Abstract

This study examines school organizational climate and work motivation effects on elementary teachers' professional competence in Jambu Subdistrict, Semarang Regency's 18 rural schools. Previous studies found moderate correlations (Dharmawaty et al., 2022: r = 0.45; Sumantri & Whardani, 2017: R² = 0.28), but simultaneous examination in rural contexts remains limited. Using ex post facto design, 125 teachers were surveyed through proportional random sampling. Instruments measured professional competence (content mastery, student understanding, curriculum application), organizational climate (learning quality, inclusivity, learning culture), and work motivation (internal/external factors) with validated items like "I understand subject scientific structure" and "School promotes innovative strategies." Results showed significant positive effects: organizational climate (r = 0.634, R² = 0.402) and work motivation (r = 0.630, R² = 0.397) individually, with combined influence of 56.2%. These large effect sizes indicate substantial practical significance for real educational settings. Dimensional analysis revealed learning content knowledge (0.333) and learning culture (0.380) had lowest contributions, while internal-external motivation contributed equally (0.634). Findings align with Herzberg's Motivation-Hygiene Theory and Organizational Climate Theory, confirming that both intrinsic satisfaction and environmental factors shape professional performance. The study recommends prioritizing teacher subject mastery through continuous training and strengthening organizational learning culture via structured professional development.

Abstract

Transformative education in senior high schools plays an important role in balancing academic achievement with the formation of students' social and religious characters, in line with the perspective of Islamic Religious Education. This study aims to examine how the implementation process of transformative education is carried out at Dharmawangsa High School in Medan City, as well as assess the results achieved in strengthening students' social awareness and responsibility. The research used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation, then validated using source triangulation and member checks to ensure credibility. The results show that transformative education is successfully integrated in the curriculum through social and religious value-based learning, which encourages students' active involvement in social activities such as fundraising, community empowerment, and environmental preservation. On the other hand, the main challenges arise from the dominance of the academic paradigm that often shifts the priority of social character development, the limited role of teachers outside the principal, and the lack of maximum parental involvement. The implications of this research emphasize the need for synergy between schools, teachers, parents and communities so that transformative education is sustainable and contextual to culture and religious values. The recommendations in this study are the need for a more systematic curriculum design based on Islamic Religious Education values and strengthening collaborative strategies across parties to produce graduates who excel academically while caring socially.

Abstract

The issue of critical thinking skills in the face of the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era is a significant one. The prevalence of information and rapid knowledge services through technology can potentially lead students to neglect their critical thinking skills. This is particularly true in doctrinal subjects such as Aqidah Akhlak. The impact of this trend is evident in the learning process of Akidah Akhlak subjects at MTsN in Kediri City. The research focuses on the role of Active Learning strategies in supporting students to develop critical thinking skills through participatory learning. The qualitative research method was implemented through non-participant observation, interview, and document analysis approaches. The researcher explored the interaction between teachers and students in the implementation of Active Learning strategies, as well as assessing students’ responses to the learning process centered on active participation and critical reflection. The results showed that the construction of Active Learning strategies in State MTs in Kediri City was built in response to the demands of the times. In practice, the construction of this strategy is supported by government regulations, internal madrasah policies, educational theories, teacher readiness, and the availability of facilities and infrastructure. Active Learning strategies are implemented through systematic planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The Active Learning strategy has been proven highly effective in strengthening students’ critical thinking skills, providing reassurance about the positive impact of these strategies. With continuous support, this strategy has the potential to become a relevant and transformative learning model in forming an adaptive and solution-oriented Islamic generation.

Abstract

This study employs a bibliometric approach to analyze scientific research trends on Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren). Data were collected from Google Scholar using the Publish or Perish software, with the keyword “pondok pesantren” and its variations. The analyzed publication period spans from 2014 to 2024. The inclusion criteria cover relevant scholarly publications written in English and containing complete metadata, while non-scholarly, irrelevant, or incomplete publications were excluded from the analysis. The bibliometric search was conducted using Publish or Perish to extract publication metadata from the Google Scholar database, based on specified keywords and timeframes. The collected data were then analyzed with VOSviewer to visualize bibliometric relationships such as co-authorship, co-citation, and keyword analysis. The findings indicate that the dominant themes in pondok pesantren research include character education as the foundation of moral development for students (santri), adaptive pesantren management in response to contemporary challenges, digitalization in learning and administration, and gender issues concerning the roles and participation of women within pesantren environments.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the specific challenges faced by Akidah Akhlak teachers in shaping students' moral attitudes and to analyze the strategies implemented to address these issues at MTs S Darul 'Arafah Pangkalan Brandan. Despite the central role of Akidah Akhlak in Islamic education, studies exploring the practical barriers and adaptive strategies of teachers in local madrasah contexts remain limited. This study fills that gap by providing empirical insights into the micro-level dynamics of character education in Islamic schools. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from four purposively selected teachers through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation. Data credibility was ensured through triangulation and member checking, while analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that teachers encounter persistent obstacles, including low student motivation, negative peer and media influences, limited facilities, and weak parental support. Contributing factors are rooted in family background, peer pressure, social media exposure, and students’ psychological conditions. To overcome these challenges, teachers adopt multifaceted strategies such as role modeling (uswah hasanah), moral advice, habituation through routine activities, individualized approaches, the use of digital media, and collaborative partnerships with parents and madrasah authorities. This study contributes to the broader discourse on Islamic character education by highlighting the necessity of a holistic, contextual, and collaborative approach. The implications underscore the importance of strengthening teacher capacity, parental engagement, and institutional support in sustaining effective Akidah Akhlak education.

Abstract

This study analyzes the United States’ foreign policy toward Iran’s nuclear program during 2021–2024. In 2022, President Joe Biden expressed the intention to resume dialogue with Iran; however, this effort was rejected by 48 Republican senators who insisted on continuing the Maximum Pressure policy initiated during the Trump administration. Using a qualitative approach and literature study, this research examines the interplay between identity, domestic politics, economic strength, and military capacity in shaping U.S. foreign policy. The findings reveal that the construction of U.S. national identity, reinforced through social and political interactions, significantly influences the formulation of foreign policy. These factors led decision makers, particularly the President, to maintain the Maximum Pressure strategy as the main approach in addressing Iran’s nuclear ambitions during the 2021–2024 period.

Abstract

Drug abuse among adolescents is a serious issue that threatens their health, morality, and the future of young generations, including in Binjai City. This study aims to examine the role of the Magrib Mengaji (Qur’an recitation at dusk) program as a religion-based preventive strategy in reducing drug abuse behavior among adolescents. The study employs a qualitative method using a case study approach to gain an in-depth understanding of the meaning and role of Magrib Mengaji in preventing drug abuse. Data were collected through observation, structured interviews with BNN (National Narcotics Board) staff, mosque leaders, and adolescents, as well as documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources and methods. The findings show that Magrib Mengaji helps shape religious character, enhance self-control, and strengthen a positive social environment for adolescents, thus keeping them away from drug influence. Community-based religious activities prove to have significant preventive effectiveness and can serve as an alternative model for drug prevention policies in society.

Abstract

This study analyses the concept of a love-based curriculum as an effort to revive the humanistic side of students within the framework of Islamic education, as well as its potential implications for the learning management system in religious educational institutions in Indonesia. This study uses a systematic literature review methodology, analysing relevant literature published mainly since 2020. Data collection involved a comprehensive examination of official policy documents from the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, academic journals, and scientific publications through databases including Google Scholar, ERIC, JSTOR, and DOAJ. The analysis used thematic categorisation to identify key conceptual elements. This study identifies three fundamental dimensions of love-based curriculum: its philosophical foundation in the Islamic concept of rahmatan lil 'alamin, its pedagogical emphasis on emotional intelligence development, and its practical implementation challenges. This study contributes to educational theory by proposing a conceptual framework that bridges Islamic educational principles with contemporary humanistic pedagogy. These findings suggest practical applications for curriculum development in religious educational institutions facing the challenges of modernisation. This study presents the first comprehensive conceptual analysis of love-based curriculum initiatives in the context of Indonesian Islamic education, offering insights that transcend religious boundaries towards broader considerations of educational reform.
