Abstract

The phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) is one of the psychological impacts frequently experienced by adolescents in the digital era, along with the increasing use of social media such as TikTok. This study aims to examine the relationship between the intensity of TikTok use and FOMO among eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara. The research employed a quantitative correlational approach with purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was tested for validity and reliability, and all items were found to be valid and reliable (α > 0.70). Normality testing indicated that the data were not normally distributed (p < 0.05), so the analysis was conducted using Spearman’s rho correlation test. The results showed a significant positive relationship between TikTok usage intensity and FOMO (rs = 0.590; p = 0.000). This means that the higher the students’ intensity in using TikTok, the higher their level of FOMO. These findings highlight the importance of digital literacy education and guidance from both parents and schools to ensure that adolescents can use social media wisely without causing psychological pressure.

Abstract

Basically, students face numerous demands, both academic and non-academic. However, vocational high school (SMK) students differ slightly from general high school (SMA) students, as SMK students are expected to master practical skills and competencies relevant to the workforce, in addition to possessing adequate supporting knowledge. Due to the multitude of demands, SMK students, in particular, are prone to experiencing academic stress. Therefore, high academic resilience is required to overcome academic stress, which could otherwise hinder students' ability to adapt to future industry demands. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of group counseling using the WDEP technique in enhancing students' academic resilience. The research was conducted on eleventh-grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Samarinda. This study employed an experimental research design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, in which a single group served as the experimental group receiving group counseling treatment using the WDEP technique. Purposive sampling was used to select eight students as participants in the group counseling sessions. Data analysis was performed using parametric statistics, specifically the paired sample t-test and N-Gain Score test, with the aid of SPSS 26 software. The results indicated a significant improvement in students' academic resilience levels, with the average score increasing from 96.75 in the pretest to 147.625 in the posttest. Hypothesis testing revealed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), and the N-Gain Score analysis yielded a result of 51.157%, indicating that reality group counseling with the WDEP technique is effective in improving students' academic resilience.

Abstract

This study aims to examine ethnographic methods as a relevant and in-depth qualitative approach to understanding phenomena in education and counseling. Using a literature review method, the research analyzes various scholarly sources discussing the definition, characteristics, historical development, philosophical foundations, and benefits of ethnographic research, including its application in educational contexts. The findings indicate that ethnography emphasizes the researcher’s direct engagement in the cultural context of participants to capture deep social meaning. This approach is grounded in the philosophical perspectives of empiricism, social constructivism, and humanism, which view social reality as a co-constructed phenomenon and emphasize the importance of participants’ subjective understanding. In the field of education and counseling, ethnography has proven effective in uncovering local values and cultural practices that shape interaction dynamics in school environments. Practical examples include studies on school culture in character education and the exploration of counseling values within local traditions such as Bau Nyale in Lombok. Moreover, recent developments highlight the rise of virtual ethnography and netnography as responses to the digital transformation of society. In conclusion, ethnographic research not only provides a holistic understanding of culture but also offers practical contributions to the design of educational and counseling interventions that are contextual, inclusive, and rooted in local wisdom.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of classical guidance and content mastery services on reducing peer conformity behavior among students. Excessive conformity to peer pressure can hinder personal development and decision-making abilities. Therefore, intervention through guidance and counseling (GC) services is considered strategic in fostering student autonomy and resistance to social pressure. This associative quantitative research involved 15 Grade XI-AK students from SMK Negeri 1 Lahomi, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using partial regression (t-test) and simultaneous regression (F-test). The results show that both classical GC services (t = 3.310, p = 0.003) and content mastery services (t = 3.412, p = 0.004) have a significant partial effect on reducing peer conformity. Simultaneously, both variables also demonstrated a significant effect (F = 5.388, p = 0.021), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.573, indicating that 57.3% of the variance in peer conformity behavior can be explained by the two services. These findings highlight the importance of structured GC services in promoting student independence, critical thinking, and resilience against negative peer influence.

Abstract

Academic procrastination is often associated with a form of laziness within the educational context. This issue requires immediate intervention to enable students to minimize, or ideally eliminate, such behavior. This study aims to examine the level of academic procrastination among students at SMP Negeri 2 O’o’u. A quantitative method was employed using a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Experimental Design, involving a single group of participants assessed before and after receiving a treatment. The pretest measured the participants’ initial condition, while the posttest evaluated the impact of the intervention. The sample was selected through purposive sampling, with class XI-B serving as the research subject. Data were collected using an academic procrastination questionnaire and analyzed by comparing pretest and posttest scores. The findings revealed a pretest score of 132.72% and a posttest score of 47.70%, indicating a reduction of 85.03 points. These results demonstrate that group counseling using the reality therapy approach is effective in reducing students’ academic procrastination. When implemented by school counselors following appropriate stages, this intervention tends to yield optimal outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the extent of the influence of brainstorming techniques in group guidance services on student learning motivation at SMP Negeri 4 Palopo. The background comes from the low motivation of students to learn which can be seen from the lack of participation in the learning process, lack of interest in the subject matter, and the tendency to be passive in the classroom. Through participatory approaches such as brainstorming, students are given the space to express their ideas, opinions and experiences freely without fear of being judged, which is expected to increase their enthusiasm and engagement in learning. This study used a quantitative method with a one group pretest-posttest quasi experimental design. A sample of 20 students was purposively selected based on the level of motivation which was classified as low to moderate. Data were collected using a learning motivation questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed with the Paired Sample T-Test test through the SPSS program. The results showed a significant increase in student learning motivation after being given the treatment, with an average pretest score of 41 which increased to 51.35 in the posttest, and a significance value of 0.000. These results prove that the brainstorming technique is effective in increasing students' learning motivation and can be an alternative group guidance service strategy.
