Abstract

This study aims to determine the levels of blood plasma protein in pregnant white rats (Rattus nervagicus) that consume Organic MSG and Synthetic MSG. This research method is experimental using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) by random sampling 21 pregnant white rats with 3 replications and 7 treatments consisting of positive control treatments, P1 = 0.5 ml Organic MSG, P2 = 1 ml Organic MSG, P3 = 2 ml Organic MSG, P4 = 0.5 ml Synthetic MSG, P5 = 1 ml Synthetic MSG, P6 = 2 ml Synthetic MSG for 19 days. The variables measured were blood plasma protein levels measured using a refractometer with units of g / dL. The data tested using SPSS analysis with one way ANNOVA test then continued with Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that Organic MSG had a positive effect on blood plasma protein levels which were significant to the difference in blood plasma protein levels. This can be implied in the health of pregnant rats if there is MSG that enters it will provide viscosity to the blood so that blood plasma protein will be high working hard to produce white blood cells to balance red blood cells that affect immunity. The blood plasma protein levels of pregnant white rats given liquid Organic MSG were the highest at 13.562 g/dL and the lowest at 13.55 g/dL.

Abstract

This study aims to identify potential antimalarial compounds targeting the Plasmodium falciparum lactate dehydrogenase enzyme (PfLDH), given the parasite's dependency on glycolysis for energy production. Considering the high similarity of LDH enzymes across Plasmodium species, developing novel PfLDH inhibitors may offer therapeutic benefits, particularly against P. vivax, P. malariae, and P. ovale. Computational approaches were employed to screen natural compounds from the Cratoxylum genus (Cratoxylum glaucum and Cratoxylum arborescens). Molecular docking was performed using Molegro Virtual Docking (MVD) to assess binding affinity. SwissADME was utilized to evaluate pharmacokinetic, physicochemical, synthetic accessibility properties, and ProTox II was used for toxicity prediction. Molecular docking results indicated that fuscaxanthone C and 3-geranyloxy-6-methyl-1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone exhibited strong inhibitory activity against PfLDH, with rerank scores of -103.068 kcal/mol and -111.141 kcal/mol, respectively surpassing the reference ligand chloroquine (-94.307 kcal/mol). Pharmacokinetic analysis revealed that all compounds, except stigmasterol and fuscaxanthone C, met Lipinski’s Rule of Five. Toxicity prediction categorized fuscaxanthone C as Class III (toxic). Additionally, synthetic accessibility predictions indicated that all compounds, except stigmasterol, are easy to synthesize. Natural compounds from the Cratoxylum genus, particularly 3-geranyloxy-6-methyl-1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone, show promise as PfLDH inhibitors. Despite its potency, fuscaxanthone C's toxicity profile warrants caution. Further studies are needed to validate these findings through in vitro and in vivo testing.

Abstract

Skin dehydration is a common issue affecting 40–50% of the adult population, resulting in dry, rough, and dull skin, as well as itching, irritation, and premature aging. The "back to nature" trend has increased interest in natural skincare products that are more environmentally friendly and gentler on the skin. Virgin coconut oil (VCO) is a popular natural ingredient known for its ability to maintain skin moisture and provide protection. This study aims to develop a liquid soap formulation using VCO to address skin dehydration. The research methods included formulation and evaluation of liquid soap through organoleptic testing, foam stability, specific gravity, pH, as well as hedonic and irritation tests. The results showed that: (1) Formula III met all physical evaluation parameters, including organoleptic characteristics, foam stability and height, specific gravity, and pH, in accordance with SNI standards; (2) Formula III was the most preferred by panelists in the hedonic test and caused no skin irritation based on irritation test results. Therefore, Formula III can be concluded as the optimal formulation for VCO-based liquid bath soap.
