Abstract

The philosophy of Pancasila as the final ideology and foundation for the life of the Indonesian nation and state has its roots in the personality and identity of the Indonesian people for hundreds of years, with its values embedded since the era of the archipelago’s kingdoms. The founders of the republic fought for independence by establishing Pancasila as the guiding principle for societal, national, and state life, as emphasized by Bung Karno, who even proposed at the UN General Assembly on September 30, 1960, that Pancasila be applied in international relations. However, in recent times, its existence as a national ideology has been questioned, making it essential to revitalize and reestablish Pancasila so that Indonesia can interact with dignity among nations, stand firmly amidst globalization’s risks, conflicts, and fierce competition, and ensure that future generations inherit and uphold Pancasila as a pillar of national character education for centuries to come.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the internship program within the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy at the English Education Study Program of Universitas Pasir Pengaraian, specifically for eighth-semester students. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with participating students. The findings indicate that the majority of students responded positively towards the planning and execution of the internship program, as well as the support received from academic supervisors and partner institutions. Students felt that the internship tasks were relevant to their academic background and contributed to the development of communication, time management, and teamwork skills. However, some students faced challenges in adapting to workplace culture and balancing academic workload with internship responsibilities. This research recommends enhancements in pre-internship preparation, more consistent supervision, and clearer communication regarding MBKM objectives to improve future internship experiences. Thus, the internship program is expected to be more effective in preparing students to meet the increasingly complex demands of the workforce.

Abstract

Preservice teachers often face challenges in designing instructional plans that are coherent, goal-oriented, and adaptable to diverse student needs. Although various instructional design models exist, their practical use remains limited. This study explores the application of the REAL (Review, Elaborate, Apply, Lead-up) model and Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires and unstructured interviews. Results show that the REAL model supports systematic and practical instructional design, with a satisfaction score of 2.70 indicating positive responses. Interviews further reveal increased confidence and clarity among preservice teachers. This model is recommended for use as a practical framework in the design of teaching instruction and is suggested for further evaluation to enhance its scalability and impact across different educational contexts.

Abstract

In the context of globalization, English speaking proficiency has become increasingly crucial, particularly in ASEAN countries such as Thailand. However, Thai EFL learners often struggle with speaking due to low confidence, limited vocabulary, and traditional teacher-centered methods. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed to improve Thai primary students’ English-speaking skills through a culturally responsive and media-supported approach. The intervention was conducted at Islam Suksa Darulbir School, Satun, Thailand, during an international teaching program involving Indonesian preservice teachers from August 1–28, 2024. The program integrated YouTube video-based learning with interactive speaking activities across six sessions. The participants were 28 students from Grades V and VI with low speaking proficiency. Data were collected through speaking pre- and post-tests, classroom observations, interviews, and documentation. The results showed significant improvement in students’ accuracy (from 68.14 to 76.14), fluency (from 70.18 to 77.32), and comprehension (from 72.04 to 79.18), with an overall average gain of 7.54 points. Reliability testing using Cronbach’s Alpha yielded a value of 0.975, indicating excellent instrument consistency. Qualitative findings revealed increased classroom engagement, confidence, and communicative competence. Students responded enthusiastically to contextual video input and the culturally familiar presence of the Indonesian teacher, which fostered a supportive and interactive learning environment. The study concludes that integrating educational media with international teaching programs enhances speaking skills and learner motivation in EFL contexts. It recommends wider implementation of student-centered, media-rich strategies and expanded collaboration in cross-cultural teaching initiatives. These findings offer practical insights for educators, curriculum developers, and language policymakers aiming to improve EFL speaking instruction.

Abstract

This study examines the use of Indonesian short stories as a medium of cultural diplomacy in learning Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) at Phatnawitya School, Yala, Thailand. Although literary texts have long been used in BIPA learning, studies that specifically examine their role as an instrument of cultural diplomacy in the context of multicultural education are still limited. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of short stories as a means of cultural diplomacy in the BIPA learning process at Phatnawitya School. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that short stories were effective in improving the language skills of foreign learners, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. In addition, the use of short stories also encourages understanding and appreciation of Indonesian culture. The learners showed high enthusiasm and were able to express their ideas through the presentation of their work. Thus, short stories have proven to contribute positively to the development of language competence and become a means of conveying Indonesian cultural values subtly (soft diplomacy) in the realm of international education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the strategies for implementing character education at Rusmee Sthapana School in Mayo, Pattani, Thailand region predominantly inhabited by a Muslim minority. The school integrates Islamic values and local cultural traditions into its educational practices. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, involving school principals, teachers, students, and community members. The findings indicate that character education at the school is implemented holistically and contextually. Key strategies include the integration of character values into classroom instruction, daily habituation through morning halaqah and congregational prayers, role modeling by teachers and school leaders, active participation of parents and the surrounding community, as well as observation-based non-academic assessments. These practices are in line with Thomas Lickona’s (2018) framework of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action, and reflect the competencies of 21st-century learning as outlined by Trilling and Fadel (2016). This study contributes to the discourse on contextually grounded character education models rooted in religious and cultural values within multicultural educational settings.
