Abstract

The COVID 19 pandemic has affected living systems around the world; one of them is in the education system. It has led to the complete closure of schools, universities and colleges around the world. In response to this situation, many schools, universities and colleges are encouraged to use distance learning programs and open education applications and platforms in which schools and teachers can use these platforms to reach students remotely and limit educational interruptions. In this research, the website (www.er-central.com) was used as one of the distance learning programs for extensive listening by EFL students. This research aims to determine whether there is an effect of websites used by English language learners on the global spread of the COVID 19 pandemic. In this research, the reserchers used quantitative research in pre-experimental method design using one group of pre-tests and post-tests.. In pre-experimental research design, the researcher used concept one group Pre-test and Post-test for the third semester in university. The result of the data analysis indicated that there was significant difference of student’ test before and after being taught by using website. It can be said that there is a significant difference of student’s score after the treatment. It means that the website used is effective and can be used as a distance learning program for extensive listening in pandemic situations.

Abstract

This research aimed  to find the problems that students did in answering TOEFL especially in listening section. The research used descriptive qualitative approach. For the data collection, it used the instrument is interview.  The subjects of the research were non english department students in seventh grade of FIKES Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta. To analyze the data, it was through the techniques: data collection, data display, data reduction, and conclusion drawing.  25 seventh semester students of Nursing Study Program participated in this study selected by using random sampling techniques. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. The results of this research indicate that the difficulties experienced by students based on the the interview are difficultiy in their concentration while listening, difficulty regarding vocabulary meaning, difficulty in catching meaning in long and speed conversation, and difficulty in recognizing unfamiliar topic.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to know the effect of using Ganze Method is effective to be used on the Eight Grade Students’ Reading Comprehension at SMPN 16 Kota Tangerang. Ganze Method is a method of teaching reading comprehension that gives the opportunities to the students to outline and translate the text by the students own words. Reading comprehension is complex highly process that increases students’ knowledge, the context of the text, and expectation by interaction between the students. Ganze method applied in teaching reading could be an effective method. It was very helpful for the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension. The method used in this research was quantitative method. The design of this research was quasi - experiment to know the effectiveness of using Ganze method on the students’ reading comprehension. The result can be seen that using Ganze Method as the method is effective on the students’ reading comprehension. It could be seen from the average of post - test result in Experimental Class was 80.98, and the average of pre-test was 61.25. The average of post-test result in controlled class was 67.42, and the average of pre-test was 60.11. The result of the t – test of post-test also showed that there was a significant difference between experimental and control class, t – count of ɑ = 5% and dƒ = 68 was 4.92, and for t – table was 1.99. The calculation proved that t-count was higher than t-table. It can be concluded that Ganze method can be considered to use for teaching reading comprehension since it can expand the students’ knowledge and information with the text easily.

Abstract

This research aim to find out the correlation between students’ confidence level and their speaking skill on the eigth grade students of SMP YAPIPA. The research was conducted at SMP YAPIPA, the subject of this research was the students on the eigth grade in class VIII A have 31 students and  VIII B have 34 students. The total of the respondents are 65 students. In this research the researcher used quantitative survey research. Technique collecting data in this research with using quesionnaries confidence level consist of 64 questions and monologue for speaking test. The regression significance test it cound be seen that the score of F were 0.342 and the significant were 0.561, the df 1:63 = 64 (4.00) in significant 5% the explanation 0.342< 0.561. The result of tobserve was about 0.589 and ttable result were 1.99. If the result (0.561 < 1.99) means there is no significant correlation between students’ confidence level and speaking skill.Keyword:       Students’ confidence level, Speaking Skill, Monologue Speaking test

Abstract

AbstractThe research is aimed to investigate whether there is an effect of the Boggle game on vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at MTs. Nurul Hikmah. The design used was quasi-experimental method with Nonequivalent control group design. The subject of population in this research is seventh-grade students of MTs Nurul Hikmah. The sample of this research were 60 students, who were classified into 30 students of experimental class and 30 students of controlled class. The technique of collecting data with used the research instrument was a test consisting of a pre-test and post-test. The results of thisresearch stated that the used of Boggle games in learning vocabulary affected students' vocabulary mastery. This can be seen from the t-test results of pre-test and post-test at a significance level of 5% (0.05) alpha and degrees of freedom of 2.00, where the t-count of pre-test is higher than the t-table (2.03 > 2.00) with the average pre-test score of the experimental class was higher than the average pre-test score of the control class (49.47 > 42.60) and the t-count of post-test is higher than the t-table (5.75> 2.00) with the average post-test score of the experimental class was higher than the average pre-test score of the control class (83.50 > 73.10). It can be concluded that there is significant effect of Boggle game on the seventh grade students’ vocabulary mastery at MTs. Nurul Hikmah. It means that the Boggle game is effective in learning vocabulary mastery for the seventh-grade students of MTs Nurul Hikmah. By using the Boggle game, the teaching and learning process becomes more interesting. Key words: Boggle Game, Vocabulary Mastery.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to give information and clear explanation about the use of self assessment in teaching writing process.. This research uses the descriptive qualitative research. The population of this research is all students of fifth semester for english study program in Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang.semester  academic 2019/2020 consisting of four parallel classes namely class 5a1, 5a2, 5a3,and 4b1. Based on the research finding, it can be concluded that self assessment is effective in teaching writing self-assessment in writing learning (writing) aims to encourage students to reflect themselves on students' writing abilities. Self-assessment encourages students to think about the purpose of why students learn to write, and to know what and how they learn. And for the teacher should implement it in their class and it still needs further research in order to develop scientific references. Key words: Self Assessment, Writing

Abstract

This research identifies students’ lexical errors in translating English text into Indonesian at Open University (Universitas Terbuka). The lexicon is essential in a translation. A good and acceptable translation should be able to successfully render the message of the source language into the target language by using the appropriate lexicon. The incorrect lexical choice will distort the source language's message. A translation test was administered to 35 students as part of the data collection process. The finding shows some students wrongly order the word in a sentence as the  result  of  word  by  word  translation  and  they  translate  it  using  dictionary and translation  machine like  Google  translate  so  that  it  still  has  errors  in  sentence  or  word. In addition, some of the students translate English text into Indonesian word by word. So that the translation did not correspond with the meaning of the text. Even though they used a dictionary, but they did not understand the text perfectly.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know and analyze the deductive and inductive approaches in teaching grammar used by english teachers at SMPN 2 Kota Tangerang. The researchers used descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research were collected through the observation of teaching and learning activities in the classroom of four english teachers at SMPN 2 Kota Tangerang. The result of the research showed that the four english teachers used either deductive approach or inductive approach, it can be seen from the way they were teaching, they chose and used either deductive approach or inductive seen by the steps that implemented by the teacher in teaching grammar, the role  of teacher and students in the teaching and learning activities. The three of four English teachers at SMPN 2 Kota Tangerang used or applied deductive approach in the classroom and one of them still used and applied inductive one. As for the used of an approach, the researchers got a result of the dominance approach used by the English teachers at SMPN 2 Kota Tangerang was deductive.
