Abstract

The application of PBL-STEM can encourage students to be independent in the learning process and emphasize the process of thinking critically and analytically to seek and find answers to a problem in question. This study used a true–experimental design with the Posttest Only Control Design type. The population in this study were all students of class XI SMA Kristen Sunodia Samarinda for the academic year 2022/2023 divided into 2 classes. This study aims to determine the effect of PBL-STEM in improving students' critical thinking skills. Sampling was done by cluster random sampling technique. The instruments used to measure students' critical thinking skills in chemistry were post-test questions, teacher and student observation sheets, and student response sheets (questionnaire). Data analysis was performed by t-test. The results of the t-test with Mann-Whitney obtained sig. (2-tailed) in both classes is 0.00 <0.05, it is concluded that Ha accepted the statement that there is an effect of the application of PBL-STEM on the critical thinking skills of class XI students at Christian Senior High School Sunodia Samarinda regarding reaction rates. The results of the teacher and student activity sheets in the experimental class were both in very good categories, as well as the student response to PBL-STEM learning, namely 77.2% of students agreed with the application of PBL-STEM in learning which can train students' critical thinking skills. This research discusses the analysis of how effective the influence of PBL and STEM integration is to improve critical thinking skills on reaction rate material so that this research can be used as a reference for applying PBL-STEM to other chemistry topics.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to produce structured task sheets to practice argumentation skills on buffer solution material. This research is a development research to produce products with the ADDIE development model which is limited to the design and development analysis stage. The developed structured assignment sheet contains enriched questions to practice argumentation skills on buffer solution material. The data obtained in this study is the feasibility of the validity aspect. The instruments used to obtain content and construct validity data were validation sheets assessed by three validators. Learning devices are declared to meet the validity criteria (based on content and construct) if they get a minimum rating mode (Mo) of 4 (valid) from the range 1 to 5 on a Likert scale. The results showed that according to the assessment component, both content and construct validity got an assessment mode (Mo) of 5 (very valid). The developed structured task sheets are declared valid to train argumentation skills.

Abstract

This research aims to develop interactive multimedia that can minimize students' misunderstanding of atomic model materials. Media developed using Macromedia Flash which contains animations about atomic models. Feasibility is reviewed from three aspects, namely (1) validity which contains the validity of content and construct, (2) practicality which is reviewed based on the results of student observations and response questionnaires, (3) effectiveness reviewed based on pretest – posttest results which will later show a shift in student conception from initially not understanding the concept (TPK) to understanding the concept (PK). This research uses the 4D Research and Development (R&D) method with 15 research subjects in class XI Science at SMA Negeri 1 Driyorejo. The results of the research obtained show that interactive multimedia is suitable to be used as a medium in learning and minimizes the occurrence of misconceptions in atomic model material. This is evidenced based on the results obtained during the study, namely (1) the average validation obtained mode 5 so that it was categorized as very good / valid, (2) the average percentage of student response questionnaires obtained a score of 94% so that it was categorized as very practical, in observation a score of 98% was obtained so that it was categorized as very practical, (3) and the average percentage of student conception shift from not understanding the concept (TPK) to understanding the concept (PK) obtained a score of 87.23% so that it was included in the category is very effective.

Abstract

Abstract The objective of this research is to create educational materials for the Mardeka curriculum that focus on fundamental chemical principles. The study adopts the Educational Design Research (EDR) approach, utilizing the plomp development model consisting of three stages: initial investigation, development, and prototype formation. To gather data, validity questionnaires and practicality questionnaires were employed. The developed textbooks underwent validation by five individuals, including three chemistry lecturers from FMIPA UNP and two chemistry teachers from SMAN 8 Padang. Additionally, practicality testing involved nine high school students from Phase E and two chemistry teachers from SMAN 8 Padang. The data analysis employed a Likert scale, employing Aiken's V formula to assess textbook validity and the modified Purwanto formula to assess practicality. The analysis of the data revealed that the product validation by the five validators yielded an average score of 0.86 indicating the textbooks' validity. Furthermore, the practicality evaluation by students and chemistry teachers yielded an average score of 92% and 95% respectively, indicating a high level of practicality. In conclusion, based on the data analysis, it can be inferred that the developed textbooks on the basic chemical laws are both valid and practical for use in chemistry education.

Abstract

Stoichiometry material is often still considered difficult for students in learning chemistry, causing low learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the effect of integrating the Expository Learning with the Active Student Learning  on student learning outcomes in stoichiometry material in class X-4 SMA Negeri 1 Kediri. This research involved 36 students of class X-4 SMA Negeri 1 Kediri as research subjects. This research used classroom action research method with two cycles. The results showed an increase in the average learning outcomes of students. Before the research (T0), the average score was 65.33, categorized as low, with a learning completeness rate of 55.56%. In cycle 1 (T1), the average score increased to 80.56, classified as good, with a learning completeness rate of 75%. In cycle 2 (T2), the average score increased to 88.47, classified as very good, with a learning completeness rate of 88.89%. Based on these results, the integration of the expository learning with active student learning can be considered for use in students who have a low understanding of chemical concepts in order to improve their learning outcomes on stoichiometry material.
