Abstract

Lichen is an association of fungi and algae, morphologically and physiologically unified as a single entity. Lichen is categorized as plants characterized by a thallus-like form. The aim of this research was to investigate the thallus morphology of lichens along the hiking trails of Bukit Mongkrang, Tawangmangu District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java Province. The research utilized an exploratory method involving exploration of locations to obtain necessary samples. Purposive sampling was employed to select research locations comprising three stations at varying altitudes. Subsequently, lichen morphology samples were identified. The results revealed three types of thalli: Crustose, Foliose, and Fruticose, with Foliose being the most dominant type at 335 individuals, and Crustose the least at 132 individuals. The most dominant surface morphology of lichen thalli was Maculae details in the species Polyblastidium albicans (Pers.) S.Y. Kondr, Lokos & Hur, while the least common surface detail was Cephalodia in the species Lepraria casiella R.C. Harris. Lichen reproductive structures identified included two types: sexual and asexual. Sexual reproductive structures consisted of Apothecia, Perithecia, and Pycnidia, while asexual reproductive structures included Isidia and Soredia. The most dominant sexual reproductive structure found was Apothecia in the species Lecanora glabrata (Ach.) Malme, and the least common was Pycnidia in the species Anaptychia palmulata (Michaux) Vain. Morphological differences among lichen types were influenced by variations in altitude, air temperature, humidity, and light intensity. Lichen was most abundant at elevations ranging from 1,712 to 1,844 meters above sea level.

Abstract

Cangkuak is a fermented food made from meat with betung bamboo shoots or kluwak, salt and rice. The fermentation process is carried out without adding microbial cultures (spontaneous) for one to three weeks in a tightly closed container. cangkuak's manufacturing technique, ingredient formulation and constituent ingredients are unique, resulting in a final product with different characteristics. Research on the presence of microbes in fermented food products (fish, milk, vegetables) has been widely conducted, but information on exploring the presence of natural microflora and the in vitro potential of fermenting bacteria in cangkuak has never been reported. This research was conducted using a survey method and the resulting data were presented descriptively. It was found that the natural microflora found in the three samples of cangkuak in Kuantan Mudik was dominated by bacteria, with the highest proportion of bacterial groups in the three cangkuak samples being fermentative bacteria (2.0 - 6.30x105 cfu/g), cellulolytic bacteria (3.30 - 5.90x105 cfu/g), amylolytic bacteria (1.70 - 4.40x105 cfu/g), proteolytic bacteria (0.12 - 7.90x105 cfu/g), lipolytic bacteria (0.08 - 0.12x105 cfu/g). Six potential fermentative isolates were obtained as evidenced by the calculation of index values, namely DK-I1 (1.59), DR-I1 (1.36), DR-I2 (2.49), DR-I3 (1.19), DKR-I1 (2.41), and DKR-I2 (2.96).

Abstract

Indonesia continues to be committed to improving the quality of human resources. This is realized through the Ministry of Education and Culture, which promotes and implements a curriculum that supports learning freedom. The application of this curriculum requires not only theoretical support but also more practical technical support, which cannot be ignored. In this regard, the Mandalika University of Education, especially the biology education department, has held workshops related to technical guidance for implementing the freedom to learn curriculum. However, it is essential to understand that there needs to be more information regarding the readiness of prospective biology teacher students to implement this curriculum. Therefore, this research was conducted to describe the level of readiness of prospective biology teacher students for independent learning. In this research, 53 prospective teacher students were involved voluntarily as respondents, including 42 women and 11 men, consisting of 12 (semester 1), 15 (semester 3), 17 (semester 5), and 9 (semester 7). The instrument used to measure the level of readiness for independent learning was adapted from the self-rating scale of self-directed learning (SRSSDL) questionnaire. Next, data regarding readiness for independent learning was analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that 16.98% were not very ready (low or unprepared), 73.58% were not ready (moderate), and 9.43% were ready (high). These results also show that prospective biology teacher students have the same level of readiness for independent learning or that there is no significant difference in readiness for independent learning based on semester differences. Apart from that, of the SRSSDL components, self-awareness and learning activities have the lowest averages (32.51 and 32.09). Thus, our respondents (in this case, prospective biology teacher students) are not ready for independent learning. Regarding what will be done next, can be seen in the conclusions and recommendations section.
