Abstract

Leek leaves (Allium fistulosum L.) are plants that contain flavonoid compounds with diverse biological activity potential. This study aims to examine the stable interaction of the docking results between the PPAR-γ receptor complex structure and the best candidate flavonoid compounds in leek leaves as antidiabetic candidates. The method used in this study is quantitative and designed using molecular docking techniques based on computational molecular dynamics (MD), which simulates the dynamic behaviour of a molecular system as a function of time, treating each entity in the simulation box (protein, ligand, or water, if present) as flexible. The results of molecular docking on 16 onion leaf flavonoid compounds showed that hesperidin had the smallest Gibbs free energy (ΔG) of -10.0 kcal/mol, which is close to that of natural ligands. The RMSD and RMSF values are sufficiently stable. Hesperidin also has good pharmacokinetic properties and is non-toxic, thus meeting the criteria for drug-likeness as a potential oral drug candidate. These findings indicate the potential for developing flavonoid compounds, particularly hesperidin from onion leaves, as a candidate for an antidiabetic drug by inhibiting the PPARγ receptor. This study provides a foundation for further in vitro and in vivo studies to validate its biological activity.

Abstract

Face mist is a cosmetic that is often used as a skin freshener, serves to refresh facial skin by removing residual oil, as a mild disinfectant, while closing pores again and can have activity as an antioxidant. The Sansevieria trifasciata Prain contains flavonoids, alkaloids and tannins that have the potential to be a source of natural antioxidants. This study aims to examine the potential of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water fractions of Sansevieria trifasciata Prain as active substances in face mist formulations. This study used the Fractionation and DPPH methods to determine the effectiveness of antioxidant activity of various formulations with F1 (n-hexane fraction); F2 (ethyl acetate fraction) and F3 (water fraction), which were compared with commercial products.. The results showed that F1 and F2 had strong antioxidant activity, while F3 had moderate antioxidant activity. The results of physical evaluation and stability tests using the accelerated stability method (cycling test) showed that the resulting face mist preparation met SNI standards, had good stability and did not cause irritation. From these results, it can be concluded that the n-hexane, ethyl acetate and Sansevieria trifasciata Prain leaf water fractions have the potential to be effective natural antioxidants in the formulation of face mist preparations.

Abstract

Fever is commonly managed using conventional oral medications, however, compresses remain a widely preferred adjunctive therapy. Most commercially available compresses are single-use, making them economically inefficient. Averrhoa bilimbi L. (bilimbi) possesses known antipyretic activity and contains bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins, which have potential as natural antipyretic agents. This study aimed to develop an optimal formulation based on varying concentrations of PVP K-30 and potassium chloride (KCl), and to evaluate the quality of bilimbi-based hydrogel and hydrogel plaster formulations that are reusable, stable, comfortable to use, and have minimal side effects. An experimental design was employed to prepare three hydrogel plaster formulations using different concentrations of PVP K-30 and KCl. The formulations were evaluated for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, adhesiveness, pH, gel fraction, swelling index, viscosity, thickness, moisture absorption, folding endurance, weight uniformity, and acceptability. All formulations met established quality standards for hydrogel and hydrogel plasters. The resulting plasters exhibited a solid gel consistency, green coloration, and a distinctive green tea scent, with safe pH values ranging from 4.2 to 6.5. The P4K2.5 formulation demonstrated the most stable viscosity (16,575.3 cP), while P4.5K3.5 was identified as the most optimal overall. P3.5K1 was most preferred in terms of color; P4K2.5 and P4.5K3.5 in aroma; and P3.5K1 and P4.5K3.5 in texture. After five hours of use, participants strongly favored P4K2.5 and P4.5K3.5. Notably, P4.5K3.5 also provided the highest cooling sensation after refrigeration and is recommended as a promising candidate for a reusable hydrogel plaster formulation for fever therapy.

Abstract

This systematic review examined the effectiveness of prophylactic antibiotic administration in reducing the risk of surgical wound infection in geriatric patients. This topic is of particular importance globally given the rapid increase in the elderly population susceptible to postoperative complications, as well as the variability of the existing evidence regarding the effectiveness and optimal duration of prophylactic antibiotics. Although many studies have been conducted, there has not been a comprehensive synthesis of recent evidence to fill the gap. This study, which is a systematic review based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, analyzes articles from the Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases (2020-2025). The study involved 31 articles that met the inclusion criteria, including retrospective observational studies and randomized clinical trials, with the primary outcomes of postoperative infections and antibiotic-related side effects. The analysis method includes evaluation of the quality of the study as well as narrative and quantitative synthesis. The results showed that the administration of prophylactic antibiotics appropriately significantly reduced the risk of infection, especially in high-risk surgeries such as colorectal, orthopedic, and cardiothoracic, with an optimal duration of about 24 hours postoperatively. The risk of antibiotic resistance and opportunistic infections remains a major concern. The practical implications demand the development of evidence-based guidelines with adjustments to the duration of administration and the strengthening of alternative prevention strategies. Advanced research with a multicenter randomized clinical trial design is essential to optimize prophylactic regimens in diverse and complex elderly populations.

Abstract

Antioksidan dibutuhkan guna meminimalisir radikal bebas.

Abstract

Traditional medicine practices in Indonesia have long utilised medicinal plants as the main foundation for public health resilience. This research aims to document local knowledge of medicinal plant usage and analyse its chemical profile to strengthen the scientific validity of traditional utilisation by the Purwakarta community. The methods used include ethnopharmacognosy surveys through semi-structured interviews with snowball sampling technique, specimen collection and identification, phytochemical screening of six groups of bioactive compounds, and qualitative-quantitative data analysis (UV, FUV, RFC, FL). The results show that there are 33 species of medicinal plants used by the communities of Taringgul Tonggoh and Wanasari villages, with leaves being the most utilised part (91% of oral usage). The Zingiberaceae family dominates the utilisation, while flavonoids and tannins were detected in the highest amounts in the phytochemical screening, supporting empirical claims as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial agents. These findings demonstrate the consistency between traditional practices and pharmacological potential, while also filling the gap in ethnopharmacognosy documentation in Purwakarta. The implications of this study strengthen the scientific basis for integrating local knowledge into modern pharmacy and open up opportunities for the development of phytopharmaceuticals based on local biodiversity.
