Abstract

Sungai Pisang Village is confronted with several public health issues, particularly a high incidence of diseases attributable to inadequate sanitation facilities and unhealthy lifestyle practices. This community-based intervention aimed to improve clean and healthy living behaviors through a combination of educational strategies and practical disease prevention activities. The intervention consisted of structured health education sessions, hands-on demonstrations of hygiene practices, and subsequent evaluations to measure behavioral outcomes and program effectiveness. Active engagement from community members and institutional support from the local health center facilitated program implementation. Findings revealed a significant increase in public awareness and the adoption of clean and healthy living behaviors practices, especially in terms of environmental hygiene, healthy dietary behavior, and preventive health measures. The results suggest that such integrative health promotion efforts can effectively foster sustainable behavioral changes, provided that continuous support from stakeholders is maintained.

Abstract

Guo River is one of the 3 upstream branches in Kuranji, located at Lubuak Tampuruang in Guo Village RT 01 RW 06 Kuranji Village. As an upstream of Guo Riverr, it has several waterfalls with great potential as an ecotourism area in Padang City. This potential is threatened with failure due to river damage that often occurs every year. The amount of sediment carried during the rainy season and the presence of plants planted by the community on theriverbanks have slowed the water flow and eventually caused sediment to accumulate on the cliffs of the middle section of the Guo River. Sediment accumulation causes changes in the river's flow patterns and narrowing of the river's area. The lack of basic river and watershed management knowledge among the people of Guo Village leads to the degradation of land and river functions, and the low level of public awareness of the dangers of uncontrolled logging underlies the damage to the Guo River. Therefore, community-based structural and non-structural measures are needed to implement river management. Structural actions in this service focus on river management through river normalization, and non-structural actionstakeake the form of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activities between the community and related stakeholders. The normalization of the Guo River will be carried out by cutting vegetation, removing sedimentation, and strengthening triverbanks.s. Through these activities, it is hoped that the community will be able to use the river and maintain it self-sufficiently.

Abstract

The issue of organic waste in Padang City is increasing due to the community's high activity level, which predominantly generates food waste. Currently, food waste accounts for 63% of the total waste in Padang City. The Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot is an effective agent for processing organic waste, requiring simple technology that is cost-efficient and easy to implement. BSF maggots also produce biomass with a high protein content that can be utilized as animal feed. The methods used in this study include socialization, education, direct field practice, and evaluation. The results demonstrated an increase in community understanding and interest in BSF maggot cultivation as a means to reduce organic waste. Participants also learned about the TOSS (Solid Waste Processing Technology at the Source) method for managing leaf and twig waste. This activity was expected to serve as a waste management model that reduces waste volume and creates opportunities within the circular economy, where organic waste is converted into valuable resources.

Abstract

Stunting in children is a chronic malnutrition problem caused by a lack of nutritional intake for a long time, especially in the first 1,000 days of life. The prevalence of stunted children in West Sumatra is 25.2%, and in Padang City it is 19.5%, which shows a high stunting rate in Padang City. The Community service activities empower housewives to produce VCO with prebiotics as a nutritional supplement for stunted children in Bukik Karan Rawang Village, Padang City. Providing VCO supplements that contain good fats, prebiotics, and antioxidants improves children's digestive systems, increases their immunity, prevents them from infectious diseases, and supports the development of their brains and nervous systems. Technology transfer provides skills for mothers of stunted children to make their own VCO, and can also improve the family economy. The growth and development of stunted children improve, as indicated by measurable parameters such as increased height and weight, after they are given VCO with prebiotics. Weight gain between 1-1.8 kg, an average of 1.47 kg, and height between 2.2-7 cm, an average of 4.38 cm in stunted children. Education on diet and Parenting Patterns for stunted children is carried out by providing knowledge, training, nutritional counseling, and parenting to increase insight among mothers of stunted children about nutrition supplements and healthy and nutritious foods to achieve improved health. Providing VCO with prebiotics can enhance children's growth and development and improve their nutritional status to help overcome stunting.

Abstract

The diversification of goat milk products through flavor innovation is a strategic approach to enhancing the competitiveness of local livestock commodities, especially in response to increasing market competition. Goat milk holds significant potential as a premium dairy product; however, its market penetration remains limited due to its distinctive taste and lower consumer familiarity than cow’s milk. Introducing innovative and appealing flavor variants represents a promising solution to improve consumer acceptance and broaden market reach. This community service initiative focuses on developing market-oriented goat milk products in collaboration with local farmers at Andaleh Farm, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The program aims to strengthen farmers’ capacity in product innovation and value-added processing by providing training and technical assistance. The expected outcomes include increased product diversity, improved product quality, and enhanced branding strategies. Ultimately, this initiative seeks to stimulate local economic growth by opening new market opportunities, increasing farmer income, and positioning goat milk as a viable and competitive local product within the regional dairy industry.

Abstract

Adolescents are increasingly vulnerable to chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and heart disease, largely due to unhealthy lifestyles and poor dietary habits. This community service initiative aimed to improve adolescents’ knowledge and awareness regarding chronic disease prevention. The program was implemented at SMAN 9 Padang, involving 58 students, and comprised health education through lectures and individual health assessments—including measurements of weight and height, and family medical history screening. Results indicated that 34.5% of students were classified as underweight based on their body mass index (BMI), while 20.7% were overweight. Identified risk behaviors included smoking (22.3%), physical inactivity (35.5%), and a family history of hypertension (43.1%). The educational intervention led to a significant improvement in students' knowledge, with the average score increasing from 6.74 (pre-test) to 7.82 (post-test) on a 10-point scale. This school-based education and health screening initiative effectively enhanced adolescent awareness of chronic disease prevention and underscored the importance of early interventions to foster healthier lifestyles among youth.
