Abstract

Problem solving ability is an important competence in learning mathematics, but the results of observations at SMPN 15 Mataram showed that the ability is still relatively low. This study aims to determine the effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Math Magic Card media on the ability to solve math problems of grade VIII students of SMPN 15 Mataram academic year 2025/2026. The type of research used is quasi-experimental with posttest-only nonequivalent group design. The study population was all students of Class VIII, with a sample of two classes, namely Class VIII J as an experimental group that applies the PBL model assisted by Math Magic Card and Class VIII K as a control group that applies the conventional learning model. Data were collected through a test of problem-solving skills in the form of problem descriptions prepared based on Polya indicators. The test has been validated by an expert (validator) and declared valid for use in research. Based on the results of the normality test shows that the research data are normally distributed and homogeneity test results show that the variance between groups is homogeneous. Then an independent t-test was conducted to determine the difference in the average problem solving ability of experimental class and control class with the results of at 5% significance level so that there is a significant difference between the two groups. The results showed that the average value of the experimental class posttest of 64.12 higher than the control class which only reached 50.23. The effect size value of 0.60 indicates the moderate influence of the application of PBL assisted Math Magic Card on students ' math problem solving skills. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of PBL models with the help of Math Magic Card media has an effect on improving students ' mathematical problem solving skills.

Abstract

The ability of students to solve Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) problems in mathematics remains low,leading to frequent errors during problem-solving processes. Differences in the types of errors made bystudents based on their metacognitive levels have also not been widely examined in depth. This study aimsto describe Newman’s types of errors based on students’ metacognitive levels in solving HOTS questions onthe Pythagorean Theorem. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 32 ninthgradestudents of class IX.1 at MTsN 1 Mataram in the 2025/2026 academic year. The instruments usedincluded a metacognitive skills questionnaire, a HOTS-based written test, and interview guidelines. Theresults show that students with high metacognitive levels tended to make errors in the transformation,process skills, and encoding stages. Students with moderate metacognitive levels made errors from thecomprehension to the transformation stages, while students with low metacognitive levels made errors inalmost all stages of Newman’s procedure. This study concludes that the lower the students’ metacognitivelevel, the higher the frequency and variety of errors that appear when solving HOTS problems.

Abstract

Kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan kepercayaan diri merupakan dua aspek penting dalam pembelajaran matematika, namun keduanya masih menjadi permasalahan di banyak sekolah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa dengan kepercayaan diri siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif korelasional. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa SMP kelas VII dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 30 siswa. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen tes tertulis kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan angket kepercayaan diri siswa. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji korelasi Pearson. Hasil penelitian yang di dapatkan pada penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa dan kepercayaan diri siswa dengan kategori hubungan sedang. Siswa dengan tingkat kepercayaan diri tinggi cenderung menunjukkan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis yang lebih baik. Faktor kepercayaan diri mempengaruhi kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis sebesar 22,75 % dan sisanya sebesar 77,25 % dipengaruhi faktor lain.

Abstract

This study aims to provide a concrete illustration of the application of systems of linear equations in two variables (SPLDV) and two-variable linear programming in solving real-world problems commonly encountered in daily life. The background of this research is rooted in the persistently low ability of students and small business practitioners to apply linear mathematical concepts to support decision-making processes, such as determining product prices and optimizing production. Using a descriptive method with a conceptual quantitative approach, this study presents two illustrative case studies: the determination of unit prices for stationery products through SPLDV, and the optimization of the production combination of woven bags and mats in a rattan-based small enterprise through two-variable linear programming under time constraints. The results indicate that SPLDV can objectively determine product prices based on transaction data, while linear programming provides an optimal solution in the form of producing 12 bags and 6 mats, yielding a maximum profit of IDR 1,320,000. These findings demonstrate that linear mathematical models serve as effective and applicable tools to support decision-making in both microeconomic contexts and mathematics education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of deep learning in predicting students’ mathematics learning outcomes based on their learning styles. This research employs a quantitative approach using descriptive, inferential, and predictive analysis techniques based on deep learning. The research sample consisted of 61 eleventh-grade students from SMAN 12 Bandar Lampung. Data were collected through a learning style questionnaire based on the VARK model (Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic) and a mathematics achievement test (posttest). Descriptive analysis results showed that the most dominant learning style was read/write. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test indicated that the data were not normally distributed, so the analysis was continued using the Kruskal–Wallis test. The results showed an Asymp. Sig value of 0.684 (> 0.05), indicating no significant difference in mathematics learning outcomes among dominant learning style groups. Nevertheless, the implementation of deep learning still shows potential in assisting the prediction of learning outcomes by considering various factors such as motivation, teaching methods, and learning environment.

Abstract

Low conceptual understanding in mathematics remains a significant challenge in the learning process and highlights the need for more effective and innovative pedagogical strategies. This issue is often caused by conventional teaching practices and the limited use of learning media in schools, leading students to develop negative attitudes toward mathematics and resulting in weak conceptual understanding. This study aims to develop a mathematics learning medium in the form of the Debar application, designed with Construct 3 for SMA/SMK. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. Data were collected from expert validators, mathematics teachers, and tenth-grade students at SMK PGRI 1 Denpasar through questionnaires and tests. The validation results showed that the Debar application was categorized as “very valid”. The practicality test indicated that the application was “practical”. Furthermore, the effectiveness test revealed that the students’ learning mastery percentage reached 86.7%. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Debar application meets the criteria of being valid, practical, and effective, thus making it feasible to be used as a mathematics learning medium that facilitates the reinforcement of students’ conceptual understanding. The validation test results showed that the Debar application was categorized as “very valid.” The practicality test also indicated that the application was “practical.” Meanwhile, the effectiveness test results revealed that the percentage of students’ learning mastery reached 86.7%. Thus, it can be concluded that the Debar application meets the criteria of being valid, practical, and effective, as well as providing psychological support in the mathematics learning process, thereby serving as a learning medium that facilitates the strengthening of students’ conceptual understanding. Moreover, engaging in learning media can foster students’ positive attitudes toward mathematics.

Abstract

Subject scheduling in schools, such as at Nurul Amaliyah Senior High School in Tanjung Morawa, is often done manually using Microsoft Excel, which is time-consuming and prone to errors and scheduling conflicts. This study aims to apply the concept of graph coloring with the Greedy algorithm to address the subject scheduling problem at the school. In its implementation, each unique teaching session is modeled as a vertex, and conflicts between sessions (e.g., the same teacher or class at the same time) are represented as edges in a graph. The Greedy Graph Coloring algorithm is then applied to assign a color to each session, ensuring that no conflicting sessions receive the same color. The result is an allocation of sessions into basic, conflict-free abstract time slots, which are then mapped to a concrete daily schedule. The resulting schedule is proven valid in avoiding conflicts between teachers and classes occupying the same time slot. However, due to the inherent nature of the Greedy algorithm, which does not explicitly consider the specific number of sessions per day per class or other daily distributions, the resulting schedule structure may not be fully optimal under all desired daily constraints, even if the fundamental conflict has been resolved. This study demonstrates that graph coloring with the Greedy algorithm can provide a practical and effective solution for developing conflict-free lesson schedules in schools.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menguji efektivitas penggunaan model pembelajaran Teams Games Tournament (TGT) berbantuan media G-Bat dalam meningkatatkan pemahan konsep matematika siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif pre-eksperimental dengan desain one group pretest-posttest. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 20 siswa kelas V SD 4 Karangbener. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes pretest dan posttest yang terdiri dari 5 soal uraian yang mengukur ndicator pemahaman konsep matematika. Adapun teknik analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji normalitas Shapiro-Wilk dan uji hipotesis Paired Sample T-Test dengan bantuan SPSS 25. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes, wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi serta teknik analisisis data menggunakan uji normalitas dan uji hipotesis dengan uji Paired Sample T-Test. Hasil dari uji Paired Sample T-Test mendapatkan nilai Sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0,000 < 0,05 sehingga Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan rata-rata nilai pemahaman konsep matematika siswa sebelum dan sesudah penggunaan model Teams Games Tournament (TGT) berbantuan media G-Bat.

Abstract

The low mathematical literacy of Indonesian students based on PISA results necessitates innovation in mathematics learning. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of peatland-based digital comic media (Electronic comic of Peatland/E-colands) in improving junior high school students' mathematical literacy and to reveal the dilemma of improving mathematical literacy occurring in grades VII, VIII, and IX. The research method used was quantitative with a pretest-posttest group design. The research sample consisted of 23 grade VII students, 26 grade VIII students, and 26 grade IX students selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through mathematical literacy tests in descriptive form and analyzed using descriptive statistics, followed by t-test and n-gain score analysis. The results showed that E-colands media was effective in improving mathematical literacy with a medium improvement category in all classes (n-gain: VII=0.68; VIII=0.41; IX=0.55). However, a dilemma was found where the significant improvement only changed the literacy criteria from low to medium in class VII, while classes VIII and IX remained in the low category even though their scores increased. This dilemma indicates the presence of cumulative learning loss, differences in psychological and motivational factors, and the need for longer and more integrated interventions for holistic mathematical literacy improvement.
