Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of traumatic counseling in reducing inner child trauma among female students at Universitas PGRI Argopuro Jember. Negative childhood experiences can lead to unresolved trauma that impacts adult behavior and mental well-being, hindering academic and personal growth. The research employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. A purposive sample of six female students with moderate to high inner child trauma was selected. Data was collected using a validated inner child trauma questionnaire and analyzed with a paired-sample t-test. The intervention consisted of six sessions incorporating writing therapy and a multicultural approach. The results showed a significant reduction in trauma scores from pretest to posttest (p0.05), indicating the counseling's high effectiveness. The intervention was particularly successful in improving emotional regulation, self-worth, and reducing feelings of guilt. These findings suggest that this integrated counseling model is a viable and effective method for addressing inner child trauma in university students.

Abstract

English is an international language and the medium of today's learning, especially in 21st century learning. In fact, in kindergarten (TK), everything is not mastered and even taught because it refers to language skills. There are 2 language skills taught in kindergarten which are listening and speaking. Speaking is highly recommended especially at an early age to become a habit, in fact in kindergarten there are still many who are not familiar with the language. This happens in Siloam Surakarta Kindergarten, although it is often taught but not fully mastered. From that, the purpose of this research is to find out the improvement of speaking skills in English for students at Siloam Kindergarten Surakarta. The method used in this research is classroom action research (PTK). The research subjects were small large class students (Kindergarten A Kindergarten B) totalling 20 respondents. The data collection instrument in this research is using tests, interviews and observations. The cycle was carried out in 2 cycles. The stages in this PTK are planning, action, observation, reflection. The results were analysed with excel related to the test results before PTK and after PTK. The results in cycle I of this study showed that the learning was carried out using the Experiential method, showing the average in English speaking learning outcomes was 50. But after cycle II, learning using Experiential learning methods adapted to the stages of PTK, then get a score 60 for the average. Based on these results, the experiential learning method is suitable to be applied in kindergarten especially in learning to speak in English.

Abstract

This study redefined English listening comprehension in the Indonesian EFL context by analyzing the interpretive challenges posed by ellipsis repair, boundary overrun, and disfluent clause markers features that were often overlooked in pedagogical models. Ellipsis repair referred to a listener’s attempt to reconstruct omitted elements in spontaneous speech, often caused by speakers backtracking or self-correcting mid-utterance. Boundary overrun described a speaker’s tendency to extend or blur syntactic units across intonation or clause boundaries, which made real-time parsing difficult. Disfluent clause markers included fillers, false starts, and hesitations that interrupted clause structure and challenged linear meaning construction. Conducted at three private universities in Indonesia located on Medan (North Sumatra), Manado (North Sulawesi), and Makassar (South Sulawesi), the research involved pre-intermediate-level students who engaged with authentic spoken English data. Using a qualitative discourse-based approach, the study examined comprehension breakdowns through think-aloud protocols and clause-level analysis. Findings revealed that listener difficulties were not incidental but structurally rooted in disrupted syntax and prosody. These disruptions challenged students’ ability to construct coherent meaning in real time. The study highlighted the need for instructional models that developed interpretive resilience, not just lexical decoding. It called for a shift toward listening pedagogies attuned to spontaneous speech, structural ambiguity, and repair negotiation. The findings offered implications for EFL curriculum design, assessment development, and real-world communication training across Indonesian educational contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the factors contributing to students’ speaking anxiety and the types of anxiety experienced by Grade 11 students at SMA Tahfiz Al-Batthawi NWDI Kerongkong in the 2025/2026 academic year. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires from six students. The findings reveal four main factors causing speaking anxiety: limited vocabulary, difficulties in pronunciation, fear of making mistakes, and fear of negative evaluation. The study also identifies three types of anxiety: state anxiety, trait anxiety, and situation-specific anxiety. These findings highlight that speaking anxiety significantly hinders students’ confidence and performance in English learning. The results suggest that teachers should create supportive classroom environments and provide strategies to reduce anxiety, thereby encouraging students to participate more actively in speaking activities.

Abstract

In today's digital era, multimedia is readily accessible through digital platforms and serves as a resource of language acquisition. This study examines how junior high school students' engagement with multimedia, specifically English movies or English-language videos, influences their speaking performance. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the correlation between junior high school students' multimedia engagement and speaking performance. A quantitative correlational design was employed to describe and quantify the degree of the correlation between junior high school students' multimedia engagement and their speaking performance. Participants included 96 students of ninth-grade students from MTSN 1 Kota Surabaya, selected by convenience sampling. Data were collected through two techniques: a questionnaire and a speaking performance test. The findings indicated that it rejected the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative hypothesis, which can be seen from the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Analysis result of .789, with a p-value less than .001, indicating a high degree of positive correlation. It means that as students' multimedia engagement increases, their speaking performance also improves. This high positive correlation implies that students' engagement with multimedia, especially English movies or English-language videos, positively influences students' speaking performance.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the direct and indirect effects of parents' educational level through the father's role on the development of independence and discipline in early childhood in Delang District, Lamandau Regency. The regression analysis results indicate that both educational level and the father’s role significantly affect children's independence (β = 0.484; β = 0.147) and discipline (β = 0.184; β = 0.137), with p-values less than 0.05. The Sobel test also confirms significant indirect effects of parental education on independence (Z = 2.85) and discipline (Z = 2.108) through the father’s involvement. These findings emphasize that higher parental education tends to encourage more active father involvement, which in turn plays a key role in shaping children's character, particularly in terms of independence and discipline. The study recommends promoting the educational role of fathers and supporting family-based education as essential foundations for positive early childhood development.

Abstract

This study aims to answer the following question: "Can the use of documentary videos in social studies learning improve social studies learning outcomes of grade VIII students at SMP Negeri I Banawa?" The main purpose of this study is to find out whether grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 01 Banawa can improve their learning capacity through the use of documentary videos. The study used a pretest-posttest experimental design with a control group and a quasi-experimental approach. The basic random sampling method is used to obtain the sample. All 120 grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Banawa were considered for this study. Thirty students from class VIII B became an experimental group that watched a documentary; thirty students from class VIII D became a control group that did not watch the documentary. Multiple-choice exams containing 20 questions designed to measure students' progress in history and geography lessons are used as research instruments. Statistical analysis, i.e. t-test in Excel, is used to analyze the data obtained from exam instruments. Based on the findings of the study, the null hypothesis is rejected and an alternative hypothesis is accepted when the resulting values are greater than 2,366 and 2,003, respectively, at a significance level (α) of 0.05. This shows that grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Banawa can benefit from the use of documentary videos in the classroom.

Abstract

This study explores the use of deixis in Olivia Rodrigo's song "Happier." It examines how deixis constructs emotional meaning and narrative coherence through linguistic elements. The focus is on identifying and analyzing five types of deixis: person, temporal, spatial, social, and discourse. This analysis interprets how language operates pragmatically within the song. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research applies Levinson's framework for a detailed textual analysis. The song was selected purposively due to its emotional depth and linguistic richness. The findings reveal that person deixis is the most dominant type. It reflects the narrator's shifting emotional position toward her ex-partner and his new relationship. Temporal deixis marks the emotional timeline of the breakup. Meanwhile, spatial deixis subtly conveys psychological distance. Social deixis uncovers power dynamics and feelings of inferiority. Discourse deixis helps maintain the coherence of the emotional narrative. Each type of deixis contributes to building a layered and affective discourse that enhances the song's emotional resonance. The study concludes that deixis functions not only as a grammatical tool but also as an expressive and narrative device in popular music. The song "Happier" exemplifies how deixis can encode emotional complexity. This makes it a useful medium for both linguistic analysis and language learning. The research recommends further studies on deixis in multiple songs to gain broader insights into its stylistic and pragmatic functions.
