from 45 employees representing Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z were analyzed using regression and bootstrap mediation. Adaptive competency was positively associated with teamwork effectiveness (β = 0.51, p < 0.001) and cultural adaptation (β = 0.50, p < 0.001). Cultural adaptation remained associated with teamwork effectiveness after adaptive competency was controlled (β = 0.35, p = 0.018). The indirect effect was significant (effect = 0.170, BootSE = 0.078, 95% CI [0.035, 0.342]), indicating partial mediation. The integrated findings show that adaptive competency supports teamwork when translated into culturally responsive communication and behavior. The study highlights the importance of adaptive communication, value flexibility, cross-generational empathy, and mentoring in diverse organizations.

Abstract

Increasing business uncertainty and supply chain disruptions require MSMEs to strengthen their resilience to remain competitive. This study aims to analyze the influence of supplier involvement, digital supply chain, and green supply chain management on competitiveness through supply chain resilience as a mediating variable in food and beverage MSMEs in Pekanbaru City. The research adopts a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 60 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the SEM-PLS approach through SmartPLS software. The results show that all constructs meet validity and reliability criteria, and the structural model has strong explanatory power. Supplier involvement, digital supply chain, and green supply chain management have positive and significant effects on both supply chain resilience and competitiveness, while supply chain resilience also positively influences competitiveness. Additionally, supply chain resilience partially mediates these relationships. Strengthening supplier collaboration, digitalization, and sustainable practices enhances resilience, which in turn improves MSME competitiveness. This study contributes theoretically by integrating multiple determinants of competitiveness within a comprehensive model and offers practical implications for MSMEs to develop adaptive, resilient, and sustainable supply chain strategies in a dynamic business environment.

Abstract

Maritime accidents remain influenced by human and institutional factors despite strengthened global regulations. However, variations in Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) compliance across maritime education institutions indicate that compliance alone does not fully explain safety readiness. This study examines how governance capacity shapes STCW compliance as an intermediate institutional capability. Using survey data from 109 maritime education institutions in Indonesia, this study applies Principal Component Analysis (PCA), multiple regression, ΔR² analysis, and FASTCLUS clustering to capture structural priorities and institutional heterogeneity. The results show that resource availability (β ≈ 0.31) and implementer disposition (β ≈ 0.27) are the most influential factors, jointly accounting for over 59% of the explained variance. Despite similar compliance levels, institutions exhibit different governance configurations, indicating latent heterogeneity. These findings suggest that compliance should be interpreted as a capacity-driven process rather than a procedural endpoint. The study contributes by integrating multivariate and configurational approaches to reframe compliance as an institutional capability mechanism and provides policy implications for shifting from compliance enforcement to capacity development in maritime education systems.

Abstract

Sustainability pressures are intensifying in the fossil-based energy sector, requiring organizations to strengthen human resources practices that support environmental goals. This study examines the roles of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) in enhancing organizational sustainability and green team creativity, while also considering top management support and environmental orientation as antecedents shaping GHRM. A quantitative approach is conducted using a perception-based survey of permanent employees in a large energy sector company in Indonesia. The data are analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that top management support and environmental orientation positively influence GHRM, while GHRM has a strong impact on green team creativity and organizational sustainability. Green team creativity also positively impacts organizational sustainability. These findings highlight GHRM as an organizational system that fosters green team creativity and strengthens organizational sustainability from employees’ perspectives. It provides empirical evidence from the Indonesian energy sector and highlights the importance of integrating top management support, environmental orientation, and green human resource management to advance organizational sustainability.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG) program is one of Indonesia’s most ambitious social logistics undertakings, requiring government agencies to deliver perishable meals daily to millions of beneficiaries across a fragmented archipelago. While existing studies have examined the program’s budgetary design and nutritional outcomes, comparatively little research has explored how logistics unfolds from the perspective of the people who operate it. This study employed a descriptive qualitative case study design focused on a Regional Implementing Unit in West Java, drawing on in-depth interviews with program coordinators, kitchen managers, couriers, and school-level beneficiary representatives, complemented by field observation and document review. Data were analyzed thematically following an established qualitative coding approach. Four interrelated themes emerged: fragmentation of last-mile distribution, vulnerability of the micro-cold chain, inaccuracy in demand signals, and variability among local suppliers. These themes converge on a shared condition, namely the absence of coordination and monitoring mechanisms linking kitchens, couriers, and beneficiaries. The findings suggest that simple, locally grounded route-planning and cold chain monitoring practices offer a more sustainable path toward efficiency than cost-cutting measures alone. As a single-site qualitative study, the findings are context-bound and point to the need for comparative research across Indonesia’s diverse regional settings.

Abstract

Driven by the burgeoning influence of digital marketing and social media marketing on consumer behavior within the Indonesian restaurant sector, this study investigates their effect on purchase intention. The primary objective is to evaluate how these digital strategies affect consumer intent, both directly and through the mediating role of brand awareness. Utilizing a quantitative methodology and a cross-sectional survey design, the research gathered data from 200 patrons of prominent restaurants in Semarang City. The subsequent analysis was performed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via IBM AMOS 24 software. The empirical results demonstrate that both digital marketing and social media marketing exert positive and significant effects on brand awareness and purchase intention, with social media marketing exhibiting a more pronounced influence. Additionally, brand awareness was found to significantly enhance purchase intention while functioning as a critical mediator between marketing efforts and consumer decisions. The study concludes that optimizing digital strategies, especially on social media, is vital for elevating brand visibility and stimulating consumer interest. These findings underscore the necessity for restaurant operators to craft interactive and pertinent digital content to maintain a competitive advantage in the modern digital marketplace.

Abstract

Indonesia’s naval defense industry plays a critical role in safeguarding the world’s largest archipelagic state. However, it remains highly dependent on foreign suppliers for mission-critical warship technologies, creating strategic vulnerabilities to geopolitical disruptions and supply chain uncertainty. This study aims to identify critical capability gaps within Indonesia’s warship industrial ecosystem and develop an Intelligent Independence Ecosystem Framework to strengthen long-term industrial resilience. A qualitative case study with embedded mixed-method data collection was employed using Product Breakdown Structure (PBS) analysis, supply chain mapping, legal classification based on Law Number 16 of 2012, and strategic evaluation through SWOT, Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE), and External Factor Evaluation (EFE) matrices. The findings reveal that Tier 2 represents the principal structural bottleneck, particularly in propulsion systems, combat management systems, sonar, and advanced weapon systems, while platform-related capabilities exhibit substantially higher localization potential. The industry achieved an IFE score of 2.20 and an EFE score of 2.35, positioning it in Cell V (Hold and Maintain) of the IE Matrix. Accordingly, this study proposes the Intelligent Independence Ecosystem Framework, which integrates progressive localization, diversified international technology partnerships, and strengthened research, industrial collaboration, and human capital development to improve the resilience, competitiveness, and long-term sustainability of Indonesia’s naval defense industry

Abstract

This research is driven by the growing focus on sustainable finance rooted in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles within the Islamic banking sector, although its application in Indonesia is still not optimal. This study aims to examine the impact of sustainable finance on financial performance and asset quality, considering the mediating influence of risk management in Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia. The research utilizes a quantitative method with a causal framework, utilizing panel data from 12 banks during the period 2021–2024, assessed through panel regression and mediation analysis. The findings indicate that sustainable finance has a significant negative effect on financial performance and no significant effect on asset quality. Furthermore, risk management positively and significantly influences financial performance, while its effect on asset quality is not significant. Moreover, it has been observed that risk management plays a mediating role in the connection between sustainable finance and financial performance, yet not in the link between sustainable finance and asset quality. These results suggest that the effect of sustainable finance is indirect and prolonged by enhancing risk management. This study suggests that Islamic banks must better incorporate ESG principles into their risk management frameworks, and regulators ought to enhance supportive policies.
