Abstract

This study aims to explore how to optimize ship maneuvers when traversing the Barito River's small shipping channel in bad weather.  Researchers have observed that when a ship turns through a bend in the narrow Barito River channel, particularly in inclement weather, there are frequently hazards or undesirable things that occur. This is because the duty chief on board failed to pay attention to the direction and strength of the current, which caused the ship's stern to be carried away by the current, closing the channel. This study's qualitative descriptive methodology is based on facts experienced by the researchers on board and generates data directly from the research location.  Direct interviews with research participants, literature and documentation studies, and observation are the methods used in this instance to get data about the object.  According to the findings of this study, ship movements during inclement weather while traversing the Barito River's tight channel at SPB. LAIS. Manoeuvring errors resulting from the duty chief's carelessness are the primary reason of the ship's difficulties.  In order to ensure that the voyage proceeds safely, effectively, and efficiently, the researcher recommends that the duty chief be more cautious while on duty and learn the proper technique for crossing the Barito River to prevent navigation dangers.

Abstract

The main engine Lubricating Oil (LO) standby pump is crucial for smooth ship operations. Therefore, it is essential that this equipment is well-maintained. However, future problems can arise and disrupt ship operations if the maintenance schedule is not followed. The main engine lubrication system can be disrupted due to a damaged L.O. standby pump, which can interfere with the smooth lubrication of the main engine. Based on field observation during a 12-month and 2-day sea project on board MT. Klawotong, the researcher experienced overheating of the L.O. standby pump. When the ship entered bad weather on the voyage from Wayame to Tual, it disrupted the crew's comfort on board while working. The purpose of this research is to determine the causal factors, the impact of overheating on the pump, and efforts to prevent overheating of the L.O. pump. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method by conducting interviews and direct field observations. Data analysis technique using SHEL (Software, Hardware, Environment and Liveware). By interviewing the Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineer, and 4th Engineer, this study states that overheating of the main engine L.O. standby pump is caused by a damaged rubber coupling, a damaged oil seal, and abnormal vibration in the pump. The impact of these factors will reduce pump performance, reduce lubrication in the main engine, and reduce pump performance. Preventive measures can be done by implementing routine maintenance on the pump and cleaning the oil filter regularly. Abstract

This study examines the effect of temperature and pressure at the cargo heater on the flow rate of LPG during the discharge and loading process on the LPG tanker ship. The main problem is the freezing of LPG (propane and butane) in cold climates which hinders the smooth flow and slows down the discharge and loading process. The research objective is to analyze the effectiveness of heating through cargo heater in reducing the viscosity of LPG and to identify the dominant factors that affect the flow speed. The method used is causal quantitative with multiple linear regression analysis, supported by direct observation data during the discharge and loading process and data processing through statistical software. The results showed that pressure partially had a significant effect on increasing flow rate, while temperature showed no significant effect partially. However, temperature and pressure variables were simultaneously shown to increase LPG flow rate. The conclusion of the study states that proper pressure regulation with adequate temperature support is the key to the efficiency of the discharge and loading process. The implication of the research is the optimization of cargo heater design based on pressure regulation to improve operational performance on gas tankers.
