Abstract

Vegetable and fruit consumption among adolescents aged 10–14 years remains very low, at only 2.3%. Adolescents tend to prefer fast food, so vegetable and fruit intake is often neglected, even though balanced consumption is very important for their growth and development. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a combination of Snakes and Ladders and Engklek games in improving adolescents' attitudes toward vegetable and fruit consumption. The study used a quasi-experimental design with two groups, pre-test and post-test, conducted at SMPN 6 and SMPN 11 in Jambi City. The sample consisted of 52 respondents in the intervention group and 51 respondents in the control group. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant increase in attitude in the intervention group (p = 0.000), while the control group did not show significant changes (p = 0.739). The Mann–Whitney test results showed that there was no significant difference in attitude between the two groups during the pre-test (p = 0.838), but there was a significant difference during the post-test (p = 0.000). It can be concluded that the combination of snakes and ladders and hopscotch games is effective in improving adolescents' attitudes towards vegetable and fruit consumption. This medium can be recommended as an alternative to health education in schools and health care facilities.

Abstract

Worker fatigue contributes to approximately 60% of workplace accidents. Preliminary data from Project X Surabaya showed that 67% of workers experienced high fatigue, while 33% experienced moderate fatigue. This study aimed to analyze the effects of workplace stretching exercises and water consumption frequency on worker fatigue at Project X Surabaya. A quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest–posttest approach was employed. Fatigue was measured using the Industrial Fatigue Research Committee (IFRC) questionnaire, a Digital Reaction Timer, and observation sheets, all of which had been validated. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann–Whitney U Test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results indicated that both interventions significantly reduced worker fatigue, with the combined intervention of workplace stretching exercises and increased water consumption frequency producing greater effects than water consumption alone. These findings suggest that implementing stretching and hydration programs in the workplace may help reduce fatigue and support occupational health and safety. The study recommends establishing workplace policies that promote stretching exercises and adequate water consumption. Future research should involve larger sample sizes, longer intervention periods, and additional variables related to hydration practices.

Abstract

Dengue remains a major vector-borne disease and a persistent public health problem in Indonesia. West Java is one of the provinces with a high dengue burden, while climatic variability may shape ecological conditions that support Aedes mosquito survival and dengue transmission. This study aimed to describe the spatial distribution of dengue incidence according to rainfall, air temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed in West Java from 2019 to 2023. A descriptive ecological time-series study was conducted using aggregated dengue data from 27 districts/cities and climate data from four meteorological stations managed by the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics. Dengue incidence rates were mapped at the district/city level, while climate variables were interpolated using the Inverse Distance Weighting method in QGIS and classified with natural breaks. Spatial overlay was used to identify visual coincidence between dengue incidence and climate variability. Dengue incidence showed an uneven spatial pattern, with higher incidence repeatedly observed in Bandung Raya, parts of Bogor, Sumedang, and Tasikmalaya. Areas with higher dengue incidence often coincided with moderate-to-high rainfall, warm temperatures, high relative humidity, and relatively low wind speed. These findings suggest that integrating climate information into routine dengue surveillance may support risk stratification and early warning in West Java. Further analytical studies are needed to quantify the association between climate variability and dengue incidence.

Abstract

Proper complementary feeding for children aged 6–24 months is essential to meet nutritional needs beyond breast milk. Maternal nutrition literacy plays an important role in improving knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to providing local complementary feeding. This study aimed to analyze the effect of an “Isi Piringku”-based nutrition literacy intervention delivered through educational flyers on maternal knowledge, attitudes, and practices in providing local food-based complementary feeding for children aged 6–24 months. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group approach. The research was conducted in the working area of Sawah Lebar Health Center, Bengkulu City, from May to June 2024. A total of 60 mothers with children aged 6–24 months were selected through purposive sampling and divided into an intervention group (n=30), which received educational flyers, and a control group (n=30), which received leaflets. Data on knowledge, attitudes, and practices were collected using structured questionnaires before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U Test at a 0.05 significance level. Results showed significant improvements in knowledge, attitudes, and practices in both groups after the intervention (p<0.05). However, the intervention group demonstrated significantly higher post-test scores compared to the control group across all variables. Educational flyers were more effective in enhancing maternal nutrition literacy and improving local complementary feeding practices and can be recommended as a community-based nutrition education strategy.

Abstract

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) remains a major public health problem due to its high mortality and low treatment success rates. Sumatra is one of the regions in Indonesia with a high burden of DR-TB mortality. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with mortality among patients with drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis in Sumatra during 2020–2024. This study used a quantitative analytical observational design with a retrospective cohort approach utilizing secondary data from the Tuberculosis Information System (SITB) of the Ministry of Health of Indonesia. A total sampling technique was applied to all eligible DR-TB patients. The dependent variable was mortality during treatment, while independent variables included age, sex, employment status, HIV status, type of health facility, residential area, and treatment history. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariable, and multivariable analyses. Multivariable analysis was performed to identify factors associated with mortality after adjustment for confounding factors. The results showed that age and treatment history were significantly associated with mortality (p<0.05). Patients aged ≥45 years had a 1.60 times higher risk of death compared to younger patients, while previously treated patients had a 1.32 times higher risk of mortality compared to new cases. Other variables were not significantly associated with mortality. These findings highlight the importance of closer monitoring among older and previously treated DR-TB patients.

Abstract

Treatment success rates remain below the national target in Indonesia. This study aims to identify individual characteristics and health facility-level factors associated with treatment success among Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) patients in West Sumatra. A retrospective cohort study encompassing DR-TB patients treated in West Sumatra between 2017 and 2021 was undertaken. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses are used to evaluate the association between facility-level factors, individual characteristics, and treatment outcomes. The analysis indicated a heightened propensity for successful treatment among male patients and those within younger age cohorts. Patients treated in district-level hospitals were more likely to achieve successful treatment outcomes than those treated in city-based hospitals. Furthermore, patients referred from other facilities to a different district hospital had significantly higher odds of success than those who received care at a single facility throughout their treatment. Younger Age, male gender, district hospital, and patients referred for DR-TB are likely to achieve treatment success. Besides individual characteristics, decentralized care and structured referral systems need improvement. Consequently, the prioritization of inter-facility coordination reinforcement and the augmentation of district hospital capacities are imperative within provincial tuberculosis control strategies.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) among children remain a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, including Jambi City. Children aged 0–14 year are particularly susceptible to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection due to their immature immune system. Several individual and environmental factors have been suggested to influence the occurrence of childhood TB, including nutritional status, household TB contact, BCG immunization, exposure to cigarette smoke, household crowding, and housing humidity. This study aimed to analyze risk factor associated with tuberculosis among children aged 0–14 years in Jambi City, Indonesia. An analytical observational study with a case–control design was conducted involving 96 participants, consisting of 32 TB cases identified through medical records from the selected primary healthcare centers and 64 controls selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews, document reviews, and direct household observations. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariable logistic regression analyses. Ethical approval for this study was granted by the Health Research Ethics Committee of the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health, Jambi (Reference No. LB.02.06/2/0002/2026). The findings revealed that at-risk nutritional status (Adj OR = 3.49; 95% CI: 1.22–10.51; p = 0.021) and household TB contact (Adj OR = 14.96; 95% CI: 4.80–55.25; p < 0.001) were significantly associated with childhood tuberculosis. In contrast, exposure to cigarette smoke, BCG immunization status, household crowding, and housing humidity were not significantly associated with childhood TB. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening household contact investigation and nutritional monitoring as key strategies for preventing and controlling tuberculosis among children.

Abstract

Fire is an oxidation process that occurs when three main elements, namely fuel, oxygen, and a heat source, interact, which can cause significant material losses, injuries, and even fatalities. One strategic effort that can be made to minimize its impact is through fire emergency response training, so that workers can handle fires appropriately and effectively. This study aimed to examine the effect of Hazard Mapping-based fire emergency response training on the knowledge and skills of workers at TPS3R in Batu City, East Java. The method used was a quasi-experiment with a pre-test and post-test with a control group design. The research was conducted from October 27, 2025, to November 3, 2025. The sample size of this study consisted of 30 workers, of whom 15 workers from TPS3R Oro-Oro Ombo were assigned to the experimental group, while 15 workers from TPS3R Dadaprejo were assigned to the control group. This study used a questionnaire to measure knowledge and an observation sheet to measure fire emergency response skills among workers. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U Test (p < 0.05). The results indicated that the six-day Hazard Mapping-based fire emergency response training intervention had a significant effect on improving the knowledge (p=0.001) and skills (p=0.001) of workers at TPS3R Oro-Oro Ombo in Batu City. Researchers recommend that TPS3R and the Batu City Environmental Agency implement risk control measures through Hazard Mapping and regular occupational safety and health training.

Abstract

Infectious diseases remain a public health problem in urban areas, particularly in densely populated settlements with poor environmental conditions. Inadequate household waste management and substandard sanitation can significantly increase the risk of disease transmission. This study aimed to analyze household waste management and environmental sanitation as determinants of infectious disease incidence among urban communities. A cross-sectional design was employed involving 120 households selected through stratified random sampling based on residential density levels. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and an observation checklist to assess waste management practices, sanitation conditions, and the occurrence of infectious diseases within the past three months. Data were analyzed using Chi-square tests with a 5% significance level. The results showed that 56.7% of households had poor waste management practices, and 52.5% had inadequate sanitation. Infectious diseases were reported in 40% of households. There was a significant association between poor waste management and infectious disease incidence (p=0.01; OR=3.77; 95% CI=1.71–8.31), as well as between inadequate sanitation and disease occurrence (p=0.02; OR=3.29; 95% CI=1.52–7.09). This study concludes that environmental factors, particularly household waste management and sanitation conditions, play an important role in increasing the risk of infectious diseases in urban settings. Strengthening sanitation infrastructure, implementing community-based waste management, and enhancing public health education are essential strategies to prevent environmentally transmitted infections and promote healthier urban environments.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour (PHBS) is an important indicator for improving public health; however, its implementation at the household level remains suboptimal and is influenced by individual and environmental factors. This study aimed to identify the determinants of PHBS among communities in Kelurahan X, Sidoarjo, East Java in 2025. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted among 449 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using binary logistic regression. The proportion of households with good PHBS was 85.1%. Productive age (OR = 5.70; 95% CI: 2.36 to 13.75), higher economic status (OR = 72.74; 95% CI: 6.23 to 849.96), ownership of wastewater disposal systems (SPAL) (OR = 35.55; 95% CI: 9.07 to 139.33), household latrine ownership (OR = 15.25; 95% CI: 6.32 to 36.78), and septic tank ownership (OR = 28.16; 95% CI: 2.03 to 89.89) were identified as significant determinants of PHBS. The condition of the wastewater disposal system was the dominant factor of PHBS after adjustment for other variables. Therefore, strengthening household sanitation, particularly by improving wastewater disposal systems, expanding access to sanitary latrines and septic tanks, and enhancing community-based health promotion programs, should be prioritized to improve PHBS implementation.
