Abstract

In Indonesia, there are a number of foundations which were established by the ex-terrorist inmates as a new community towards peace and a way of empowerment for the ex-terrorist inmates. The involvement of ex-terrorist inmates in disengagement strategy in Indonesia has also raised pro(s) and con(s). This research aims to explore the involvement of ex-terrorist inmates in disengagement strategy in Indonesia. This kind of involvement is hoped to become a softer approach because it focuses more in using kinship method, in a way that it will be easier to gain trust, and the people have the same experience and background in terrorism. The methodology used in this research is a qualitative with interview technique. This research found that the phenomenon of the arousal of new communities towards peace which was established by ex-terrorist inmates and combatants is a positive thing as a new medium for those inmates and other inmates who has the desire to come and disengage from violence. However, this kind of phenomenon has to be guided, guarded and controlled by the government in order to keep it in line with the true purpose of deradicalization and counter strategy of terrorism in Indonesia.

All of the cultural aspects that shape radicalization are part of a unique prison culture, as the subculture of terrorism. Abstract

The presence of armed terrorist groups in Poso can threaten security conditions in the country because their activities are considered quite dangerous for the surrounding community. This terrorist group did not hesitate to kill civilians who tried to deny its existence. Therefore, various joint military operations have been launched to crush this armed terrorist group, such as Camar Maleo and Tinombala. However, until now this terrorist group is difficult to destroy, due to the condition of the operating area in the form of dense tropical rainforest and steep slopes. This makes it difficult for troops to carry out chases and hunting. Through smartphone technology, troops can read operating field conditions much more easily and can predict far-field conditions in front of them more quickly. The concept used is the incorporation of raster data, vectors, and DEM which are processed using GIS (Geographic Information System) software with smartphone devices based on Android. The result is a smartphone device that has been inserted geospatial-based data used by troops in the operating field in the hunt for terrorists.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the end of the Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan (PKK) in Turkey. The PKK is a terrorist organization based on the aim of separatism from Turkey. Since its founding in 1978 until now, various acts of terror have been carried out by the PKK and Turkish authorities view the PKK as the most dangerous terrorist organization in its territory. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. Politicization factors are the main variable in analyzing the end of the PKK in Turkey. The result of the analysis is that the PKK will soon end through constitutional agreements through Kurdish representatives in the Turkish parliament which were won by HDP, a pro-Kurdish political party. HDP's success as the first pro-Kurdish party to enter the Turkish parliament even broke the 10% threshold, becoming an important momentum for the PKK and the Turkish government to conduct constitutional negotiations. Keywords: terrorism organizations, Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan (PKK), Turkey, politicization.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the new risks that emerged in mitigating the risk of FETO (Fethullah Gulen Terrorist Organization) in Turkey during President Erdogan's era. By having its own view of the state order and its strong network in 150 countries, the Gulen Movement is considered to threaten the existence of the ideology of the Turkish state, especially during the leadership of President Erdogan. After the failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016, the Gulen Movement was designated as a dangerous group called FETO as it was considered responsible for the incident. Furthermore, the Turkish government adopted an anti-terror policy that was preventive to repressive by implementing risk management in it. This article uses a qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of literature studies which include: Official Document Based, and Internet Based Research. Using Selchow's (2014) four dynamics, this article finds that the actions taken by the Turkish government have an impact on the emergence of new problems and risks. These risks include the degradation of democracy and human rights violations, especially for Turkish citizens who are exposed to the “clean the state” agenda.

Abstract

Since it’s dissolution in 2017, HTI ex-members transformed into multiple communities and utilizing internet to conduct propaganda, recruitment, and coordination. Covid-19 pandemic created new opportunity for spread of radicalism because of economic recession and increased poverty. HTI ex-members continue the struggle through underbouw organizations like GEMA Pembebasan, BacktoMuslimIdentity Community (BMI), and MuslimahNewsId. Rise in internet usage during pandemic helps expose people to HTI khilafah propaganda. Uploaded contents are provocative and targeting mainly millennials and women. This increased the potential of sectarian conflict and proliferation of radical islamist movement in the coming years. Government could tackle this by providing Islamic education in college, conducting contra-narration in social media, accelerating economic recovery, and strengthening the implementation of Pancasila.
