Abstract

The development of environmentally friendly materials is crucial to mitigate the environmental impact of conventional plastics. This study focuses on developing bioplastics using rice straw and rice husks, combined with glycerine, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and titanium dioxide (TiO₂). Glycerine acts as a plasticizer to enhance flexibility, CMC functions as a matrix binder, and TiO₂ serves as a reinforcing agent to improve mechanical strength. Bioplastics were produced using the casting method with specific proportions of these materials. Characterization tests included scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for morphology, biodegradability tests, water absorption analysis, and tensile strength measurements. Results revealed that the combination of rice straw and rice husks produced bioplastics with varied morphologies. TiO₂ enhanced mechanical strength and material homogeneity, though its distribution requires further optimization. Glycerine significantly increased flexibility, while CMC improved matrix cohesion. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of agro-industrial waste—rice straw and rice husks—with TiO₂, glycerine, and CMC, creating bioplastics that balance biodegradability, mechanical properties, and flexibility. This innovative approach demonstrates the potential of utilizing agricultural byproducts to produce sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics, offering customizable properties for diverse applications.

Abstract

Industrial development and population growth cause a lot of waste to enter water bodies, causing pollution. A number of studies have been carried out to remove metal ions and dyes in waters. Adsorption is the most widely used method to absorb heavy metal ions and harmful dyes by utilizing natural resources that are still abundant, for example, agricultural, livestock, and fishery waste. Adsorption can also use activated or modified absorbent materials to increase porosity and expand the surface plane. In this review, the adsorption method and results obtained by the researcher with various absorbent materials are summarized which are mostly carried out in the last ten years. The purpose of this review is to provide input in finding alternatives to other absorbent materials or eliminating pollutants harmful to human health and the environment.

Abstract

The increasing global prevalence of oxidative stress-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders underscores the importance of developing effective antioxidant strategies. In this study, samples of ethanol extract from Bridelia micrantha (Melandean) leaves were used which were then evaluated using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) test, a method that is widely known for assessing free radical scavenging activity. The ethanol extract sample was obtained through maceration with a yield of 15.84%. Based on the DPPH test, it shows that the extract has dose-dependent inhibition of DPPH radicals, with a maximum inhibition of 66.13% at a concentration of 25 ppm. The IC50 value, calculated from regression analysis, confirmed the antioxidant potential of the extract, although it was less effective than that of vitamin C, which was used as a positive control. These findings suggest that Bridelia micrantha leaves, rich in phytochemicals such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins, have the potential as a source of natural antioxidants for managing oxidative stress-related health conditions.

Abstract

The current condition is still limited in integrated chemistry teaching materials with TPACK(TechnologicalPedagogicalContentKnowledge)especially in Green Chemistry material because this material is a new material in the realm of the merdeka curriculum in 10th Grade of E Phase in Senior High School. Teachers only use printed books as teaching materials or additional materials made in the form of PPTs and modules from the Ministry of Education. This is one of the causes of several problems in learning. This research is the initial stage as the basis for the development of an integrated green chemistry e-module with TPACK. The development model used is ADDIE which consists of five stages, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. This research is limited to the needs analysis stage which includes the analysis of Learning Outcomes (CP) of E Phase, and analysis of topics on chemistry materials, analysis of problems and needs of teachers and problems and needs of students. The data collection instrument uses interviews and questionnaires. The subjects of this study consisted of 12 chemistry teachers and 84 students from Riau and Kepulauan Riau Province. The results of this preliminary analysis research include an analysis of the subject matter of 10th Grade class while there are 5 material topics and based on the questionnaire the needs of these topics include the topics with the highest percentage to be developed into e-modules because they are considered difficult by most respondents. Then the results were also obtained that there are still some shortcomings in the teaching materials used today, so that 94% of students and 100% of teachers stated that they need the development of TPACK-based teaching materials.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze student responses to the use of a biochemistry e-module on carbohydrate material and its impact on learning independence. This quantitative descriptive research involved 40 students from the Biology and Chemistry study programs who had used the e-module. Data were collected through a questionnaire covering five indicators: ease of use, effectiveness of material delivery, level of interactivity, learning independence, and general response. The results showed that for the ease of use indicator, the carbohydrate e-module received an average response of "very good" with an average percentage of 83%. The effectiveness of material delivery scored 82.75%, while the level of interactivity reached 85.7%. However, the learning independence indicator had a lower average score (78.7%), indicating the need to strengthen self-learning motivation and encourage further exploration of additional information. The study concludes that the biochemistry e-module on carbohydrate material is effective in enhancing students' understanding but requires some improvements, such as adding a glossary feature and interactive elements to optimally support learning independence. The integration of technology in learning is expected to continue developing to improve the effectiveness of science-based education.

Abstract

The assessment of student's science process skills (SPS) on chemical bonding material in schools does not yet meet the learning outcomes of the Merdeka curriculum, because the instruments used by teachers are more focused on knowledge aspects. The purpose of this research is to develop an assessment instrument for science process skills in the topic of chemical bonding. The type of this research is Research and Development (R&D) using the Rasch model modified by Liu. This research produced 18 questions tailored to the number of learning objectives in the chemical bonding material and the indicators of scientific process skills in the Merdeka curriculum, which consist of 1) observing, 2) questioning and predicting, 3) planning and conducting investigations. 4) processing, analyzing data and information, 5) evaluating and reflecting, and 6) communicating results. The logical validity test was conducted by 5 validators consisting of 3 chemistry lecturers from FMIPA UNP and 2 chemistry teachers from State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Banuhampu. The raw validation data were analyzed using Minifaced software, which showed that the data were valid according to the model. The raw trial data on 60 students from SMAN 1 Banuhampu were analyzed using Ministep, showing that all questions met the criteria of being valid, reliable, and having good difficulty and discrimination indices according to Rasch. These results indicate that the developed instrument is effective in measuring students' SPS on chemical bonding material and can be used to support learning based on a scientific approach.

Abstract

The quality of borehole water is often affected by the high content of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) which can disrupt human health and quality of life. This study examines the effectiveness of the combination of venturi aeration and slow sand filter technology in reducing TDS levels in boreholes in East Lombok, NTB. The priority is the use of venturi aeration and slow sand filtration in an integrated manner as a combined treatment for borehole water, which has not been widely explored in previous studies. This method offers a practical, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly solution to overcome high TDS levels, especially in rural areas and areas with limited resources. These findings provide a new perspective on optimizing water treatment technologies to improve community access to clean and safe water. Sampling was carried out from six different locations and initial TDS levels were measured. The borehole water was treated through venturi aeration for 1 hour to remove dissolved gases and organic compounds, followed by filtration using a slow sand filter to filter fine particles, microorganisms, and other dissolved compounds. The results showed that venturi aeration was able to reduce TDS by 6.8% to 17.9%, while the slow sand filter provided an additional reduction of 3.1% to 8.3%. The combination of these two methods resulted in a total reduction in TDS of 11.3% to 25.8%. The effectiveness of the treatment was influenced by the iron content in the air and the structure of the sand media. Data were analyzed using the ANOVA test to determine the significance of the reduction in TDS.
