Abstract

Daphnia sp. is one type of zooplankton that is used as natural food. The potential for catfish culture waste from the biofloc system is not yet known as a source of nutrients in the culture of Daphnia sp. The biofloc system of catfish culture wastewater needs to be tested as a medium for Daphnia cultivation. This research method uses experimental methods, namely experiments and Completely Randomized Design (CRD) methods with 5 treatments and 3 replications, namely control treatment (clean water + chicken manure 5gram/liter), 75% clean water + 25% wastewater, 50% clean water + 50% wastewater, 25% clean water + 75% wastewater, and 100% wastewater. Nitzschia and Melosira from Class Bacillariophyceae and Copepods from Class Maxillopoda were identified in the waste. The use of catfish culture waste in biofloc systems with different concentrations affected the growth of Daphnia sp. Daphnia sp. cultivation media. with a concentration using 75% of the waste produced the highest growth peak on the twelfth day.

Abstract

Nilem fish is a native Indonesian commodity that has been cultivated for a long time by the community. Nilem fish has the potential to be developed into superior aquaculture products. Nilem fish cultivation is profitable in terms of economy, environmental sustainability, and aquaculture production. This study aims to determine the effect of giving different feed doses on survival and growth of nilem fish (Osteochilus vittatus) larvae. The research design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 5 replications. Data analysis was carried out with normality test and homogeneity test then continued with ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) test and to find out the difference between one treatment and another, a further test was carried out, namely the Least Significant Difference Test (BNT). The results of this study showed that the best percentage of survival, absolute weight growth and daily growth rate of nilem fish (Osteochilus vittatus) larvae was obtained in treatment B (4% of feed dose from biomass) with successive values of 97.72% ± 2.65, 0.22 grams ±2.65 and 8.23% ±6.76. This is because the amount of feed given can be utilized optimally by fish larvae so that it is not only for survival but also can support the growth process, and there is no turbidity (dissolved or suspended organic matter) in the live fish media which can result in inhibition of the growth of fish larvae.

Abstract

Cymodocea rotundata is a seagrass species that occupy habitats in the intertidal zone. The ability of this species to occupy the intertidal zone is thought to be related to its particular morphological adaptations in response to fluctuations in local aquatic environmental conditions. This study aims to describe habitat conditions, distribution related to density, morphological differences, and growth among C. rotundata seagrass stands in the upper, middle, and lower intertidal zones of Yankarwar Beach, Manokwari, West Papua. Transects and quadrats methods were used to collect seagrass samples, so information on their distribution and density could be obtained. The seagrass samples collected were also analyzed (counted and measured) for their morphological characters including the number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, horizontal sheath internode length, root length, stand weight, leaf weight, rhizome weight, and root weight. Seagrass growth was obtained by marking the leaves and observing them for 10 days. The results of this study indicate that the conditions of the physicochemical parameters of the intertidal waters are still suitable for the growth of this seagrass species. The highest density was found in the upper intertidal zone (3,161.73 stands.m-2) and followed by the middle intertidal zone (962.04 stands.m-2). Although most of the morphological characters of seagrasses and seagrass parts were relatively the same between the three intertidal zones, larger leaf widths and lengths of horizontal rhizome internodes were found in stands in the two upper intertidal zones. Differences in growth as reflected by the increase in leaf length and dry leaf weight also showed greater values in the upper and middle intertidal zones. This condition shows the adaptability of this seagrass species to variations in environmental parameter conditions in the middle and upper intertidal zone. In addition, the results of this study indicate the presence of C. rotundata, especially in the intertidal aquatic environment which has an important ecological role, including as a substrate stabilizer. Therefore, this vegetation conservation effort is very important. Keywords: intertidal zone, morphological adaptation, seagrass growth

Abstract

White snapper (Lates calcarifer) is a marine fish that can be referred to as giant sea perch, sea bass, and barramundi. This fish is one of the fishery commodities that have many overseas enthusiasts. The characteristics of fish are that they are easy to cultivate because they grow relatively fast and can adapt well to the environment. However, in the process of cultivation, seeds have low susceptibility to diseases caused by environmental conditions. The solution to overcome this is to improve the quality of the parent and seed. Furthermore, the seeds are cultivated until they reach the consumption size to meet market needs. The purpose of writing this scientific article for street vendors is to find out the cultivation techniques of white snapper at the BPBAP Situbondo Fisheries Center, as well as the problems that occur during cultivation activities. The method used was the active participation method and observation. White snapper cultivationtechniques include broodstock maintenance, hatchery, and rearing, each of which consists of pond preparation, feeding, monitoring water quality, and monitoring pests and diseases. The results of observations obtained from parent-rearing activities were 79% FR, hatchery activities obtained 50% HR and 22% SR, and rearing activities with 0.10% SGR, 4.29 FCR, and 54.43% SR. The obstacle that occurs is the presence of human error in the hatchery unit due to delays in grading, causing low survival rates (SR) that do not meet the requirements. In addition, the rearing unit trash feed is not always available so it does not meet the requirements in the calculation of SR, SGR, and FCR.

Abstract

Ornamental fish farming is one of the supporting sectors of the fishery community's economy. The increasing ornamental fish production in 2022 is more influenced by the increasing demand for native Indonesian ornamental fish in the world market. “KOI” is one of the iconic ornamental fish in Indonesia as the most widely produced ornamental fish in 2022. The existence of Spirulina as a natural source of carotenoids can replace the use of synthetic carotenoids, thereby saving production costs in aquaculture. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of enriching carotenoid sources of Spirulina flour on color enhancement and growth of koi fish (Cyprinus carpio). 40 koi fish (Cyprinus carpio) were given different feed treatments. P0 was the control (the feed was not given additional S. fusiformis flour. Meanwhile, the P1, P2, and P3 groups were fed with the addition of S. fusiformis flour at different concentrations (1%, 3%, and 5%). Koi fish were reared for 30 days by observing the color brightness level which was measured once every 7 days using the Toca Color Finder (TCF). Survival rate was measure at the end of the study. The results showed the survival rate of koi fish was 100%, the highest growth rate was found in the addition of Spirulina flour with a dose of 3% of 1.15 ± 0.31%. osis 1% (P1) was able to increase the color of koi fish significantly compared to control (P0) with a final score of 24. The use of 1% spirulina (P1) did not show a different color improvement compared to P2 (score 22) and P3 (score 21) although the increase in color was higher than all treatments.
