Abstract

Beauty is often closely linked with physical appearance in the current digital era. Prevailing beauty standards in society presuppose certain criteria for beauty, making adherence to these standards the primary basis for assessing one's body image. This study aims to provide an overview of the body image perceptions among women who struggle with acne or "acne fighters." This qualitative research adopts a phenomenological design. Participants were purposively selected using the purposive sampling method. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Findings indicate that women who are acne fighters are dissatisfied with their physical condition, depicting their appearance as unattractive and failing to meet prevailing beauty standards within their social environment. This dissatisfaction leads to decreased self-confidence and negative impacts on social relationships. The study also identifies that one of the main contributing factors to the formation of negative body image is the normalized beauty standards prevalent in society.

Abstract

Premarital sex among students showed an increasing trend. Advances in communication technology were considered non-social factors thought to have contributed to this phenomenon. However, premarital sexual behaviour was indeed not only influenced by external factors. The research aimed to analyze the influence of religiosity and peer support on commitment in dating relationships. The research took samples from a population and used a questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. The target population for this research was students aged > 18 to 40 years who were categorized in the early adulthood range. The sampling technique was non-probability sampling because the respondents had characteristics that could not be randomly selected. Before the questionnaire was used, an instrument testing process was carried out, so the statement items contained in it contained a high discrimination index (item discrimination). Hypothesis testing used variance-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), namely Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM), considering that there were variables with reflective and formative indicators in one research model. The results of data analysis showed that the two predictor variables (religiosity and peer support) simultaneously had a significant effect on commitment to a dating relationship, as evidenced by the value of Pr > F = 0.000 < α (α = 0.05). Likewise, partially, the t-statistics value of the religiosity variable was 4.807 > 1.96, and the t-statistics value of the peer support variable was 5.104 > 1.96. Thus, simultaneously and partially, these two predictor variables significantly affected student relationship commitment in early adulthood.

This research uses a systematic literature review method using Publish or Perish software to collect articles from several sources such as Google Scholar, Research Gate, SINTA, DOAJ and Scopus. The keywords used are “mindfulness”, “anxiety”, “kecemasan”, “remaja”, “adolescents” and “teenage”. Based on these keywords, more than 500 articles published in 2019-2024 were found. Next, the researcher used 16 articles that were closely related to this research with a total of samples of 6.034. The research results show that mindfulness has proven effective in overcoming adolescents’ anxiety and there is a negative relationship between mindfulness and anxiety that adolescents who have high mindfulness will have low anxiety and vice versa. There are several programs of mindfulness intervention that can be carried out by adolescents, ranging from formal to informal practices that can be practiced when doing daily activities according to needs, situations and conditions.

Abstract

Traditional gender roles have put psychological pressure on college students. The lack of gender-sensitive counseling services and studies in universities reinforces traditional gender roles. With this basis, this study aims to determine students' views on gender-sensitive counseling services. Qualitative research using semi-structured interviews was used to understand their perspectives deeply. Focus is given to formulating questions, aiming to address potential social biases that may hinder participants from providing honest information. Participants consisted of 4 guidance and counseling students (2 men and two women) who had not received lecture material on gender-sensitive counseling in a multicultural counseling course at one of the State Universities in Samarinda City. The results showed that there is an understanding of traditional gender roles, masculinity discourse in counseling services, and gender bias occurring in counselors can be obstacles in providing access to gender-sensitive mental health services. This research confirms the need to study and design gender-sensitive counseling services to access more inclusive mental health services in higher education.

Abstract

This study focuses on analyzing factors that are significant to the occurrence of cyberbullying cases and identifying aspects of cyberbullying that have a significant influence on cyberbullying behavior in generation Z in Indonesia. The research method used is quantitative. The dependent variable in this study is cyberbullying and the independent variable is social media. The population of this study consisted of students from three provinces in Sulawesi, namely South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi. Samples were taken from the third province of Sulawesi as many as 389 students using the proportional stratified random sampling method. Data analysis used the prerequisite test analysis approach through the data normality test and data linearity test using the ANOVA statistical technique using the JASP statistical application. The results of the study show that the factors that have a significant influence on cyberbullying behavior in generation Z students are the intensity of comments on social media. The intensity factor of using social media and the type of social media have no effect on cyberbullying behavior. Aspects of verbal written bullying and social exclusion have no significant effect on cyberbullying. The visual aspect of sexual bullying on cyberbullying behavior in terms of the intensity factor of giving comments on social media has a strong significant difference. Abstract

Language politeness has different standards in every country and even in different regions due to cultural varieties. Thus, factors influencing politeness are also various. The study aims to identify the dominant and pre-dominant factors influencing the language politeness of the Z generation. Nine independent variables were investigated in this study, including gender, school background, discipline, tribe, intensity using social media, intensity adding a comment in social media, semester, and province, as the dependent variables, while the language politeness of the Z gen was the independent variable. The research samples were 1354 students from 3 different provinces, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi, selected through random cluster sampling. The instruments in this study included an instrument of factors determining politeness developed by the researchers using a categorization instrument, and Politeness Behavior on Communicating developed using the Likert model. The instrument had been evaluated using EFA and CFA tests, and showed that the model was fit. Data were analyzed using MANOVA continued with the Least of Significant as (LSD). Research findings show four factors influencing language politeness, namely tribe, the intensity of writing comments in social media, provinces, and types of universities. The findings also show that in Indonesia, language politeness is still dominated by factors of culture, religion, and social media. The language politeness of the Z Generation is not only a self-identity in social life but also an image in the virtual world.
