Abstract

Eucheuma spinosum is a promising marine resource for food, hydrocolloid, and bioactive compound applications, although its nutritional and safety characteristics may vary with geographical origin. This study characterized E. spinosum from Gerupuk Waters, Central Lombok, focusing on raw material quality, nutritional composition, mineral and heavy metal contents, phytochemical profile, and antioxidant activity. Samples were dried and extracted using ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) with methanol. Analyses included organoleptic assessment, clean anhydrous weed (CAW), proximate composition, mineral analysis by ICP-OES, heavy metal analysis by ICP-MS, qualitative phytochemical screening, and DPPH radical-scavenging activity. The raw material complied with SNI 2690:2023, with an organoleptic score of 8 and CAW content of 50.20%, while the methanolic extract yield was 1.36%. The seaweed was characterized by high ash (35.88%), carbohydrate (32.01%), and crude fiber (15.41%) contents, with potassium as the predominant mineral (18,221.22 mg/100 g). Hg, Cd, and Pb concentrations were within SNI limits; however, total arsenic reached 7.12 mg/kg, exceeding the applicable maximum limit. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, saponins, and steroids, while the methanolic extract showed strong DPPH radical-scavenging activity (IC₅₀ = 70.81 ppm). Overall, E. spinosum from Gerupuk Waters exhibited favorable raw material quality and considerable nutritional and antioxidant potential. However, the elevated total arsenic content represents an important food-safety concern, and arsenic speciation and further toxicological assessment are required before its suitability for direct food or functional-food applications can be established.

Abstract

Rice weighing in village-scale rice industries is generally still performed manually, resulting in dependence on operators, potential recording errors, and limited access to real-time weighing information. This study aims to formulate and develop the initial concept of SMART RICE-WS (Smart Rice Weighing System), an Internet of Things (IoT)-based digital rice weighing system designed to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and traceability of the weighing process. The research employs a Design-Based Research Methodology (DBR) through iterative stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research activities include existing process analysis, literature review and state-of-the-art analysis, user requirement identification, system architecture design, algorithm development, simulation module implementation, and initial testing. The proposed system integrates a Load Cell, HX711, ESP32, actuator, LCD, IoT communication, database/cloud storage, and monitoring dashboard. Initial testing was conducted through ten measurements using reference loads of 1 kg and 2 kg. The results showed that the system was able to measure both loads, with an average absolute error of 1.55%. These initial findings indicate that the Load Cell–HX711–ESP32 module can serve as a foundation for further system development. Subsequent development will focus on calibration, repeated testing, actuator integration, and IoT-based monitoring.

Abstract

Coal mining is an activity that contributes to environmental degradation; consequently, reclamation during the production phase must be carried out and is a regulation that must be complied with by every holder of a Mining Business License (IUP) or a Special Mining Business License (IUPK) when the mining business license area enters the post-mining phase. This study aims to analyse the success rate of mine reclamation at PT Mega Multi Energi during the period 2015–2019, as explained in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No. 1827 K/30/MEM/2018, Appendix VI. The method employed was quantitative descriptive analysis through field observations and a comparison of planned versus actual data. The research results indicate that the total reclamation success score, based on the weighting of Matrix 17 in Appendix VI of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No. 1827 K/30/MEM/2018, falls into the "moderate" category with a final score of 62%. This comprises land management, which scored 43.4 out of a possible 60; revegetation, which scored 10 out of 20; and final completion, which had the lowest score of 8.5 out of 20. It is recommended that Mining Business License holders carry out improvements in land management areas, construct erosion control structures, plant cover crops, optimise fertilisation, and increase the number of seedlings.

Abstract

The performance of construction projects is a key factor in the success of modern infrastructure development, particularly in achieving cost, quality, and schedule targets. Road improvement projects at PT X face operational challenges, including delays in the delivery of prefabricated materials and extreme weather conditions, which may reduce daily work productivity. This study aims to identify the dominant factors affecting project performance, determine their relative importance using the Relative Importance Index (RII) method, and formulate appropriate control strategies. A quantitative approach was employed using questionnaires distributed to 30 project personnel, of which 28 valid responses were returned and analyzed. The questionnaire consisted of 15 variables related to factors affecting project performance. The RII values were classified into three importance levels: high, moderate, and low. Although three classification levels were used, the results showed that the analyzed variables fell only into the high and moderate categories. The two most dominant factors were the suboptimal internal quality management system, with an RII of 0.700, and the lack of coordination among parties in quality control, with an RII of 0.686. The proposed control strategies include conducting periodic quality audits, assigning dedicated supervisors at critical project stages, and strengthening integrated materials supply chain management. These strategies are expected to improve project implementation efficiency at PT X and provide a useful reference for future road infrastructure projects.

Abstract

Construction projects are highly complex and uncertain, necessitating a planning system that enhances the reliability of project execution. One approach is the Last Planner System (LPS); however, its implementation still faces various challenges. This study investigates the extent to which Implementation Challenges and Barriers influence the Implementation of the Last Planner System among construction service providers. This study used a quantitative approach and collected primary data through a questionnaire distributed to 41 respondents. Before use, the researchers tested the instrument for validity and reliability. The study analyzed the data using IBM SPSS Statistics. The test results showed that all 23 statement items were valid and reliable, with Cronbach’s Alpha values of 0.962 for Variable X and 0.964 for Variable Y, respectively. Furthermore, challenges and obstacles positively and significantly influenced the implementation of LPS. This is evident from the path coefficient value of 0.454 with a p-value of 0.038 (p < 0.05), as well as a t-statistic value of 2.142 that exceeds the critical value. The R² value was recorded at 0.206. Thus, the Challenges and Barriers factor explains 20.6% of the variation in the LPS Implementation factor; the factors in this study do not account for the remaining 79.4%. These findings suggest focusing on management commitment, staff understanding, coordination, and team involvement to support more effective LPS implementation.

Abstract

Engineering laboratories combine high-energy machinery, live circuits, pressurised fluids and open flames with novice student operators, yet occupational health and safety in Indonesian higher education is still managed largely through academic rather than risk-based instruments. This study applies Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control (HIRARC) to six practicum laboratories of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Universitas Tidar, using the practicum activity rather than the room as the unit of analysis. Hazards were identified through direct observation and document review and scored by an assessor panel on a 5 x 5 matrix with predefined severity and likelihood criteria. Three main findings emerge. First, the 27 activity-level hazards are dominated by mechanical sources, and nearly half of the activities (44%) are high risk before control. Second, risk profiles differ between laboratories: the machining-intensive Production Process, Welding and CNC laboratories carry the highest mean risk, while the single most severe activity is CNC operation with a running spindle, so mean-based and peak-based rankings point to different priorities. Third, combined engineering and administrative controls, each mapped to the Indonesian regulation that requires it, are expected by the assessor panel to bring every activity to the low band, an estimated mean reduction of 58.5%; this is a prospective panel estimate, not a result measured after implementation. The study contributes an activity-based, regulation-linked risk register that allows laboratories with different energy profiles to be compared on one scale and to be prioritised for safety investment.

Abstract

In the injection section of PT Natamas Plast, product sorting activities are performed using workstations with different types and dimensions of chairs and tables that have not been fully adjusted to operator anthropometric characteristics. This condition may result in non-ergonomic working postures and musculoskeletal discomfort. This study aimed to identify ergonomic problems in the product sorting workstation and provide a basis for ergonomic workstation redesign. The study was conducted through direct observation of working conditions and assessment of musculoskeletal complaints using NBM, while working posture was evaluated using REBA. The NBM results showed that operators experienced musculoskeletal complaints, particularly in the lower back, calves, and buttocks with the percentage complaints above 4%. The REBA assessment indicates that 5 out of the 9 operators are classified as having a high-risk level ranging score from 8 to 10. Anthropometric measurements were also performed to determine the workstation dimensions based on the 5th to 95th percentile, resulting in a proposed adjustable chair with a height of 39 to 49 cm and an adjustable worktable height from 136 to 159 cm. The proposed workstation design integrates musculoskeletal complaints, postural risk, and operator anthropometry to improve compatibility between the operator and workstation. The main contribution of this study is the development of a proposed ergonomic workstation based on REBA assessment and operator anthropometric data, which provides a technically justified intervention for mitigating identified ergonomic risks and serves as a basis for future implementation.

Abstract

Hazard reporting is an essential part of occupational safety management because it helps in identifying and communicating conditions and actions that have the potential to give rise to risk. The digital hazard reporting systems used in industrial settings can be adapted as instructional media to give students experience of the occupational safety reporting process. This study aims to produce a web-based occupational safety hazard reporting prototype as a learning aid and to examine its functionality, the change in students’ knowledge, and students’ perceptions of its use. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model. Functional testing was conducted using black-box testing, while use of the prototype was evaluated by comparing pre-test and post-test results and administering a student perception questionnaire. Black-box testing confirmed 14 of the 15 scenarios (93.33%) as designed, the mean knowledge score rose from 80.96 to 99.65 (N-Gain 0.98, high category), and student perceptions averaged 4.86 (strongly agree). These results indicate that the Safety Report prototype can serve as a learning aid that provides simulated experience of hazard reporting in occupational safety instruction. The contribution of this study is a prototype for reporting occupational safety and health hazards, ranging from the identification of unsafe conditions and unsafe actions to the monitoring of follow-up actions on such reports, within a learning context. This pilot study involved a single group of 57 students without a comparison group; therefore, these findings should be viewed as an initial indication of the prototype’s usability, rather than as evidence of its effectiveness.

Abstract

Buk Putih Bridge is part of the Jajag–Pesanggrahan road network leading to southern Banyuwangi and is located in Bangorejo, Banyuwangi. Subsurface soil conditions are an important factor in supporting the bridge's foundation design. This study analyzes subsurface soil characteristics and stratification based on cone penetration test (CPT) data. The tests were conducted at two points (S.1 and S2), analyzing cone resistance (qc) and friction ratio (Rf). Soil characteristics were interpreted using the Robertson Soil Behavior Type (SBT) approach, which represents soil behavior based on CPT. The results show that the maximum qc value of 250 kg/cm² was recorded at a depth of 4.00 m at point S.1 and at a depth of 8.00 m at point S.2. Both points indicate a surface layer consisting of clay to clayey silt extending to a depth of approximately 3.00 m, characterized by low to moderate (qc) values and relatively high (Rf) values. Below this depth, increased (qc) and decreased (Rf) indicate a transition to granular soils. Differences in the depth of soil layers with qc ≥ 250 kg/cm² indicate horizontal variations in soil stratification. These findings provide basic information on subsurface soil conditions to inform the bridge's foundation and structural planning.
