Abstract

The Nuhayrun MSME in Nagari is a community-based enterprise that originated from the activities of the Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an (TPA) in Korong Patalangan, Padang Pariaman Regency. To enhance income and economic self-reliance among local residents, the enterprise has expanded its stingless bee (Galo-galo) farming into an agro-edutourism model. This community service program aims to increase the income of Nuhayrun MSME through improved production and optimized business management. The implemented methods include the addition of Heterotrigona itama and Trigona laeviceps colonies, cultivation of nectar-rich forage plants such as Calliandra and Clitoria ternatea, development of edutourism packages, human resource training, and optimization of digital promotional media. The results of the program indicate enhanced managerial awareness among partners, an increase in productive bee colonies, and the development of educational materials and promotional content that support the enterprise's image as an Islamic-based agro-edutourism center.

Abstract

The Forest Farmer Group of Puncak Labuang (FFGPL) manages a 194-hectare community forest in Limau Manis, Padang, contributing to the livelihood of community through agriculture and ecotourism. The forest productivity comes as high-value commodities such as durian, mangosteen, and coffee, as well as ecotourism activities like camping and hiking; all of which boost local economy while sustaining the surrounding environmental. Having diverse vegetation, the forest presents an opportunity for farming the stingless bee (galo-galo) as a promising innovative economic initiative. This program aligns with the program of West Sumatra Provincial Government to achieve position as production centre for honey. Some challenges such as low production of bee colonies appear from the lack of knowledge in farming techniques and insufficiency of food sources for colonies which hinder the progress. From June to December 2024, a community service program had been implemented to address these challenges. Activities included socialization, demonstrations, and training in bee farming techniques, supported by a team of experts. The education focused on the potential of galo-galo farming and strategies for marketing local products. Additionally, training sessions for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), along with honey product exhibitions, had successfully raised public awareness and improved the competitiveness of local products. As a result of this program, there was a notable improvement in community skills and knowledge, contributing to the sustainability of local economy and preservation of biodiversity. FFGPL has the potential to become a model for community empowerment based on natural resources, leading to significant improvements in community welfare.

Abstract

Road infrastructure is a crucial element in supporting socio-economic growth, particularly in rural areas such as Nagari Lawang, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. This article discusses efforts to map road conditions in Nagari Lawang using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The objective of this mapping is to enhance road accessibility, which can support the economic growth of the local community, especially in the agriculture and tourism sectors. The methodology includes road accessibility surveys and data analysis using ArcGIS software. Survey results indicate that the roads in Nagari Lawang are predominantly concrete with an average width of 2 meters, while dirt roads are narrower and mainly used as farm roads. The resulting map is expected to assist the government in more targeted and equitable development planning. This road mapping not only supports infrastructure development but also aligns with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program as a collaborative effort in regional development to the head of the Lawang village government.

Abstract

Limited access to quality feed remains a major constraint in smallholder livestock systems, particularly due to the low nutritional value of untreated rice straw. To address this challenge, a community empowerment program was implemented to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills in processing mineral-enriched fermented rice straw as an alternative feed. Using a participatory approach, the program involved technical training, hands-on demonstrations, and five months of field mentoring with 25 participants from the Kelompok Tani Lereng Sago. Evaluation through pre- and post-tests showed a significant improvement in knowledge, with average scores rising from 60 to 85. Supplementation with fermented rice straw increased average daily weight gain from 200–350 g to 555 g/head/day. Reproductive performance also improved: service per conception (S/C) decreased from 3.5 to 1.8, conception rate rose from 40% to 65%, and pregnancies doubled. Participant satisfaction averaged 4.66 on a 5-point Likert scale, indicating strong acceptance. The results confirm that this locally adapted and low-cost feed innovation is effective in improving cattle productivity and farmer capacity. The empowerment model developed offers high potential for replication in similar rural livestock systems.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge of young children in the Bukit ASE Community about physical health, dental and oral hygiene, environmental hygiene, and the importance of nutritious food. The method used is BCM (Play, Storytelling, and Singing) to make the learning process enjoyable and effective. The activity involved 30 children divided into three themes: “My Plate,” “Body and Environmental Hygiene,” and “Oral Health.” The results showed an improvement in children's understanding of the importance of handwashing, brushing their teeth, sorting waste, and consuming a balanced diet. Evaluations through games and question-and-answer sessions demonstrated the effectiveness of the BCM method in enhancing their knowledge and behavior. This activity recommends the development of similar programs in other communities to expand their impact. Continuous education for parents is also necessary to ensure that healthy habits can be consistently applied at home. Collaboration with health workers and educational institutions is expected to strengthen these efforts, enabling children to grow into a smart and healthy generation.

Abstract

This community service project on Arabic translation training at Al-Mandiliy Islamic Boarding School, Panyabungan, Mandailing Natal, aimed to improve students’ proficiency in Arabic, with a focus on translation skills. Utilizing the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the program actively involved students and teachers in identifying problems, planning solutions, implementing training, and conducting joint evaluations. The training consisted of several phases: problem identification, participatory planning, interactive implementation, reflection, joint evaluation, and sustainable follow-up. The results demonstrated significant improvement in students' understanding of Arabic-to-Indonesian translation techniques and strategies, particularly in conveying meaning within appropriate contextual frameworks. Despite these gains, challenges such as limited vocabulary, inadequate grammar mastery, over-reliance on literal translation, and difficulty in constructing well-formed Indonesian sentences were observed. Reflection and evaluation phases revealed substantial progress in the students' translation competence. Overall, the training not only enhanced the students' Arabic skills but also contributed to the broader improvement of educational quality at the boarding school. These outcomes are essential for strengthening students’ capacity to comprehend Islamic texts and prepare them for academic, religious, and social responsibilities.

Abstract

Adolescence is a phase where the body undergoes changes in physical, social, psychological, and intellectual development. These changes often leave adolescents feeling confused and in need of guidance. A lack of knowledge and guidance can lead to various problems, particularly deviations in sexual behavior, which can affect reproductive health. The purpose of this counseling is to enhance the understanding of SMK SMAK Padang students regarding reproductive health, including adolescent growth and development, adolescent nutrition, adolescent psychology, sexuality, gender and domestic violence, reproductive tract infections (RTIs), HIV/AIDS, the future impacts of adolescent sexual behavior, and other youth-related issues. The methods used in this activity include counseling sessions supported by media such as PowerPoint presentations, posters, and leaflets, as well as pre-tests and post-tests consisting of 40 questions. Based on the T-test, a significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test results. From these findings, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the average knowledge of participants between the pre-test and post-test, indicating that reproductive health counseling has a positive impact on adolescents.

Abstract

Nagari Pandai Sikek West Sumatra experienced a flash flood disaster that caused infrastructure damage, disruption of basic services, and decreased the quality of life of the community, especially vulnerable groups. This activity aims to improve the quality of life and health of post-disaster communities through an integrated approach in the fields of health and disaster management. The quality of life of the community is measured through a composite approach that includes knowledge improvement (pre- and post-tests), behavioral changes and participation in activities, simple health conditions (blood pressure and physical activity), waste bank and maggot-based environmental management, and community social involvement. These indicators show improvements in physical, cognitive, social, and environmental aspects after the community service activities. Activity methods include socialization, simulation, and education with a pre-test and post-test approach to measure the effectiveness of the intervention. Activities were carried out in the form of disaster mitigation counseling for elementary school students, maggot-based waste management training, healthy lifestyle counseling for the elderly through the GERMAS program, and nutrition education for parents related to stunting prevention. The results of the activity showed an increase in public understanding of disaster mitigation, with an average pre-test score of 58.4 increasing to 82.7 in the post-test. The community demonstrated a better understanding of the importance of waste management to prevent environmental pollution, awareness of early detection of hypertension, and the fulfillment of balanced nutrition to prevent stunting. Active participation in simulations, question and answer sessions, and discussions were indicators of the success of the activity. It can be concluded that this community service program succeeded in increasing the understanding and awareness of the Pandai Sikek community regarding health and disaster preparedness. The sustainability of this program needs to be supported through collaboration with local governments, educational institutions, and local communities to expand its positive impact.
