Abstract

Previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and unit cube manipulatives in mathematics instruction. However, studies integrating both approaches to improve elementary school students' numeracy skills in geometry remain limited. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by unit cube manipulatives on the numeracy skills of fifth-grade students in geometry, particularly on the topic of the volume of cubes and rectangular prisms, at SD Negeri 2 Mangkung. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The participants consisted of 29 fifth-grade students selected through the total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, Independent Samples t-test, and effect size analysis (Cohen's d). The results revealed that the experimental class achieved a higher mean posttest score (70.00) than the control class (58.57). The hypothesis test produced a significance value of 0.047 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. Furthermore, the effect size value of 0.777 indicated a medium practical effect. Therefore, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by unit cube manipulatives significantly improved the numeracy skills of fifth-grade students in geometry.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the development process, validity level, and practicality level of a problem-posing-based scrapbook medium for the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject on the ecosystem topic for fifth-grade elementary school students. This is a Research and Development (R&D) study adapting Sugiyono's model, limited to seven of ten stages: potential and problems, data collection, product design, design validation, design revision, product trial, and product revision. Research subjects consisted of one subject-matter expert, one media expert, one fifth-grade teacher, and eight fifth-grade students at SDN 4 Cakranegara. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation and analyzed descriptively based on percentage scores. Results show that the developed medium, covering Chapter 2 "Harmony in Ecosystems," topic "Eating and Being Eaten," achieved a validity percentage of 90% from the subject-matter expert and 92% from the media expert, both in the "highly valid" category. The practicality test yielded a 98% response from the teacher and 97% from students, both categorized as "highly practical." These findings indicate that the problem-posing-based scrapbook medium is valid and practical for teaching the ecosystem topic in fifth-grade IPAS classes, although the trial remains limited to a small group and generalization should be made cautiously.

Abstract

Muara Indah Beach in Ogotion Village, Parigi Moutong Regency, has great potential for marine tourism; however, its development is still hampered by limited digital promotion, suboptimal supporting facilities, and the absence of specific regulations governing the management of the tourist area. This study aims to formulate a development strategy for Muara Indah Beach as a tourist destination based on a Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, and Legal (PESTEL) analysis. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation involving 43 informants, including local government officials, village government officials, tourism managers, community members/MSME operators, and visitors. Data were analyzed through data reduction, triangulation, and data synthesis. The results indicate that political and social aspects serve as supporting strengths through village government support and community participation; economic aspects provide business opportunities via SMEs; environmental aspects remain pristine and constitute the main attraction; while technological and legal aspects remain constraints due to suboptimal digital promotion and the absence of specific regulations. Recommended development strategies include strengthening digital promotion, empowering SMEs, forming Tourism Awareness Groups, conserving the coastal environment, implementing digital payment systems, and gradually developing tourism management regulations to support the sustainability of Muara Indah Beach.

Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze science teachers' perceptions of diagnostic assessment practices and their utilization in mapping student learning constraints during the implementation of the deep learning approach. The study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The research subjects consisted of five science teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Warureja, selected based on their diverse teaching experiences. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and literature study. Data analysis was systematically conducted using NVivo 12 software through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding stages. The results indicate that science teachers possess positive perceptions and high pedagogical awareness of the urgency of diagnostic assessment in preventing misconceptions and mapping learning readiness. However, its implementation faces significant structural barriers, including limited time, heavy teaching loads (6–10 classes per teacher), administrative burdens, and technical doubts regarding independent instrument development. As a form of creative negotiation, teachers utilize assessment results to form heterogeneous learning groups with peer tutoring systems and adapt teaching strategies through the use of digital media (Google Forms/Quizizz) and contextual approaches. This study concludes that diagnostic assessment serves as a crucial bridge toward deep learning, yet its effectiveness depends heavily on the teachers' ability to navigate systemic constraints in the field. It is recommended that policies be established to reduce teaching loads and provide sustainable technical assistance for teachers to optimize assessment practices.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the physical (spatial), social, and economic impacts, as well as how the community adapts to environmental disasters caused by C-mining activities in Korleko Selatan Village, Labuhan Haji District. This study employed a mixed-method approach (descriptive qualitative and spatial analysis based on GIS). Qualitative data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, while spatial data collection uses direct observation and satellite imagery. Qualitative data analysis techniques used the Miles and Huberman Model (1992), followed by spatial analysis based on QGis with digitization to visualize the distribution of physical impacts of environmental disasters caused by mining activities. The research results showed that the impact of C-mining activities includes interrelated physical, social, and economic effects. The physical impacts include the decline in water quality of the Rumpang River, changes in agricultural land conditions, potential landslides, and road damage. The social impacts include disturbances due to dust, increased farmer concerns, and community conflicts with miners. Then, the economic impact includes the opening of job opportunities and sources of Regional Original Income (PAD), but on the other hand, it causes losses to farmers due to decreased crop yields, which affect their income. The community adapted by adjusting agricultural patterns, changing livelihoods, utilizing alternative water sources, and conducting demonstrations and agreements to mitigate the impact.

Abstract

The research investigates the use of ChatGPT by EFL learners for their thesis writing in Hamzanwadi University. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was utilized whereby quantitative data were collected through questionnaires from 55 participants who are in the eighth semester while qualitative data were obtained from semi-structured interviews conducted with five purposive respondents. The study results showed a high level of functional reliance on ChatGPT with respect to the ability to understand certain complex theories, improve the grammar, and write paragraphs among students. Yet, psychological and cognitive dependence of students were at moderate levels. Hence, students are able to retain their critical thinking abilities and independence in academic pursuits and consider AI as their cooperating language helper rather than cognitive worker's replacement. Such a phenomenon that may be called "Controlled Reliance" proves that expansion of AI technologies application is not a reason for the lack of independent thinking. Therefore, the higher education institutions are encouraged to devise AI literacy courses aimed at enhancing the usage of artificial intelligence rather than prohibitive measures.

Abstract

Exposure to cigarette smoke can cause lung tissue damage through mechanisms of chronic inflammation and oxidative stress. Melaleuca cajuputi essential oil contains 1,8-cineole and flavonoids, which possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, thereby offering potential protective effects on lung tissue. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Melaleuca cajuputi essential oil on the histopathological features of the lungs in cigarette smoke-induced rats. This experimental study used 28 male Wistar rats divided into four groups: negative control, positive control (cigarette smoke exposure), treatment group 1 (cigarette smoke exposure + Melaleuca cajuputi aromatherapy at a dose of 0.5 mL), and treatment group 2 (cigarette smoke exposure + aromatherapy at a dose of 1 mL). The treatments were administered for 30 days, with exposure to two cigarettes per day and aromatherapy for 15 minutes daily. Histopathological parameters assessed included inflammatory cell infiltration and alveolar septal destruction. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test and Mann–Whitney test. The results showed that administration of Melaleuca cajuputi at a dose of 0.5 mL significantly reduced inflammatory cell infiltration scores and alveolar septal destruction compared to the positive control group. Administration of the 1 mL dose significantly reduced inflammatory cell infiltration; however, it did not show a significant difference in alveolar septal destruction compared to the positive control group.
