Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused grief among individuals due to restrictions on communication, end-of-life care, deceased remains management, and mourning customs. This research aimed to understand the individual process of undergoing grief following the loss of a family member. The study involved four participants who experienced the loss of a core family member, along with an informant. The research found that COVID-19's constraints, intimacy, psychological resilience, coping capacity, death anticipation, and social support influenced participants' grieving processes. Loss triggers physical, emotional, and communal distress, forcing family members to fulfill vacated roles. Despite grief, individuals can adjust and persevere, bringing novel perspectives and enhanced understanding of life. The study's findings reveal that the passing of a family member due to COVID-19 evoked distinct responses in each participant, and those who have experienced such loss express optimism that increased community awareness can prevent others from experiencing similar ordeals.

Abstract

Student’s learning achievement is affected by internal and external factors. This study aimed to discover the relationship between self-efficacy and teachers' attitudes with SMP N (State Junior High School) 1 Bantul student learning achievement in English language subjects. The self-efficacy variable is considered the internal factor, while the teacher’s attitude is one of the external factors. This study is quantitative research using the non-experimental research design and correlational approach. The research population involved 320 students of Grade VIII of SMP N 1 Bantul, selected using the cluster random sampling technique. The research data were collected using the self-efficacy scale adapted from Gafoor & Ashraf (2006), the teacher’s attitude scale compiled by Yuzarion (2014), and students’ final semester examination grades from the Even Semester Year 2022/2023. The data analysis technique applied to analyze these data was multiple linear regression using the assistance of the SPSS application. In the minor hypothesis testing, an R-value of .539 was obtained for the self-efficacy variable, and .690 for the teacher attitude variable with a probability value of .000. Based on the results of multiple regression analysis for the major hypothesis, an R-value of .701 was obtained with a probability value of .000. These results mean that there is a strong relationship between self-efficacy and teacher attitudes towards student’s learning achievement. The effective contribution separately for the self-efficacy variable is 8.8% and 40.3% for the teacher attitude variable. The total effective contribution is 49.1%, with the remaining 50.9% influenced by other variables not discussed in this research.

Abstract

Self-efficacy influences students' beliefs to achieve the desired results. The social environment was vulnerable to the development of student self-efficacy because it functioned as a source of information that students perceived. This study aimed to analyze student self-efficacy in terms of parental involvement and teacher and peer support. These participants involved 400 SMK students in Pasuruan Regency, who were selected using a multi-stage random sampling technique. The research instrument used a self-efficacy scale with the test results producing a reliability coefficient of .780, parental involvement .785, teacher support .572, and peer support .834. Data analysis used PLS-SEM. Based on the probability value of F-statistics, the p-value was .000 < α (α = .05), meaning that there was an influence from the three predictor variables simultaneously on student self-efficacy. Partially, the t-statistical value of the three variables was also proven to be greater than the t-table (1.96), with parental involvement of 2.868, teacher support of 8,970, and peer support of 4,101. Thus, simultaneously, predictor variables had an effect on self-efficacy, and partially, teacher support had the most significant effect, followed by peer support, and parental involvement had the slightest effect.

Abstract

Progress over time has encouraged the gay community to be more open about their sexual identity. However, there is still stigma and societal disacceptance because they are considered deviant from religion, law and culture. This research aims to determine the relationship between self-disclosure and the psychological well-being of homosexuals (gay) in Central Java. The method used is quantitative with a correlational design. A total of 237 homosexuals (gay) in Central Java were used as research participants using incidental sampling techniques. Research measurements used the Revised Self-Disclosure Scale (α = .92) and the Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale (α = .543-.828). The research data analysis method uses the product-moment correlation test from Karl Pearson. The research results show a significant, but not strong, positive relationship between self-disclosure and psychological well-being (r = .147 and sig. = .012). This indicates that self-disclosure is one of the factors related to increasing the psychological well-being of homosexuals (gays) in Central Java. The implication of this research is the need for self-disclosure for homosexuals (Gay) to vent all the feelings and inner pressure they experience and make them feel more relieved to improve their psychological well-being to live their lives well for the sake of past goals. Future research should be able to develop research by looking for other factors related to self-disclosure and psychological well-being.

Abstract

Adolescence is an age that is very vulnerable in the development process because adolescents have not yet reached the cognitive and physical maturity of adolescence. At this level, teenagers are very vulnerable to experiencing setbacks, and one of them is due to the terrorist conflict they have experienced. This condition has a huge impact on the life process and mental health problems of teenagers. One of the things needed is for teenagers to become resilient, so they can recover from difficult and risky times. This research aims to examine the portrait of the resilience of teenagers living in areas prone to terrorist conflict. The method used is qualitative descriptive phenomenology. Participants involved 3 teenagers living in terrorist conflict areas who used the snowball sampling technique. The data collection process was carried out through structured interviews. The research results show that in general, resilience in adolescents living in areas prone to terrorist conflict can be achieved. Researchers also discovered a new factor influencing resilience: belief in religion, which has been the guideline for individual life.

Abstract

Mental health in the younger generation is essential to have. However, guidance and counseling undergraduate students who face mental health problems are not all willing to seek help. The low intention to seek help among guidance and counseling undergraduate students is thought to be influenced by a lack of knowledge about mental health and low self-efficacy. The condition of not seeking help results in losses for oneself, the community and the nation's future. The research aims to determine the influence of mental health knowledge and self-efficacy on intentions to seek help. The research used a quantitative design and data analysis using linear regression assisted by SPSS 26. The population of this research is guidance and counseling students. Researchers used purposive sampling and obtained 194 respondents willing to participate in the research. Researchers used three instruments. On the Mental Health Knowledge Schedule scale, the validity level moves from .391 - .870 with a reliability of .896. The general self-efficacy scale with the validity value moves from .450 - .731 and a reliability of .868. The intention to seek help scale with scores ranging from .668 - .845 and a reliability of .887. The research results are: (1) there is an influence between mental health knowledge and intention to seek help, (2) there is no influence between self-efficacy and intention to seek help, (3) there is a correlation between mental health knowledge and self-efficacy, (4) there is no influence between mental health knowledge and self-efficacy on intention to seek help. Suggestions for further research need to reduce the stigma of mental health problems, expand access to mental health assistance and increase undergraduate students' trust in the professional competence of mental health professionals in the educational environment so that undergraduate students are willing to take advantage of access to assistance.

Abstract

Studies investigating the correlation between secret-keeping tendencies and partner satisfaction are still relatively scarce. This research seeks to identify the extent to which the inclination to keep secrets can influence marital satisfaction, with the role of relationship authenticity in unravelling the complexity of such interactions. This study explores the relationship between secret-keeping tendencies and marital satisfaction, with relationship authenticity as a mediator. The research employed a quantitative, cross-sectional methodology utilizing The Five-Item Preoccupation Scale, Authenticity in Relationships Scale, and Relationship Assessment Scale. The study involved 2,184 individuals (76.1% female) aged 25 years and above, all married. The finding reveals that relationship authenticity partially mediates the relationship between secret-keeping tendencies and marital satisfaction. The results of this study can serve as a reference for enhancing marital satisfaction by reducing the inclination to keep secrets and thereby strengthening the perception of relationship authenticity.
