Abstract

Active-empathic listening skills is one important factor in building healthy romantic relationship for emerging adults. Previous studies have focused more on sexual education, dating violence prevention, active listening, and empathic listening separately, without specifically targeting emerging adults. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of healthy romantic relationship training on enhancing the active-empathic listening skills among emerging adults. The training included knowledge and skills related to active-empathic listening, such as knowledge about healthy romantic relationships, self-concept, adaptive coping strategy, and active-empathic listening skills. This study was conducted using a quasi-experimental within-subject design, measured using the Healthy Romantic Relationship Scale and the Active-Empathic Listening Scale (AELS). 13 unmarried emerging adults (M = 21.9) completed the training session until the follow-up session. Results from quantitative analysis using repeated measure ANOVA indicated that healthy romantic relationship training is effective on enhancing active-empathic listening skills in emerging adults (F(2,11) = 4.872, p = .031). Qualitative data further supported the hypothesis, showed the improvement in knowledge, skills, and confidence in applying active-empathic listening skills within future romantic relationships. Findings highlighted the importance of training programs focused on enhancing active-empathic listening skills to support emerging adults in achieving healthier outcomes in their romantic relationships

Abstract

This study will examine the problematic behaviors exhibited by the character Zain Al-Rafeea in the film Capernaum, analyzing these behaviors as a consequence of the parenting patterns employed by his parents. The method used in analyzing problematic characters and behavior is by using the behavioristic analysis method, which examines the relationship between stimuli and responses to understand how parenting influence shapes behavior. The approach used in this study is qualitative using library research with data collection techniques through observation and documentation in the Capernaum film which will be presented in descriptive form. The results of this research show that the problematic behavior shown by Zain Al-Rafeea, such as stealing, speaking harshly, running away from home, and getting involved in physical conflict with adults, is a conditioned response that is attached and connected to the stimulus resulting from his parents' parenting style. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the fields of education, psychology, and child welfare by identifying risk factors that contribute to the emergence of problematic behavior in children. This study is also expected to increase public awareness of the importance of positive parenting patterns in shaping healthy child development.

Abstract

This study investigated into the connection between learning motivation and mothers’ democratic parenting styles, exploring their impact on adolescent learning behaviors through a correlational quantitative approach. The research involved a sample of 216 high school students from Manado Independent School, carefully selected using simple random sampling. Data was gathered through the distribution of questionnaires, including the Learning Motivation Questionnaire, the Parenting Style and Dimension Questionnaire (PSDQ) for Adolescents, and the Learning Behaviors Scale, which provided valuable insights into the dynamics at play. The data obtained were analyzed using multiple linear regression techniques. The results of the partial regression analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between learning motivation and learning behaviors, with a regression coefficient of 0.400 and a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05). In contrast, the democratic parenting style showed no significant contribution to learning behaviors, as evidenced by a regression coefficient of -0.07 and a significance value of 0.770 (p>0.05). Overall, the findings of the study revealed a significant simultaneous contribution of both learning motivation and mothers’ democratic parenting styles to adolescent learning behaviors. With a coefficient of determination of 0.653 and a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05), the results highlighted that these factors played a crucial role in enhancing learning behaviors. This, in turn, holds the potential to improve academic performance and overall learning outcomes among adolescents.

Abstract

Marriage satisfaction is a complex interplay of various factors, encompassing sexual dynamics, communication patterns, and individual personality traits. However, within the cultural context of Indonesia, empirical research examining these dynamics is notably scarce. This study endeavors to fill this void by delving into the intricate relationships among sexual imagination, communication styles, personality traits, and marital satisfaction among 254 married individuals in Indonesia. Employing a cross-sectional design, data were gathered through online surveys utilizing validated instruments, including the International Index of Erectile Function, the Female Sexual Function Index, the Sexual Daydreaming Scale, the Dyadic Sexual Communication Scale, and the Interpersonal Exchange Model of Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire. Through statistical analysis, the study unveils compelling insights into the dynamics shaping marital contentment in the Indonesian context. The findings illuminate a nuanced landscape: a negative correlation emerges between sexual fantasies and marital satisfaction, indicating a potential tension between individual fantasies and conjugal fulfillment. Conversely, positive correlations are observed between effective sexual communication and certain personality traits (such as openness and empathy) with marital satisfaction, emphasizing the pivotal role of transparent dialogue and interpersonal qualities in fostering marital harmony. These findings hold significant implications for marital counseling and intervention strategies tailored to the Indonesian cultural context. By acknowledging and addressing the nuanced dynamics of sexual imagination, communication, and personality traits within marriages, practitioners can better support the well-being of married couples in Indonesia, ultimately contributing to stronger and more fulfilling marital relationships..

Abstract

Pedophiles, individuals who are sexually attracted to children, are regarded as child-molesters. This stigma incites hate and discrimination towards them, even those who have not and committed themselves to not harm children. Thus, understanding and challenging this stigma is important to help them. In this study, we explored the experience of members of Virtuous Pedophiles, an online support group and the preferred identity for pedophiles who are against sexual activity between adults and children. Narrative literature review and thematic analyses were conducted on Gary Gibson’s book titled Virtuous Pedophiles. Virtuous Pedophiles, unfortunately, encounter problems in their daily life, yet they choose to acknowledge and share their sexual orientation with loved ones. They also develop various strategies to protect themselves and children from any form of molestation. They build boundaries in interacting with children, avoid situations involving children, and use fantasy in the form of pornography and masturbation to satisfy their sexual needs without harming children. They hope the stigma on pedophiles is reduced and one day, they can live comfortably by receiving help and support from others and mental health practitioners. Despite acknowledging their sexual orientation, they are still experiencing difficulties in fully accepting themselves due to the stigmatization experienced from others and concerns about their own future. This also hinders them in reaching out for help from professional services to manage their overall wellbeing. As mental health practitioners, we are encouraged to focus more on their psychological distress and then devise strategies that might help improve their daily functioning.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the resilience in Timorese postpartum mothers who live the Neno Bo'ha tradition, which is a custom that requires mothers to undergo a postpartum recovery period in ume k'bubu (round house). This tradition is believed to provide long-term benefits for the health of mothers and babies, but on the other hand it also brings considerable physical and psychological challenges. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, which allows to explore the subjective experience of postpartum mothers in depth. The participants in this study are the primipara postpartum mothers of the Timorese tribe who are undergoing the Neno Bo'ha period in a round house. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observations to understand their adaptation process and resilience in facing the challenges of living this tradition. The results of the study showed that the postpartum mothers of the Timor tribe had a very good level of resilience. This can be seen from their ability to manage emotions, control impulses, maintain optimism, and take advantage of social support from family and society. Compliance with customs is a major factor in their resilience, although these traditions provide physical discomfort, such as heat, smoke, and pain arising from certain rituals. Support from family and community also played an important role in shaping their resilience during Neno Bo'ha's time.

Abstract

The Quran Education Park (TPQ) plays a vital role in accustoming children's behavior to become moral individuals with Koranic character and making the Al-Quran their guide for life. However, the results of field observations show that the discipline of students at TPQ is low. One way to foster discipline in children is by giving consequences as extrinsic reinforcement for their behavior; one form of reinforcement is the token economy. This research aims to determine the influence of the token economy on improving TPQ students' discipline. This research uses a quantitative approach with experimental research methods; the sample is 20 children, and data analysis uses the Paired Sample t-test technique. The results of the paired sample t-test are 0.000 < 0.05, which shows the significant influence of implementing the token economy in improving the disciplinary attitudes of TPQ students. Apart from that, there was an increase in the average score between the pre-test and post-test of 4.30.
