Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of religious moderation policies in IAIN Ponorogo, Indonesia, and their impact on fostering social cohesion and cultivating a moderate identity within the academic community. Employing a qualitative case study methodology, data were collected through comprehensive interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and document reviews. The findings revealed significant progress in integrating religious moderation values into the curriculum, research activities, and community service programs. The establishment of the Religious Moderation House (RMB) has been instrumental in reinforcing these values through seminars, workshops, and outreach. However, challenges persist in achieving a consistent understanding and application of moderation principles among academic stakeholders. The survey results indicate that while a majority of students, faculty, and staff report positive changes in attitudes after participating in moderation programs, some individuals still struggle to fully grasp and internalize these values. Psychological and cultural factors, along with varying levels of commitment across faculties, present additional barriers to comprehensive adoption of a moderate identity. Despite these challenges, this study highlights the positive impact of religious moderation initiatives on promoting tolerance, reducing social tension, and preparing students for engagement with broader societal diversity. The findings emphasize the need for enhanced coordination, practical incentives, and continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of these programmes. By embedding religious moderation into its core strategic plans, IAIN Ponorogo could continue to empower its academic community to embody these values, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and harmonious educational environment.

Abstract

This study investigated the influence of parenting styles on children's moral behavior in Pidoli Lombang Village, Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Regency, Indonesia. A quantitative approach using a survey method was employed, with a sample of 30 children aged 7 to 12 years selected through random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires distributed to the children's parents or guardians, which assessed parenting styles (authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive) and children's moral behavior. Validity and reliability tests were conducted to ensure data quality. Prerequisite tests, including the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and Levene's test for homogeneity of variances, were performed before the main analysis. Descriptive statistics revealed that authoritative parenting was the most predominantly practiced style in the village. A simple linear regression analysis showed a significant positive relationship between authoritative parenting and children's moral behavior, while authoritarian and permissive parenting styles exhibited negative relationships. The findings suggest that a balanced approach to parenting, combining discipline with emotional support, positively contributes to children's moral development. The study highlights the importance of implementing authoritative parenting in shaping positive moral behavior in children and provides valuable insights for parents, educators, and policymakers in fostering responsible ethical behavior in children within the context of rural Indonesian communities.

Abstract

Indonesia, with the world's largest Muslim population, has seen significant growth in its halal industry driven by increasing awareness of Islamic ethical values and government initiatives. However, the regulatory framework governing halal certification remains fragmented and complex, leading to implementation challenges and legal uncertainty. This study critically examines Indonesia's halal industry policies, focusing on the Halal Product Assurance (JPH) Law and its alignment with Islamic principles of halal (permissible) and thayyib (wholesome). Employing a qualitative approach, this study analyzes legal documents and the existing literature to identify regulatory overlaps, institutional inefficiencies, and barriers for small and medium enterprises. The findings highlight the need for harmonization of regulations, clarity on the validity period of halal certificates, and improved coordination among government agencies. The study also evaluates the effectiveness of policies in achieving compliance, consumer trust, and socioeconomic benefits, revealing persistent gaps and inconsistencies in enforcement. By contextualizing the JPH framework within Gustav Radbruch's legal philosophy, this study underscores the importance of balancing legal certainty, expediency, and justice. The study concludes that comprehensive improvements in Indonesia's halal industry policies have the potential to enhance consumer confidence, product competitiveness, and the country's position as a global halal industry hub, while emphasizing the need for further empirical research to refine the understanding of the underlying Islamic values and sociocultural dynamics.

Abstract

Verbal abuse by parents can significantly affect adolescents' decision-making abilities. This qualitative study investigated the experiences of five adolescents aged 16-20 years in North Binjai, Indonesia who were subjected to verbal violence by their parents. Using Simon's Decision-Making Model, this study explored how cognitive, emotional, and self-confidence factors interact with parenting styles and cultural norms to shape adolescents' decision-making process. In-depth interviews, observations, and additional documentation revealed that verbal abuse, manifested through yelling, harsh language, and belittling, has substantial negative effects on adolescents' cognitive processes, emotional stability, and self-confidence. These factors are essential for effective decision making, particularly in the stages of intelligence, design, choice, and implementation. However, two of the five adolescents exhibited relatively stronger decision-making abilities, suggesting that social support, personal coping strategies, and other protective elements may help alleviate some adverse effects associated with authoritarian parenting and verbal abuse. The study highlighted the importance of evaluating and reconsidering child-rearing methods in the context of adolescent decision-making, especially in cultures where verbal abuse is often considered a "normal" form of discipline. These findings underscore the need for interventions and support systems to help adolescents develop resilience and decision-making skills in the face of verbal abuse.

Abstract

This study discusses the dual role conflict and resilience of working mothers during the Covid-19 pandemic, a new event that has provided many challenges for working mothers in carrying out both their roles in the domestic and public spheres. The Covid-19 pandemic presents extraordinary and unprecedented situations, such as the implementation of work from home, distance learning for schoolchildren, and social restrictions. These conditions created new pressures that were more intense than those before the pandemic. Using qualitative methods and a phenomenological approach, data in this study were collected through in-depth interviews and non-participatory observations and then tested for validity using triangulation techniques and bracketing of interview transcripts. This research was conducted in Ponorogo Regency, East Java, for approximately six months using eight working mothers as research subjects or informants. The results showed that: 1) all eight working mothers experienced dual role conflict in the form of time-based conflict and strain-based conflict, especially during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic; 2) efforts that have been made by working mothers to be resilient in undergoing both roles during the Covid-19 pandemic represent seven aspects of forming individual resilience, namely, emotion regulation, impulse control, causal analysis, self-efficacy, optimism, empathy, and reaching out. These findings emphasize the need for support for working mothers facing various challenges and difficulties in difficult times, such as a pandemic. The support needed can come from various parties, ranging from family members themselves, especially spouses, friends, and the surrounding environment, to the government.

Abstract

Reog Ponorogo, a traditional Indonesian art form, plays a significant role in shaping the creative economy and cultural identity of the Ponorogo Regency. Despite their cultural importance and economic potential, the distribution of economic benefits among stakeholders remains unequal, leaving many artists economically vulnerable. This study explores the application of John Rawls’s principles of economic justice to address income disparities and foster an inclusive creative economy in the Reog Ponorogo ecosystem. Through a qualitative phenomenological approach, this research examines the lives of art actors and stakeholders, as well as the creative economic empowerment strategies implemented by the local government. The findings reveal a significant income gap between performers, who earn a modest income of 50,000–300,000 rupiah per performance, and entrepreneurs dealing with Reog attributes and souvenirs, who can generate a turnover of up to 100 million rupiah per month. Applying Rawls' principles of equal basic freedom and the difference principle, this study proposes policy recommendations and strategies to ensure fair access to opportunities, the equitable distribution of income, education and capacity building, market expansion, and policy support. By aligning these elements with Rawls' principles, the creative economy can celebrate cultural heritage, while promoting economic growth and social equality. This study bridges the gaps in the existing literature by integrating cultural preservation with economic empowerment, offering valuable insights for policymakers, cultural practitioners, and scholars in fostering an inclusive and sustainable creative economy.

Abstract

This study explores the use of metaphors and idioms in Wayang, a traditional Javanese art form, and its potential to convey Islamic character values. The research analyzes five popular Wayang plays, namely Banjaran Noroyono, Banjaran Bima, Wiratha Parwa, Wahyu Makutha Rama, and Babat Wanamerta, to identify and categorize various metaphorical and idiomatic expressions. The study employs a qualitative approach using an inductive method that involves the observation of Wayang performances, examination of corresponding manuscripts, and systematic documentation of metaphorical and idiomatic structural units. The analysis revealed 52 patterns of metaphors and idioms encompassing figurative, personification, simile, verbal, phrase, sentence, and adjectival idioms. These expressions convey a wide range of meanings, from descriptive phenomena and social values to complex concepts, such as hedonism, pessimism, and domestic issues. Moreover, metaphors and idioms reflect diverse character traits, including responsibility, courage, patriotism, honesty, and humility, which align with Islamic teachings. This study highlights the potential of Wayang metaphors and idioms to enrich dialogue between Javanese culture and Islamic values, fostering tolerance, inclusivity, and cultural preservation in the era of globalization. Despite the limitations of focusing on the five selected plays, the research underscores the significance of harmonizing religious and cultural values to promote a more civilized society.

Abstract

The revitalization of the Beran Field in Bangunsari Village, Dolopo District, and Madiun Regency has transformed an abandoned area into a vibrant public space and tourist destination, significantly impacting the welfare and economy of the local community. This study analyzes the strategies implemented by the local government, the forms of revitalization undertaken, and the resulting effects on the community. The two-stage revitalization process involved physical interventions such as the construction of a jogging track, playground, and improved facilities. The establishment of the "Guyub Rukun Sejahtera’ traders' association played a crucial role in enhancing the economic well-being of local residents, many of whom relied on trade in the field for their livelihood. The revitalization has not only stimulated economic growth but has also fostered greater social interaction, making Beran Field a hub for community activities. The study employed a descriptive-analytic approach, utilizing qualitative methods, such as in-depth interviews, observations, and surveys, to gather data from traders, local officials, and residents. The findings suggest that revitalization has had a notable positive impact on the community's standard of living with increased income levels and improved social dynamics. This study serves as a valuable reference for policymakers and researchers interested in community-based public space development strategies to spur socioeconomic progress.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a potentially fatal infectious disease caused by the dengue virus, which is transmitted through the bites of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. In 2022, the Timor Tengah Utara Regency recorded 44 cases of DHF, with the highest incidence (31 cases) concentrated in the Sasi Public Health Center.Historical data revealed 56 cases in 2021, including one fatality, and 124 cases in 2020, with two deaths. This study aimed to analyze the influence of age, occupation, mobility, residence, income, and education on DHF incidence and examine the spatial distribution of DHF cases in the region using GeoDa software. Employing a descriptive-exploratory design, this study analyzed data from 224 patients with DHF. Bivariate LISA analysis revealed significant spatial autocorrelation for mobility (p = 0.0000), income (p = 0.0061), residence (p = 0.0003), and education (p = 0.0000), whereas age (p = 0.2774) and occupation (p = 0.9260) showed no significant relationships. Further testing with the Lagrange Multiplier (LM) model (p = 0.0000) confirmed spatial dependence, and the Spatial Autoregressive Model (SAR) was identified as the best model because of its highest R² (0.974420) and lowest AIC (329.606). These findings underscore the importance of considering spatial factors in DHF management and provide a foundation for targeted interventions, such as improving community awareness and resource allocation in high-risk areas. The results demonstrate the potential of spatial analysis tools to enhance public health strategies for infectious disease control.
