Abstract

This study aims to develop a Pop-Up Book as a learning medium to increase students' reading interest in Indonesian language lessons, specifically in folktale material for third-grade students at SDN JIA. The background of this research is the low reading interest among students, which is caused by the lack of engaging instructional media. This research adopts the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The Pop-Up Book media was developed and validated by material and media experts, with validation results showing it to be highly feasible—100% from media experts and 86.6% from material experts. The trials were conducted in two phases: small-group and large- group trials. Teacher responses to the media reached 100%, while student responses were categorized as very practical, with results of 80.5% in the small group and 92.8% in the large group. The effectiveness of the media was tested through pretest and posttest assessments, showing an increase in scores from 35.7% to 92.1%. The N-Gain score was 0.87, which falls into the high category. These results indicate that the Pop-Up Book media is effective in improving the reading interest of third-grade students at SDN JIA. Therefore, the Pop-Up Book can be considered an innovative alternative in teaching folktales in primary school Indonesian language lessons.

Abstract

The RADEC (Read–Answer–Discuss–Explain–Create) learning model is oneapproach designed to improve the quality of 21st century learning through activestudent involvement. However, in practice, not all teachers understand thedifferences between the RADEC model and conventional learning. This study aimsto describe the perceptions of elementary school teachers towards the RADECmodel as a basis for developing learning tools. The study used a descriptivequalitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The subjects of the study consisted of teachersin several elementary schools who were or were not familiar with the RADECmodel. The results of the study showed that most teachers did not fully understandthe structure of the RADEC stages, and were not able to distinguish the context ofRADEC from ordinary learning. In addition, variations were found in theinterpretation and application of RADEC which were influenced by limited trainingand socialization. These findings indicate the need for ongoing training anddevelopment of learning tools, such as Student Worksheets (LKPD), which refer tothe principles of RADEC consistently and applicatively. This study provides animportant basis for designing learning development that is in accordance with theneeds of teachers in the field.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the factors that cause elementary students' beginning reading difficulties and teachers' efforts in overcoming them, with a case study at SD Negeri Triwidadi. The research method used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included the principal, first grade teacher, and students. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity testing through triangulation of techniques and sources. The results showed that early reading difficulties were caused by internal and external factors. Internal factors include low motivation, concentration problems, and fear and lack of confidence. Meanwhile, external factors include lack of parental support, unsupportive environment, and less varied learning methods. To overcome this, teachers apply various strategies, such as individual guidance, repetition of material, use of interesting media, and collaboration with parents. The success of these efforts relies heavily on cooperation between teachers, students and families. This study concludes that a holistic approach, involving the roles of teachers, students and parents, is essential in overcoming early reading difficulties. Recommendations from this study are the need to increase the variety of learning methods and strengthen communication between schools and parents.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using concrete media to improvestudent learning outcomes in the topic of three-dimensional shapes amongsecond-grade students at SDN Bangunrejo Lor 1, Pitu District. This researchemployed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design of the OneGroup Pretest-Posttest type. Data were collected through multiple-choice testsadministered before and after the treatment. Data analysis was carried out usingSPSS version 26, applying the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and the pairedsample t-test for hypothesis testing. The results showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-count of 11.856 > t-table value of 2.045, indicating asignificant difference between pretest and posttest scores. These findings suggestthat the use of concrete media effectively enhances students’ understanding andlearning outcomes. Observations in the classroom revealed that many studentsencountered difficulties in grasping the abstract concepts of three-dimensionalshapes due to the dominance of teacher-centered learning and the lack ofengaging instructional media. The use of concrete media, such as three-dimensional teaching aids, provides visual and tangible representations ofgeometric concepts, making it easier for students to comprehend the material. Inaddition, this approach fosters greater student engagement, motivation, and activeparticipation in the learning process. Therefore, it is recommended that concretemedia be incorporated into mathematics instruction to create a more interactiveand meaningful learning environment.
