Abstract

This study aims to develop a local culture-based problem-posing test on linear programming material for eleventh-grade high school students and determine the content validity of the developed test based on expert judgment. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Four-D (4D) model. The developed test was designed to measure students’ abilities in three types of problem-posing activities: pre-solution posing, within-solution posing, and post-solution posing, by integrating local cultural contexts such as economic and agricultural activities around the Sembalun area of Mount Rinjani. The validation was conducted by two mathematics education experts and one local culture expert. The results showed that the developed test achieved a high level of content validity with an average score of 3.75, categorized as very valid. Therefore, the local culture-based problem-posing test developed in this study is considered feasible and valid to be used in assessing students’ abilities to formulate, develop, and solve contextual mathematical problems.

Abstract

Students' low problem-solving ability remains a problem in education. This study examines the effect of using PBL and STEM-based e-modules on mathematical problem-solving abilities in elementary to high school students focused on mathematics. The aim is to determine whether the e-modules used affect students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. The method used in this study is a system literature review (SLR) by reviewing articles from Google Scholar and Knowledge Maps sources from 2020 to 2025. The review process includes three stages: planning, implementation, and reporting. The results show that E-modules that integrate the PBL model, the STEM approach, or a combination of both are effective in improving students' ability to solve mathematical problems. These findings indicate that an innovative, student-centered learning model facilitated by e-modules is a potential strategy to address the challenges of problem-solving abilities in mathematics education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the results of a systematic literature review (SLR) concerning the integration of ethnomathematics-based Augmented Reality (AR) in geometry learning, particularly focusing on cube and cuboid concepts. This approach reviews the effectiveness of combining local cultural contexts with digital technology to enhance students’ conceptual understanding of mathematics. Literature was collected using the Publish or Perish tool from Scopus and Sinta databases and evaluated following the PRISMA guidelines to ensure relevance and eligibility. From 200 identified articles, 20 studies met the inclusion criteria and were further analyzed. The findings reveal that AR significantly improves students’ spatial visualization, understanding of volume and surface area, and learning motivation. Meanwhile, ethnomathematics serves as a contextual medium linking mathematical concepts to local culture, making learning more meaningful and character-building. The integration of both approaches fosters interactive, contextual, and culturally relevant learning while introducing the concept of symmetry groups through cultural exploration and digital visualization. The study recommends the development of an AR-ethnomathematics-based learning model that explicitly integrates symmetry group concepts to deepen students’ geometric understanding and strengthen cultural values in mathematics education

Abstract

Mathematics not only functions as a discipline of calculation but also serves as a medium to develop students’ critical and creative thinking skills. This study aims to describe the mathematical creative thinking ability of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kabila on the Pythagorean Theorem material in terms of their mathematical self-concept. The research was conducted in the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year using a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The subjects consisted of six students selected through purposive sampling, representing high, medium, and low categories of self-concept. Data were collected through mathematical creative thinking tests and interviews, then analyzed based on the indicators of fluency, flexibility, and originality. The results showed that students with a high self-concept fulfilled all indicators and were categorized as highly creative, students with a medium self-concept met only part of the indicators and were categorized as creative to fairly creative, while students with a low self-concept struggled to meet the indicators and were categorized as not creative. These findings emphasize that the higher the students’ mathematical self-concept, the better their mathematical creative thinking ability.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an in-depth overview of the numeracy problem-solving skills of elementary school students in 3T (frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged) regions, particularly in Pangkep Regency, within the framework of inclusive education. The selection of research subjects was based on the results of the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM), focusing on numeracy, which includes mastery of basic mathematical concepts and their application in real-life situations. Data collection was carried out through numeracy tests and in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that all respondents, both from grade IV and grade V, were categorized as having low numeracy skills. In the number pattern question, only 16% of grade IV students and 35% of grade V students answered correctly. For the number name question, the achievement rate was 58% for grade IV and 25% for grade V. Meanwhile, in the data analysis question, none of the grade IV students answered correctly, and only 30% of grade V students provided the correct answer. These results indicate that students’ numeracy literacy is low, particularly in reading, understanding, and analyzing information. Contributing factors include the lack of practice with context-based problems, limited learning facilities, the continued use of conventional teaching methods, and the socio-economic background of families. Based on these conditions, there is a need for numeracy learning interventions that are contextual, problem-based, and supported by teacher training to improve the numeracy skills of students in 3T areas. The novelty of this research lies in its specific combination of three aspects: problem-solving, numeracy skills, and inclusive education, particularly in 3T regions.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct a meta-analysis of studies evaluating the impact of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on enhancing students' critical thinking skills. Using a meta-analytic method, this research combines data from 16 studies to calculate effect sizes, test data heterogeneity, and analyze moderator variables. The effect size is calculated using the Hedges' g formula and classified according to Cohen's criteria: small (less than 0.2), medium (0.2–0.5), and large (above 0.8). The findings show that RME has a significant positive impact, with effect sizes ranging from 0.193 to 2.737. The largest impact was found in urban areas (effect size 1.2014) compared to rural areas (effect size 0.5581). At the elementary school level, the effect size was 0.7908, and at the junior high school level, it was 0.8287. The highest effect size was recorded in the 2023–2025 period (1.1487). Based on these results, it is recommended that educators and policymakers adopt the RME approach, considering local context and student characteristics. Further research with a larger dataset will strengthen statistical validity and deepen understanding of RME implementation in various learning contexts.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is a fundamental cognitive competency that enables students to analyze mathematical situations and communicate their reasoning effectively. Although numerous studies have investigated mathematical literacy, research that specifically examines students’ performance on HOTS-type mathematical tasks from a gender perspective remains scarce. This study aims to describe students’ mathematical literacy skills in solving HOTS problems based on gender differences. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the study involved 35 students from class XII IPA 1, consisting of 7 males and 28 females. Data were collected through tests and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that in analyzing-type HOTS items (C4), male students generally met only the communication indicator, with one male student demonstrating mastery of all indicators. Conversely, female students consistently fulfilled all mathematical literacy indicators. A similar pattern emerged in evaluating-type HOTS items (C5), where most male students achieved only the communication indicator, while female students met all indicators. In creating-type HOTS items (C6), both male and female students demonstrated achievement solely on the communication indicator.
