Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the Joyful Learning method in drum lessons at Favore Music and to identify effective strategies in increasing student motivation and engagement. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a participatory method, this study involved four drum students at Favore Music, Bandung City, through observation, structured interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through processes of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while method triangulation was applied to ensure research validity. The results showed that the application of Joyful Learning through rhythmic exploration, improvisation, and dynamic interaction was able to significantly increase student engagement. Learning strategies such as the use of backing tracks, variations in sticking exercises with various objects, and the challenge of tempo changes and fill-ins create a more interactive and enjoyable learning experience. This approach not only deepens students' musical understanding but also increases their confidence and consistency in practicing. This study contributes to innovation in private music education and provides new insights into the effectiveness of experiential learning in improving the quality of drum learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a statistical formula for the readability of Indonesian texts by modifying the Gunning Fog Index (GFI) formula. GFI is one of the objective readability statistics with a syntactic approach. The GFI formula is used to measure the readability of text based on the calculation of the number of words, sentences and complex words. The underlying theory is that a good text is a text that is appropriate or easily understood by its target readers. The level of text readability is influenced by the syntactic complexity in the text. The research method used is R&D (Research and Development). The formula is made online using Google Sheets so that the link can be accessed by the public. The developed formula uses complex word count criteria that have been adapted from the Gunning Fog Index formula. The basis of this modification is that the original GFI criteria is based on English text which is different from Indonesian text. This formula was tested using the same text sample as the text sample used by previous researchers. Data dianalisis dengan perhitungan GFI untuk jumlah kata kompleks dalam kalima. The results of this study show a more detailed difference in the Gunning Fox index. In addition, this formula provides more detailed and informative calculations that make it easier for users to analyze the readability of Indonesian texts. This study's findings provide an improved tool for evaluating the readability of Indonesian texts, offering educators, writers, and literacy enthusiast a more accurate and accessible method to assess and enhance text comprehension for Indonesian readers.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze challenges faced by sixth-grade students in acquiring academic vocabulary at Lukmanulhakeem School Southern Thailand, as well as formulate strategies that can support the improvement of their vocabulary acquisition. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, utilizing a narrative inquiry design to explore students' experiences and perspectives in academic vocabulary acquisition. This approach was chosen for its ability to capture and analyze personal narratives across temporal and contextual dimensions, thereby providing a comprehensive understanding of the challenges encountered by students. The study involved 42 students from two classes, 6(1) and 6(2). Data were collected through preliminary observations, in-depth interviews, and an analysis of instructional documents. The data analysis technique in this study uses a narrative inquiry design, which includes transcription of data from observations, interviews, documentation, and field notes to ensure the accuracy of the information.  The findings indicate that key barriers to vocabulary acquisition include cultural background, socioeconomic conditions, individual differences, and instructional strategies. Additionally, limited access to learning resources among students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds negatively impacts their vocabulary development. This study highlights the importance of context-based teaching methods and the integration of technology as effective strategies for overcoming students' difficulties in acquiring academic vocabulary. These findings contribute to the development of more effective instructional approaches for teaching academic vocabulary at the elementary school level.
