Abstract

This research was motivated by the low level of student activeness and learning outcomes in chemistry, specifically on Atomic Structure material at SMAN 13 Medan. The learning process applied was predominantly conventional and teacher-centered (teacher centred), causing students to become passive and unmotivated. This study aims to improve student activeness and learning outcomes through the cooperative learning model Teams Games Tournament (TGT) on Atomic Structure material. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Subjects were 36 students of class X-1 SMAN 13 Medan in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through multiple-choice test instruments to measure cognitive learning outcomes and non-test instruments (observation sheets) to measure student activeness and teacher performance. Descriptive comparative analysis was used to compare improvements from pre-cycle to the second cycle. Results showed that the average N-Gain increased from 0.47 (moderate) in Cycle I to 0.76 (high) in Cycle II. The percentage of students achieving the minimum passing grade (KKM) rose from 47% in Cycle I to 76% in Cycle II. It is concluded that the TGT cooperative learning model is effective in improving student activeness and learning outcomes on Atomic Structure material

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low chemistry learning outcomes of students on the Mole Concept material at SMA Negeri 2 Percut Sei Tuan. The Mole Concept, which is abstract and complex in nature, is often considered difficult and boring by students, compounded by the use of one-directional conventional learning methods that make students passive and less motivated. To address this problem, an innovation was carried out through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with video media. This study aims to improve student learning outcomes on the Mole Concept material through the implementation of the PBL model. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, where each cycle consists of four main stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research subjects were 35 students of class XI-C at SMA Negeri 2 Percut Sei Tuan for the 2025/2026 academic year. Data collection instruments included learning outcome tests (pretest and posttest) to measure students' cognitive competence, and observation sheets to monitor student activities and teacher performance. The results showed that the application of the PBL model integrated with video media significantly improved student learning outcomes, with classical completeness reaching 85% or more in cycle II and the average N-Gain score in the moderate to high category.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the crossword puzzle strategy in Social Studies (IPS) learning for grade IV elementary school students and to evaluate its impact on increasing student learning interest. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with a single case study method. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with one Social Studies teacher (G01) and one student (S01), as well as a learning interest questionnaire distributed to 14 grade IV students (S02–S15) at SDN 28 Pasa Rabaa. The questionnaire was developed based on Rahmawati's learning interest indicators, covering: (a) feeling of pleasure in learning, (b) interest in the material, (c) attention in the learning process, and (d) active student involvement. Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana interactive analysis model. The results showed that the implementation of the crossword puzzle strategy was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Based on questionnaire data, all four indicators of learning interest showed high to very high categories (76%–93%), indicating a significant positive impact. This strategy is effective in creating interactive, enjoyable, and student-centered learning. These findings are expected to enrich teachers' repertoire of active learning strategies, particularly in IPS learning at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Satua Bali (Balinese traditional oral stories) in developing 21st century competencies in elementary school education. Using a systematic literature review method, this study analyzes peer-reviewed journals, books, and policy documents related to traditional oral literature, 21st century skills, and local wisdom-based education. The findings reveal that Satua Bali contains rich narrative structures that effectively support the development of critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills (4Cs), which are the core of 21st century competencies. The integration of Satua Bali in elementary school education serves as a culturally responsive pedagogical approach that simultaneously strengthens students' cultural identity and builds the cognitive and social competencies required in the modern era. Key challenges include limited teacher capacity in utilizing oral literary traditions, the absence of structured curriculum frameworks, and the decreasing familiarity of students with Balinese oral tradition. This study recommends the systematic integration of Satua Bali through projectbased learning, storytelling activities, and character education programs within the Merdeka Curriculum framework.

Abstract

Abstract

Tradition and culture shape the identity of Indonesia's ethnically diverse society, with Grebeg Suro in Kediri, East Java, a lasting local wisdom. Celebrated every 1 Suro in the Javanese calendar, this tradition is rooted in the acculturation of ancient Javanese spiritual values and Islamic teachings dating back to the 15th century. This tradition serves as an expression of gratitude to God, respect for ancestors, and an effort to ward off disasters to maintain harmony in life. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach through participatory observation of the ritual procession and in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, organizers, and local communities, to explore the cultural phenomenon in depth from a local perspective. The research results show that the implementation of Grebeg Suro involves a series of activities such as processions, meditation, grave pilgrimages, and traditional art performances (shadow puppets, jaranan, barongan), which are not only ceremonial but also rich in symbolic meaning. Spiritually, this tradition encourages introspection and self-purification; socially, it strengthens cooperation and solidarity. Amidst modernization, Grebeg Suro functions as a cultural resistance against the erosion of local values, strengthening national identity through the transmission of ethical values across generations.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the implementation of project-based learning (PjBL) in improving students' critical thinking skills at SD Tutul 02 Jember and understanding the dynamics of motivation and collaboration that accompany it. The phenomenon studied stems from the low analytical skills of students due to the dominance of rote-based learning in the context of rural elementary schools. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, which allows in-depth exploration of the learning process in real situations. Data was collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with teachers and students, as well as documentation in the form of reflection journals, project results, and school archives. The research participants involved 10 fifth grade students with low critical thinking abilities and one science teacher as the learning implementer. The research results showed three main themes: (1) PjBL encourages students' cognitive involvement through contextual project activities based on the local environment; (2) learning motivation increases because students feel they have an active role in the learning process; and (3) group collaboration strengthens inference and evaluation skills through discussion and joint problem solving. These findings indicate that PjBL not only improves learning outcomes, but also changes learning interaction patterns from passive to participatory and reflective.
