Ancestral heritage holds a strategic position in shaping the identity of the Indonesian nation. As a country consisting of hundreds of ethnic groups, languages, and traditions, cultural heritage serves as the foundation of values, a symbol of national identity, and a form of social capital for the nation’s sustainability. However, the era of globalization presents new challenges, including the penetration of foreign cultures, rapid modernization, and the weakening transmission of cultural values to younger generations. This study aims to comprehensively examine the role of ancestral heritage in building national identity, analyze the impact of globalization on the sustainability of local traditions, and formulate relevant preservation strategies in contemporary contexts. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach with literature study as the primary data collection technique. The literature analyzed includes theories of anthropology, cultural sociology, concepts of national identity, and UNESCO documents related to cultural heritage preservation. The findings indicate that ancestral heritage is not only aesthetic and historical in nature but also contains philosophical and ethical values that can serve as guiding principles for modern society. On the other hand, globalization has ambivalent impacts: it opens spaces for creativity while simultaneously posing a threat to the integrity of local cultural identities. Cultural preservation strategies must involve formal and nonformal education, revitalization of traditional communities, digital innovation, and strong governmental policy support. Through collaborative reinforcement, ancestral heritage can remain alive and relevant, even becoming a national strength in facing global dynamics.

The increasing prevalence of short-form video platforms has expanded opportunities for informal English learning beyond traditional classroom settings. TikTok has garnered a lot of interest among these platforms because of its microlearning features and high student engagement levels; nevertheless, there is still no empirical data connecting TikTok engagement to independent vocabulary acquisition. The purpose of this study is to look at the connection between EFL university students' self-directed vocabulary learning and their involvement with English TikTok videos. 86 undergraduate EFL students from a state institution in Palangka Raya, Indonesia, participated in the study, which used a quantitative correlational design. Two validated tools were used to gather data: the Self-Directed Vocabulary Learning Scale, which evaluates goal-setting, self-monitoring, and self-evaluation, and the TikTok Video Engagement Scale, which measures behavioural, affective, and cognitive involvement. Descriptive statistics and Pearson's product-moment correlation analysis were used to analyse the data. Higher levels of involvement were linked to more autonomous vocabulary acquisition practices, according to the results, which showed substantial positive correlations between all aspects of TikTok engagement and self-directed vocabulary learning (r =.445–.674, p <.001). Self-monitoring and self-evaluation were most strongly correlated with affective and cognitive involvement. These results imply that watching English-language TikTok videos has a significant positive impact on pupils' self-directed vocabulary growth. The study provides pedagogical implications for using digital interaction to improve learner autonomy and vocabulary acquisition in higher education and indicates that TikTok can serve as an effective supplemental microlearning tool in EFL situations.

This study aims to uncover the hidden sign system and meanings in the drama script Matahari di Sebuah Jalan Kecil by Arifin C. Noor using Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. The drama depicts the social conditions of lower-class communities facing economic pressure, moral conflict, social inequality, and the erosion of interpersonal trust in everyday life (Azizah et al., 2025). This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with semiotic analysis consisting of three main levels: denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings indicate that important signs in the drama, such as the symbol “Sun” and the characters “Pemuda” and “Simbok,” represent profound social criticism of poverty, corruption, injustice, and the decline of empathy within society. Through Barthes’ semiotics, Pemuda’s inability to pay for food is not merely interpreted as an economic incident but as a sign of social despair. This condition is further reinforced by the myth that poor people are inherently associated with dishonesty. Overall, the drama reflects a complex social reality rich in humanistic critique.

This research is motivated by students' low understanding of the abstract nature of metamorphosis, as well as the dominance of the lecture method in science learning, which results in low conceptual mastery. This study aims to improve science learning outcomes in metamorphosis through the use of dioramas for third-grade students at SDN Gudang Kopi 1. The method used was a qualitative approach with the Kemmis and McTaggart Classroom Action Research (CAR) model, implemented in two cycles. The research subjects consisted of 20 third-grade students. Data collection techniques included observation results, implementation of the CAR cycles, and documentation. The results showed a significant increase in the percentage of student learning completion, from 90% in the initial data to 98% in cycle I, and reaching 100% in cycle II. A comparison of pre-test and post-test scores also showed an increase in student abilities from the adequate to excellent category. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the use of dioramas is effective in improving students' science learning outcomes because it can present abstract concepts in a more concrete, visual, and interactive way, as well as increasing student enthusiasm and active involvement in the learning process.

This study examines the dichotomy of religious and general knowledge in the context of Islamic education, as well as its epistemological implications for efforts to integrate knowledge. The dichotomy of knowledge, which separates religious knowledge (ilmu syar'iyyah) from general knowledge (ilmu kauniyyah), has become a profound issue affecting Islamic education in various parts of the world, including Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach based on library research, this study analyzes the historical and epistemological roots of this dichotomy and its impact on the development of holistic Islamic education. The results indicate that this separation of knowledge stems from the influence of colonialism, the secularization of education, and the epistemological crisis experienced by Muslims. This study also reveals that, from an Islamic perspective, knowledge should be viewed as an integral whole, with both religious and general knowledge originating from the same source, namely Allah SWT, and should not be separated. Therefore, this study offers a solution for integrating knowledge based on the epistemology of monotheism, with the hope of reconstructing the Islamic education system to be more harmonious, interdisciplinary, and relevant to the needs of the times. This integration is expected to strengthen the development of a more advanced Islamic civilization by combining religious values and scientific advancement.

Katoneng-katoneng songs are an important element in the Karo community’s cawir metua funeral ceremony, a traditional ritual performed when a person dies at an advanced age after completing all stages of customary life. In this ceremony, katoneng-katoneng serves not only as musical accompaniment but also as a medium for conveying customary, emotional, and symbolic messages. This study focuses on the functions of katoneng-katoneng in the cawir metua ceremony and examines the musical forms and structures used in its performance. The research aims to explain how musical elements and textual content support the ritual process and construct social and cultural meanings for the Karo community. This study uses a descriptive analytical method through field observation, interviews, audio-visual recording, musical transcription, and structural analysis. The analysis is guided by Koentjaraningrat’s cultural anthropology framework, Alan P. Merriam’s theory of musical functions, and the semiotic theories of Ferdinand de Saussure and Roland Barthes. The results show that katoneng-katoneng has seven main functions: aesthetic appreciation, entertainment, communication, symbolism, reinforcement of social norms, cultural continuity, and social integration. Thus, katoneng-katoneng preserves and strengthens Karo cultural identity.

This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. This research aims to address the low mastery of Arabic vocabulary of eighth-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Mariso through the implementation of a digital micromodule based on Heyzine Flipbook. The subjects of this research were all 15 eighth-grade students with a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis techniques used qualitative and quantitative. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the conditions of cycle I successfully improved compared to the pre-cycle conditions with an average of 84.61 and a completion percentage of 70%. Because it had not met the 75% success criteria, the action continued to Cycle II. This Cycle II focused on qualitative improvements, namely improving classroom management by researchers to address discipline problems and lack of student concentration detected in Cycle I as well as checking the availability of teaching materials. This corrective action was completely successful, resulting in a significant increase with an average of 91.15 and a completion percentage of 92%, exceeding the set target. Qualitatively, students responded positively to the micromodule media because its interactive and audio-visual format (especially the songs) was considered fun and exciting, which effectively increased motivation and facilitated vocabulary recall. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Heyzine Flipbook-based digital micromodule was proven to be successful and comprehensive in improving students' Arabic vocabulary mastery.
