Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the use of the problem-based learning (PBL) learning model on science learning outcomes of students of SMP Negeri 2 Ruteng Beokina in the academic year 2019/2020. In this study, researchers used a type of survey research with a quantitative approach. The design of this study is ex-post facto. The population in this study were all eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ruteng Beokina, with 178 students. The sample in this study amounted to 66 people. The sampling technique uses simple random sampling. Data obtained from the study sample in the form of science learning outcomes value of pressure material. Data analysis using t-test. The results of the study indicate that learning physics using PBL learning models can affect the learning outcomes of science students of SMP Negeri 2 Ruteng Beokina in the academic year 2019/2020. This is evidenced by the results of calculations using SPSS software version 24, namely the value t = 19.095, of sig (2-tailed) or (0,000 <0.05) at α = 5% and dk = 65.

Abstract

The Indonesian curriculum states that science education is one of the efforts to improve the quality of people's lives to be able to have knowledge and skills in solving problems. Problem solving skills require capable critical thinking skills to be able to analyze, assess and reconstruct the knowledge they have to solve problems. In addition, the ability to think critically is an important aspect that must be developed according to the competence of 21st-century skills. This research is a type of qualitative research with a case study approach to identify students' critical thinking skills using the Engineering design process (EDP) integrated physics module which is differentiated by gender. The subjects of this study were six students, each consisting of three male students and three female students in class XI MIPA 2 at MAN 1 Jember. The data was collected in the form of observation data, documentation, and interviews. The data collected will be reduced, analyzed based on indicators of critical thinking skills, and presented to then draw conclusions. All data obtained will be tested for validity using triangulation techniques. The results of the identification of critical thinking skills indicate that there are differences in the characteristics of the problem-solving process between male and female students. Female students are better at interpreting problems accurately and in detail than male students. Meanwhile, male students dominate in giving ideas, and even though some ideas are not quite in accordance with the concepts of physics, and are still in doubt. Overall, there is no significant difference between the critical thinking abilities of male and female students. All students tend to still not fully understand the physics concepts related to solutions so that the statements and opinions given regarding solutions tend to be less clear and less logical.

Abstract

Textbooks play an essential role in students’ learning process. In physics learning, the textbooks could facilitate the scientific learning process. This study aims to find out the feasibility of the contents of the book entitled Physics Student Book 1 for Grade X Senior High School written by Purwanto Budi and Azam Muchammad 2019 published by PT Wangsa Jatra Lestari. Analysis of the feasibility of the contents of the book in this study is reviewed from several aspects, namely aspects of content feasibility, aspects of language, aspects of presentation, and aspects of graphic that BSNP has adjusted. The type of research used is qualitative descriptive research with check-list instrument as data collection tool. The analysis results in this study showed that in the aspect of content feasibility obtained a percentage of 80%, the linguistic aspect obtained a percentage of 78%, the presentation aspect obtained a percentage of 77%, and the aspect of graph obtained a percentage of 79%. These four aspects fall into the category of fulfilling, so the Physics Student Book 1 For Grade X Senior High School is worth to be used in the learning process.

Abstract

Teaching and learning process can be combined with the existence of skills. There are 4 types of skills that can be needed in the 21st century era. One such skill is the Communicative skill. Communicative skills are learning that emphasizes aspects of communication, interaction, and developing linguistic competencies, as well as language skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) as a goal to recognize that there is a connection with communication activities in daily life. The learning process can also use a learning approach that is relevant for students so that students can improve student learning outcomes at school. One learning approach that fits the 2013 curriculum is the STEM approach is a learning approach that combines two or more fields of science contained in STEM, namely science, technology, engineering or engineering, and mathematics. Through the STEM approach students are expected to have 2 skills of learning and innovation which include critical thinking, creative, innovative, and able to communicate and collaborate. Thus, learning must be embedded in basic concepts to the development of science and thinking skills.

Abstract

LKS is a teaching material that is often used by teachers in the learning process. Teaching and learning science based on the Engineering Design Process can train thinking processes well. This study aims to determine how the role of EDP is to strengthen students' critical thinking skills. This type of research is qualitative research using a single case study approach. This research was conducted at SMAN Arjasa, Jember Regency with 6 students as participants. Data were collected by observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used interactive model analysis by Miles and Huberman. The credibility test uses the triangulation technique and member check. The results of this study are the use of EDP in student worksheets provides the strengthening of students' critical thinking skills and the most support is at the define, learn, and plan stages. Meanwhile, at the try, test, and decide stages are the results of developing information that has been obtained in the previous stage but with consideration of joint decisions.

Abstract

This article dicussses how the digestive system e-module based on integrated STEM is used to improve student’sscientific literacy and learning outcome. Scientific literacy is a person's ability to understand science, communicate science, and apply scientific knowledge to solve problems so that they have a high attitude and sensitivity to themselves and their environment in making decisions based on scientific considerations. This research is a development research). The method used is development model suggested by Borg and Gall (1989) in Sugiyono (2015). The research stages are, 1) Potential Problems; 2) Data Collection, 3) Product Design, 4) Product Review; 5) Design Revision; 6) Design Validation; 7) Product trial; 8) Product Revision; 9) Mass Product Manufacturing. The result of pre-research question given to students, it is known that from 37 students 34 of them have low or incomplete scientific literacy scores. So that 91.8% of students have a low level of scientific literacy and 8.1% of students have a good level of scientific literacy. The scientific literacy domain which has the lowest score is science attitude and the final product of the learning using e-module is gerd candy made by students. The developed of e-module is based on a STEM approach consisting of four aspects, namely: (1) Science; (2) Technology; (3) Engineering; and (4) Mathematics. This module is developed to increase students’ scientific literacy for four domains, namely: (1) the context of science; (2) Science knowledge; (3) Science competence; and (4) scientific attitude.
