Abstract

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are essential in developing students’ critical and analytical abilities, particularly through reading activities. Many English textbooks still lack adequate integration of HOTS-based tasks, creating a gap between curriculum expectations and actual practice. This study aimed to analyze the distribution of HOTS in the reading exercises of the “English for Nusantara” textbook for eighth grade junior high school students. Employing a descriptive qualitative method and content analysis, data were collected from five chapters of the textbook used at SMP Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli Barat. A checklist based on Bloom’s Taxonomy was used to identify HOTS elements. The findings revealed that only 23 out of 116 reading exercises (19.6%) contained HOTS components. The most common skill was analyzing (C4), followed by creating (C6) and evaluating (C5). These results indicate limited integration of HOTS in the textbook, which highlights the need for improvement in English instructional materials.

Abstract

This literature review explores the emerging roles of collaboration and co-creation in the reform of educational public administration. Traditional bureaucratic and hierarchical models of governance are increasingly being replaced by participatory frameworks that emphasize shared responsibility, stakeholder engagement, and innovation. Drawing from theories of New Public Governance, public value, and service-dominant logic, this review synthesizes findings from peer-reviewed journals, policy documents, and case studies published between 2005 and 2025. The study identifies four major themes: conceptual foundations of co-creation, stakeholder roles and participatory mechanisms, enabling conditions for collaborative innovation, and institutional barriers to implementation. Findings suggest that collaborative and co-creative models offer promising avenues for improving the legitimacy, responsiveness, and effectiveness of education systems. When supported by trust, leadership, adequate resources, and shared vision, these models foster inclusive and context-sensitive reforms. However, challenges such as bureaucratic rigidity, power imbalances, limited capacity, and cultural resistance continue to constrain implementation. The review emphasizes the need for context-specific, adaptive, and well-resourced approaches to institutionalize co-creation in education. By providing a thematic synthesis of current knowledge, this review contributes to both academic discourse and practical policymaking in public administration and education reform. It also highlights critical gaps for future research, particularly in developing and underrepresented contexts.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze the implementation strategies of the Merdeka Curriculum in order to improve the quality of education at the Junior High School (SMP) level in the Labuhan Haji Barat District. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis involving school principals, teachers, supervisors, and school committees as key informants. The research results show that schools in the Labuhan Haji Barat District have implemented several important strategies, including: strengthening the role of school principals as learning leaders, forming teacher practitioner communities, utilizing the Merdeka Mengajar digital platform, and implementing projects based on local wisdom. The main challenges faced include the low digital literacy of some teachers, limited infrastructure, and relatively high administrative demands. These findings indicate that to optimize the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, it is crucial to maximize the leadership of school principals and the existing culture of teacher collaboration to leverage online training and digital learning resources. Integrate the Pancasila Student Profile project with local themes to increase student interest. This study recommends strengthening teachers' digital literacy, improving infrastructure, and encouraging sustainable collaboration to enhance the impact of curriculum implementation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media in enhancing English vocabulary mastery among eighth-grade students at SMP IT AL-IHYA. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) following the Kurt Lewin model, conducted in two cycles. Data collection involved observations, interviews, pre-tests, post-tests, and documentation. The results showed a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery. The pre-cycle average score was 64.48 with only 24% of students reaching the minimum mastery level. After the implementation of AR-based learning in Cycle I, the average score increased to 70 with 40% of students achieving mastery. In Cycle II, the class average rose sharply to 87.4, with 100% of students achieving mastery. Observation of student activity also improved, from 52.38% in the pre-cycle to 90.47% in Cycle II. Based on the N-Gain Score of 0.645, the effectiveness of the intervention was categorized as moderate. These findings suggest that AR-based learning not only improves vocabulary mastery but also increases student engagement in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the meaning of psychological safety for santri in the context of the implementation of the Pesantren Sharing and Care (PSP) program carried out by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Sumenep Regency. The background of this study is the increasing awareness of the importance of creating a pesantren environment that is not only religious but also child-friendly and supportive of the psychosocial well-being of santri. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data was collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentary studies at two boarding schools targeted by the PSP program. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis. The research findings revealed four main themes related to psychological safety: (1) feeling safe to speak up and express opinions without fear of punishment, (2) the development of empathetic relationships between students and caregivers, (3) the importance of physical spaces that support emotional comfort, such as counseling rooms and gardens, and (4) challenges posed by seniority culture and hidden violence that still persist. The PSP program plays a significant role in creating a more open, participatory, and caring environment that addresses the emotional needs of students. However, achieving a comprehensive transformation of values requires time, continuous evaluation, and structural and cultural support from all elements of the boarding school.

Abstract

Humans are monodualistic beings who have roles as individuals and social beings. As individuals, humans are given the intellect, thoughts, and feelings to develop themselves and meet their life needs independently. As social beings, humans live in society, nation, and state, so they need each other. In modern society, various organizations have emerged, including government organizations that according to the political trias consist of the legislature, executive, and judiciary. At the highest executive level there is a president, while at the village level there is a village head. The Village Head, who is democratically and traditionally elected, plays an extension of the community to regulate, maintain, and motivate residents in the development process. The success of village development is highly dependent on the leadership of the Village Head in mobilizing community participation. As God's creatures with the highest degree, humans have the responsibility as caliphs on earth to maintain the balance and continuity of life. In everyday life, the essence of human beings as individuals and social beings is obvious; When faced with difficulties, human beings need the help of others, while in personal affairs, they tend to maintain privacy as a form of individuality. This balance between individual and social roles is the basis for the progress of society, including at the village level, where cooperation between leaders and citizens is the key to the success of sustainable development.

Abstract

The alignment of English teaching materials with international standards was crucial in ensuring effective language learning, particularly under Indonesia’s Merdeka Curriculum. This study aimed to evaluate the conformity of reading texts in the Grade 11 English textbook Bahasa Inggris: English for Change to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), an internationally recognized framework for language proficiency ranging from A1 to C2. Fifteen reading texts, which were specifically selected from the textbook’s reading comprehension sections, were analyzed using a quantitative approach. Key textual features examined included word count, average sentence length, average word length, and lexical complexity to determine each text’s CEFR level. The analysis revealed a wide range of levels, from B1 to C2, with several texts exceeding the B1–B2 target level set by the Merdeka Curriculum. This inconsistency suggested a misalignment between textbook materials and curriculum expectations, which might have affected student learning outcomes. The study underscored the importance of systematic textbook evaluation to ensure all reading materials supported the intended language proficiency goals.
