Abstract

Nurses are at risk of stress due to having important duties in health services; therefore, stress coping is very important to maintain mental health and workability. The study was to determine the coping mechanism of stress based on age, gender, level of education, and length of service in nurses at Naimata Psychiatric Hospital. This research was descriptive. The population included all nurses of 75 people. The sample of 43 nurses was taken by applying a simple random sampling technique. The instrument used was a Likert-scale questionnaire. The results showed that 58.1% of nurses used maladaptive coping mechanisms. The age range of 26-35 years and being male tended to do maladaptive coping mechanisms for 53.5% and 34.9%, respectively. In addition, nurses with DIII and work service of <3 years were likely to do maladaptive coping mechanisms, namely 71.4% and 34.9%, respectively. Nurses need to take stress management training and access information to manage their stress.

Abstract

Premarital sexual behavior practice is deviant behavior that negatively affects the lives of teenagers; however, many teenagers are engaged in this behavior due to a lack of knowledge related to its causes and effects. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with premarital sexual behavior in adolescents. This research was an analytic survey with a cross-sectional design and was conducted at SMK Negeri Z Kupang with a sample of 322 students. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The result showed that knowledge of reproductive health (p-value= 0.006), attitude (p-value= 0.000), parenting style (p-value= 0.0060, peers (p-value= 0.001), and social media (p-value= 0.000) were associated with premarital sexual behavior while no relationship was identified between religiosity (p-value= 0.123) and the behavior. Schools need to reactivate the Youth Information and Counseling Center (PIK-R) so that teenagers can access information about reproductive health to prevent them from having sex before marriage.

Abstract

The behavior of washing hands with soap must be instilled early in school-age children, considering that children are generally more prone to disease. Children from an early age will be more likely to adopt clean and healthy behavior, including washing hands, as they are sensitive to stimuli; therefore, children will be easy to guide and direct. The behavior of handwashing with soap can be introduced through a peer approach. The study aimed to analyze the effect of the peer approach in improving the behavior of washing hands with soap students at SD Negeri Tenau Kupang. The method used in this research was a pre-experimental research design with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 39 students from class V. The results showed a mean difference in the knowledge with 80.65 before treatment (pre-test) and 95.81 at post-test. Handwashing behavior also differed from before and after treatment for 22.59% and 64.51%, respectively. The school can use the method to educate and train elementary school children to practice handwashing with soap.

Abstract

The standard waiting time for medical services is 60 minutes, starting from the registration process to the time when patients enter the doctor's examination room. Long wait periods can aggravate patients' condition when they need a doctor's consultation and this impacts the health service quality offered by primary health care. The Oesapa Health Center was visited by 150 patients every day on average. Based on interviews with several patients, they had to wait 1-2 hours to receive service. This study aims to identify variables influencing the health center's outpatient waiting time in 2022. The cross-sectional research method was applied. The research sample consisted of 93 people selected by accidental sampling. Data collection used questionnaires and observation sheets. The data analysis was bivariate using the chi-square test. The results showed a relationship between the technical competence of health workers, timeliness of service, and facility and infrastructure availability with the waiting time for outpatients at the center. Puskesmas Oesapa needs to focus more on the service promptness, coordination among the staff, and ensuring the center equipped with needed facilities to speed up services and reduce patient waiting times.

Abstract

The COVID-19 booster vaccine is a follow-up vaccine given to individuals after receiving the complete primary COVID-19 vaccine to improve effectiveness and increase the individual's level of immunity to extend the protection period against COVID-19 infection. However, some people are still unsure about the booster. This study aims to determine the acceptance of the COVID-19 booster vaccine in the work area of Baumata Health Center. This research was descriptive, using a rapid survey method. The sample size was 210 respondents and was selected using a two-stage cluster sampling technique. The research results illustrated that respondents' knowledge regarding booster vaccines is quite good (50%), the level of trust in booster vaccines is classified as doubtful (49.05%), and the public's attitude regarding booster vaccines is quite good (65.24%). Respondents refused the booster because COVID-19 was considered no longer present. Public knowledge needs to be increased to improve people's belief and attitude towards receiving the vaccine.

Abstract

The target for participation in the National Health Insurance 2024 is 98%. All residents are required to participate by paying contributions directly or indirectly/borne by the government. There are still residents, especially non-wage earner workers, who are considered economically capable and willing to pay contributions independently but have yet to participate as participants. It was also found that many participants were in arrears when paying their fees. This research wants to analyze factors related to the ability and willingness to pay in groups of non-wage earners. This research was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The research results showed a relationship between employment, income, expenses, and the number of family members with the ability to pay. Knowledge and information about health insurance policies were related to willingness to pay. The sub-district government needs to carry out outreach and education about the national health insurance policy, especially regarding the rights and obligations of participants, and improve the selection mechanism and economic suitability of potential recipients for contribution assistance.

Abstract

Health protocols have been established to prevent and control the transmission of COVID-19. However, some people still have not complied with implementing health protocols. This research aims to determine community compliance with the COVID-19 health protocol using the Health Belief Model (HBM) approach in Kupang City. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Eight key informants and two supporting informants were determined using purposive sampling. The research results showed that informants felt vulnerable to infection because they interacted with other people and were outside the home for a long time. In contrast, other informants felt they were not worried about the spread of COVID-19. Informants comply with health protocols because they know the benefits of health protocols as preventing the spread of COVID-19, perceptions of the benefits of other health protocols, namely wearing masks to avoid pollution, washing hands, and using hand sanitizer to keep hands hygienic. The barriers identified were difficulty maintaining distance outside the home and discomfort when wearing a mask. Internal cues for informants to comply with health protocols are self-motivation because they are worried about the transmission and impact of COVID-19 and external cues in the form of appeals from the government and work demands. The role of health workers, government, and community leaders in educating about the importance of implementing health protocols by focusing on the benefits of health protocols and determining sanctions for those who violate compliance with health protocols.

Abstract

Malnutrition is one of the health problems in Indonesia. Malnutrition in children under five will increase morbidity and mortality. This study aims to determine factors related to the incidence of malnutrition in children under five related to maternal knowledge about nutrition, parenting patterns, education, family socio-economic condition, and infectious diseases in the work area of Fatukanutu Health Center, Kupang Regency. The study was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional study design. The sample consisted of 55 mothers who had undernourished children and were selected randomly. Data were collected by using questionnaires. The chi-square test was used in this study to assess the correlation between each variable and malnutrition. Nutritional knowledge (p=0.000), maternal parenting patterns (p=0.032), education level (p=0.000), occupation (p=0.002), infectious diseases (p=0.002), and family income (p=0.046) were related to nutritional status. Maternal nutritional knowledge needs to be improved through community-based education to support mothers in choosing and processing nutritious food for toddlers. Economic improvement by village government is a potential solution to increasing family income.

Abstract

The family planning program revitalization focuses on increasing Long Term Contraception Method/MKJP use, including IUD contraception. Data stated that IUD use in the work area of Tena Teke Health Center was still low, as it only reached 2.42%. The research aims to examine the use of IUD contraception among couples of childbearing ages. The method was descriptive qualitative with a case-study approach. Informants were determined by using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of women of childbearing age >35 years old, who had >2 children, and who used/had ever used an IUD. The research results found that informants who were not IUD users felt afraid because they thought IUD had side effects, including abdominal pain and discomfort during sexual intercourse. In contrast, informants who used IUDs believed that the contraceptive was safe to use. Husbands' support for non-IUD users was still limited to accompanying spouses to health facilities but not present during consultation and examination, while IUD informants reported receiving support from their husbands. Informants who did not use an IUD were likely to believe other people's incorrect experiences and stories compared to information from health workers. This was different from IUD informants who obtained clear and correct information about IUDs directly from midwives. Family planning health workers need to increase education by involving husbands in family planning programs.
