Abstract

This study was motivated by the low Mathematics achievement of fifth-grade students at SDN 3 Mataram. From the sample data of students' Mathematics scores, 51.35% (19 out of 37 students) scored below the minimum competency standard (KKM) of 70, with a class average score of 68.37. The research aimed to determine whether the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model could improve Mathematics learning outcomes on geometry topics for fifth-grade students at SDN 3 Mataram during the 2022/2023 academic year. The classroom action research was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of the stages of planning, implementing actions, observation, evaluation, and reflection. Data collection methods included learning outcome tests and observation. In Cycle I, the average student learning outcome was 69.19, with a mastery percentage of 71.87%. The teacher activity score in implementing the PBL model was 35, categorized as good, and the student activity score was 34, categorized as active. In Cycle II, there was an improvement: the average student learning outcome increased to 71.48, with a mastery percentage of 84.37%. The teacher activity score rose to 43, categorized as very good, and the student activity score increased to 46, categorized as very active. The findings indicate that the application of the Problem-Based Learning model can effectively enhance Mathematics learning outcomes on geometry topics for fifth-grade students. The implications of this study suggest that PBL can be a valuable instructional approach to address low Mathematics achievement and foster active learning. Educators are encouraged to integrate PBL in their teaching strategies, particularly for challenging mathematical concepts, to improve both student engagement and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigates the treatment and role of children in research practices in Indonesia. Using a content analysis of six research-based articles, this study aims to understand the current state of involving children in research in Indonesia. The articles were selected based on three criteria: the focus of child research, the disciplines of research, and the availability of English language versions. The content analysis was carried out by systematically examining how each article addressed ethical considerations, participant involvement, and the research methodologies employed, particularly in relation to children as research participants. The findings show that researchers often fail to provide adequate treatment for child participants and tend to treat them similarly to adult participants throughout the research process. Additionally, children's involvement in research is not always voluntary, as evidenced by the lack of informed consent or consent from adult guardians, posing a risk to their safety and well-being. To address these issues, this study highlights the need for ethical guidelines that encompass specific aspects, such as obtaining genuine informed consent, safeguarding child welfare during research, and respecting children's unique vulnerabilities and rights. Existing frameworks like UNICEF's Ethical Research Involving Children (ERIC) guidelines or international research ethics codes could be adapted to the Indonesian context. Other relevant research institutions, such as the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, universities, and research communities, must also establish these guidelines to ensure ethical standards are upheld in research with children.

Abstract

Ethnomathematics is the mathematics embedded in a culture or understood as a discipline used to understand how mathematics is adapted from a culture. The purpose of this study is to determine (1) What symmetry patterns are present in Nitik batik? and (2) What philosophical meanings are associated with the symmetry patterns in Nitik batik? These are specifically referenced for students, particularly in the context of teaching transformation geometry, by incorporating cultural elements, namely the Nitik batik motifs from Yogyakarta. Ethnomathematics, as a medium for teaching mathematics, also aims to introduce and preserve Indonesia's cultural heritage. This study employs a descriptive research method with a qualitative approach. The data used to answer the research questions were obtained from document studies, including books, journals, and internet sources. Data analysis was performed using qualitative data analysis techniques, which include three main steps: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study reveal that in the Nitik batik of Bantul Yogyakarta, the Jaya Kirana motif features geometric patterns of reflection and translation.

Abstract

Education provides provisions for navigating life, with education as its main foundation. Interaction between teachers and students is very important in the learning process to create effective communication. Learning strategies are efforts made in learning to achieve goals effectively and efficiently. Learning strategies are increasingly diverse and innovative along with the development of science and technology. One of the learning strategies used is the expository learning strategy, which focuses on the delivery of material verbally from the teacher to students to ensure comprehensive understanding and achievement of the expected learning objectives. This study uses a qualitative method, where researchers conduct descriptive analysis. The descriptive analysis method is carried out by the process of pouring out explanations and descriptions as clearly as possible in an integrated, critical, objective and analytical manner about "The relevance of using expository learning strategies in teaching and learning activities in schools". This study aims to determine the relevance of expository learning strategies in achieving learning objectives. Through this study, it is expected to provide benefits for teachers and students in choosing the right learning strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the Youtube Shorts feature with regular Youtube videos in teaching Arabic vocabulary. The research design employed is a literature review, where data were collected from various scholarly articles, research reports, and other relevant sources related to the utilization of both Youtube features in the learning context. Data analysis was conducted descriptively to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each feature based on aspects such as display design, time flexibility, and material accessibility. The results show that Youtube Shorts excels in capturing attention through interactive short videos but has limitations in delivering complex materials. Conversely, regular Youtube videos provide flexibility for more in-depth content delivery but require longer viewing times. This study recommends the synergistic use of both features, tailored to learning objectives and audience preferences, to enhance the effectiveness of Arabic vocabulary learning. Future studies are expected to conduct direct experiments with specific subjects to empirically evaluate learning outcomes.

Abstract

This article explores the relationship between personality and student learning motivation through a literature review approach, also known as library research. This method involves reading, analyzing, and comparing various literature sources, including research reports, academic journals, papers, books, and other relevant references, without requiring fieldwork. The study discusses several key aspects: the concept of personality; factors determining personality; personality patterns; the concept of learning motivation; factors influencing learning motivation; the objectives of providing motivation; indicators of student learning motivation; and the relationship between personality and student learning motivation. The findings of this study provide insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers into the importance of understanding personality traits to enhance students' learning motivation. By tailoring teaching strategies to align with different personality patterns, educators can foster a more engaging and supportive learning environment. Furthermore, the study highlights the need for educational interventions that address both personality development and motivational factors, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of student academic performance and personal growth.
