Abstract

In the context of 21st-century education development, educators are increasingly designing instructional methods aimed at equipping students with essential competencies to meet the unique demands of this era. Core skills such as expert thinking, effective communication, exploratory collaboration, and creative learning activities are fundamental for navigating the complexities of modern life and the global workforce. However, these competencies alone are insufficient for future readiness. This article argues that deeper cognitive and socio-cultural stimulation is necessary for students’ success in the 21st century. Drawing from relevant literature, this study proposes that educators should emphasize three interrelated capabilities: strengthening philosophical literacy as a foundational skill; enhancing the ability to comprehend and respond to social environments; and cultivating cross-cultural understanding. Furthermore, this article recommends a structured pedagogical approach that includes brainstorming activities, fostering life wisdom, and promoting intercultural information exchange among students. These strategies are expected to better prepare learners for global educational and professional challenges in the 21st century.

Abstract

This study explores the role of accreditation-standard-oriented supervision in enhancing the quality of education at STAI Kharisma Cicurug Sukabumi, a faith-based higher education institution. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that supervision aligned with national accreditation standards significantly contributes to educational quality improvement. Key supervisory components such as structured planning, performance monitoring, constructive feedback, and systematic follow-up have led to notable enhancements in lecturer competencies, curriculum relevance, and student satisfaction. However, the implementation process is not without challenges, including limited human resources, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient understanding of accreditation mechanisms among academic staff. A distinctive contribution of this study is its focus on how participatory supervision can be effectively applied within an Islamic higher education context—demonstrating that such institutions can adopt modern quality assurance strategies without compromising their religious identity. The study underscores the importance of building supervisory capacity through regular training, integrating digital technologies to streamline supervision processes, and increasing institutional investment in quality assurance infrastructures. These efforts are essential to ensure sustainability and continuous improvement in meeting accreditation standards. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, administrators, and educators seeking to improve academic quality and institutional performance in similar educational settings.

Abstract

Full-Day School (FDS) in Islamic elementary education requires adaptive management grounded in instructional leadership theory to integrate academic and religious learning within extended daily schedules. This study analyzed the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the FDS program at SD Islam Plus Al-Haqiqi, Sidoarjo, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing its sustainability. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach with 32 purposively selected participants, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using the Miles Huberman Saldaña interactive model. The findings reveal that participatory adaptive planning aligned the national curriculum with Islamic character education goals; teachers enacted dual roles as instructional leaders through flexible pedagogy and structured active breaks; and continuous adaptive evaluation enabled rapid instructional adjustments. Institutional commitment, teacher efficacy, and parental involvement supported the program, while limited infrastructure and student fatigue posed challenges. The study proposes an adaptive-leadership model for Islamic schools with limited resources and recommends the use of well-being-oriented evaluation instruments, targeted professional development in adaptive leadership, and appropriate educational technologies to strengthen the program’s long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Early Childhood Education is a formative stage in children’s cognitive, social, and moral development, where teacher–child interaction contributes not only to learning outcomes but also to the internalization of cultural and religious values. In pesantren-based educational settings, these interactions are shaped by local traditions and Islamic norms. This study aims to explore the pragmatic dimensions of teacher–child interaction in a pesantren-affiliated kindergarten in Babakan, Ciwaringin, Cirebon, an area recognized for its strong Islamic educational heritage. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied. Data were collected through classroom observations, audio recordings, and semi-structured interviews with teachers. The data were transcribed and analysed using frameworks from speech act theory, politeness theory, and conversational implicature to identify the forms and functions of teacher communication. The findings show that directive speech acts are the most dominant, reflecting the teacher’s central role in classroom management, moral guidance, and ritual instruction. Expressive and representative speech acts are frequently used to provide praise, encouragement, and knowledge, while commissive and declarative acts, though less common, perform important pedagogical and spiritual functions, such as shaping discipline and reinforcing religious practices. This research contributes to pragmatics by extending its application to religio-cultural education and offers insights for educators and policymakers in designing communication strategies that are both effective and culturally responsive.

Abstract

Inclusive education aims to provide equal learning opportunities for all students, including those with special needs, by fostering collaboration and diversity within classroom environments. However, its successful implementation in Indonesia’s madrasahs remains a challenge, particularly due to limited teacher readiness and lack of special education expertise. This study explores the role of teacher self-efficacy as a key factor in the success of inclusive education in four madrasahs in Banten Province. Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation analysis. Thematic analysis and triangulation methods were applied to ensure data validity and reliability. The findings reveal that teachers’ self-efficacy strongly influences their motivation, classroom management, and responsiveness to the diverse needs of students with disabilities. Most assistant teachers lack formal training in special education and rely on self-directed learning or informal peer support, leading to varied implementation quality. Teachers with high self-efficacy demonstrate greater perseverance, creativity, and emotional resilience, while those with low self-efficacy tend to experience anxiety and reduced teaching effectiveness. The study highlights the importance of distributed leadership, continuous professional development, and institutional support in strengthening teacher self-efficacy. It concludes that enhancing self-efficacy among madrasah teachers is essential to sustaining inclusive education that aligns with both pedagogical goals and Islamic values of compassion and equality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effect of School-Based Management (SBM) and the leadership style of school principals on teacher performance and its implications for student academic achievement at SMK Tarbiyatunnasyiin Jombang. The research uses a correlational quantitative approach with a field research design, where data is collected through questionnaires, observations, and literature studies. The analysis is carried out using a statistical model to determine the direct and indirect relationships between variables. The results show that School-Based Management (SBM) plays an important role in improving academic achievement by strengthening teacher performance. In addition, the principal’s leadership style has an influence on improving teacher performance, although it does not directly have a significant effect on student academic achievement. Thus, the combination of effective SBM implementation and participatory leadership by the principal is a key factor in creating optimal teacher performance and improving the quality of education in schools. Theoretically, this research enriches the study of adaptive, collaborative, and quality-oriented Islamic education management. Practically, the results of this study can be used as a reference for school principals and education policymakers in developing leadership strategies and school management that focus on empowering teachers and improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The pesantren, as Indonesia’s oldest Islamic educational institution, has long been central to shaping the religious and socio-cultural identity of Muslim communities. In Banten, pesantren represent deep traditional roots linked to the intellectual legacy of prominent scholars such as Shaykh Nawawi al-Bantani. Yet, the pressures of globalization and the influence of Islamic reform movements have positioned pesantren at the intersection of competing discourses—traditionalist, modernist, and transnational. This study explores the dialectical challenges encountered by pesantren in Banten as they negotiate among these currents. Using a qualitative approach that combines literature review and selected case studies, the research reveals the dynamic strategies employed by traditionalist pesantren to preserve classical Islamic learning while accommodating modern educational demands. Modernist pesantren, in turn, advocate for rationalism, curricular innovation, and the integration of secular sciences, though not without resistance from traditionalists. Meanwhile, transnational Islamic movements such as Salafism, Hizb ut-Tahrir, and Tablighi Jamaat introduce alternative notions of orthodoxy and authority. The study concludes that pesantren in Banten are undergoing a continuous process of negotiation that redefines their identity, demonstrating both resilience and adaptability in a rapidly globalizing Islamic context.
