Abstract

This study examines the role of digital linguistics—emoji use, code-switching, and hashtags—in shaping employee engagement within a private logistics company in Medan, Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with employees actively engaged in internal digital communication, and were analyzed thematically. Findings indicate that emojis help soften messages, reduce tension, and foster warmth in workplace interactions. Code-switching between Indonesian, English, and local dialects functions as a social adaptation strategy and professional identity marker. Hashtags, though less frequent, act as symbolic tools for uniting teams, reinforcing collective identity, and emphasizing project goals. Together, these practices enrich digital communication and support the dimensions of vigor, dedication, and absorption in employee engagement. Grounded in Social Exchange Theory (SET) and Media Richness Theory (MRT), this research underscores digital linguistics as a strategic HRM tool for enhancing engagement, while highlighting organizational reputation and governance as crucial supporting factors.

Abstract

Racism is still a prevalent problem in society and is frequently examined in literature and film. Few studies have looked at how racism is created and expressed via characterization in movie scripts using literary frameworks, despite the fact that many have tackled it from historical and sociological viewpoints. Using Wellek and Warren's intrinsic and extrinsic literary techniques as well as George M. Fredrickson's theory of racism, this study attempts to examine how aspects of racism are portrayed in the film script Green Book through the portrayal of its central characters. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to find dialogues and settings that illustrate social inequality, racial prejudice, and the formation of racial identity. While previous research has explored the script of this film but they have not directly discussed the elements of racism that occur in this film, this study can bring the theme of racism deeper into the field of narrative and characterization.

Abstract

This study highlights the vital role of socio-emotional and language development in early childhood as key foundations for later success. It investigates the influence of parenting styles and parental educational attainment on these developmental aspects among children at Murung Raya Kindergarten, Banjarmasin. Using a quantitative explanatory design and path analysis, data were collected from 173 parents through validated Likert-scale questionnaires. Results showed that parenting style significantly influenced language (β=0.253; p0.05) and socio-emotional development (β=0.622; p0.05), while parental education also had significant effects on both domains. Socio-emotional development strongly predicted language outcomes (β=0.578; p0.05) and mediated the relationships between parenting style and language development (Sobel = 6.674; p0.05), and parental education and language development (Sobel = 4.832; p0.05). These findings underscore the importance of supportive parenting and educational backgrounds in promoting holistic early childhood development and highlight the value of family-based interventions.

Abstract

A lot of research has been done on code mixing, which frequently happens in multilingual communities, especially on its variations, causes, and goals. Research on code mixing techniques in professional mass media and their connection to identity formation is still lacking, though. By analyzing code mixing in the television program MasterChef Indonesia and concentrating on how it denotes culinary proficiency and shape’s identity, this study closes that gap. 20 utterances from several video during seasons 10–12 MasterChef Indonesia are examined in this study. Using a descriptive qualitative methodology and analyzed through analytical approach by using several theories from Muysken (2000), Hoffman (1991), and Bucholtz Hall (2005). According to the study's findings, insertion is the most prevalent kind of code mixing and is employed to express ideas, feelings, and culinary phrases. It also aids in the development of identities, such as those of experts, mentors, or students.

Abstract

Writing is one of the most challenging skills for junior high school students, who often face difficulties in generating ideas, organizing them into coherent paragraphs, and applying correct grammar and vocabulary. Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) offers an alternative approach by linking classroom instruction with students’ real-life experiences, thus creating more meaningful and engaging learning activities. This study aims to analyze the implementation of CTL in teaching English writing, to identify the challenges encountered, and to explore the strategies used to overcome them. The research was conducted at SMPN SATAP 2 Aikmel with 15 seventh-grade students, consisting of 8 females and 7 males, who were selected through purposive sampling. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, with data collected through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation of students’ writing products. The findings indicate that the teacher applied CTL principles such as constructivism, inquiry, modeling, collaboration, reflection, and authentic assessment in teaching recount and descriptive texts. Students responded positively, showing greater motivation and confidence when writing tasks were connected to their personal experiences. However, challenges such as limited vocabulary, grammar weaknesses, and time constraints still emerged. To address these, the teacher implemented scaffolding, modeling, peer collaboration, and authentic tasks, which helped students improve both writing skills and motivation. Overall, the study confirms that CTL is an effective framework for enhancing students’ writing ability and engagement in English learning.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the importance of curriculum development in improving the quality of education at the secondary school level. An adaptive curriculum that aligns with the needs of both students and the wider community is expected to foster the optimal achievement of educational goals. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis followed the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing to provide an in-depth understanding of the curriculum development process at SMAN 1 Kelumpang Utara. The findings reveal that curriculum development at SMAN 1 Kelumpang Utara has been implemented in accordance with established procedures, particularly in the aspects of planning, implementation, and evaluation. The results align with the CIPP model of curriculum evaluation, which emphasizes the integration of context, input, process, and product. Nevertheless, challenges remain, particularly the limited involvement of teachers and the community in each stage, indicating that the principle of relevance to learners’ and environmental needs has not been fully realized. Overall, the developed curriculum has contributed positively to educational quality, yet it still requires strengthened coordination, collaboration, and continuous adaptation to both national policy dynamics and local needs.

Abstract

The disruption era requires an inclusive and comprehensive observation and research, especially in the world of education in Indonesia. God created humans as caliphs (God's representatives) on earth. Therefore, God gives something that can be seen by humans, heard by humans, felt by humans, and made by humans with the concept of thinking according to the teachings of Alquran. The Word of God, I sent Alqur'an down to the earth for people who want to think (have sense/faith). The famous French philosopher, Descartes said, "I think then I am". For God, nothing is impossible in this world. In the book al-Ghunyah, al-Jailani mentions that those who are pious in a hadith the Prophet said, "The definition of takwa is summarized in the words of Allah," Verily Allah commands (you) to be fair and do good, give to relatives, and Allah prohibit from vile actions, munkar, and hostility. He gives teaching to you so you can take lessons. " (Q.S. An-Nahl/16: 90). The lesson here is interpreted as a learning process in Islamic religious education in the reconstruction of human resource management. In Law No.20/2003 concerning National Education System, the implementation of education must hold several principles, namely education is held in a democratic and just manner and not discriminatory by upholding human rights, religious values, cultural values, and national plurality with a systemic unity with the system open and multi-meaningful. In addition, the implementation must also be in a process of civilization and empowerment of students that lasts a lifetime by giving example, developing willingness, and developing students' creativity in the learning process through developing a culture of reading, writing and counting for all citizens to empower all components of society through participation in the implementation and quality control of education services. The author uses descriptive research methods with library research research. The author makes use of the literature on education and human resource management. In the field of education the main purpose of research and development is not to formulate or test a theory, but to develop effective products for use in schools.

Abstract

This study aims to explore students' perceptions of the use of English songs, particularly within the RB soul pop genre, in improving their speaking ability. The research focuses on five key aspects of speaking: pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension of meaning, and psychological readiness to speak. A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed, involving 59 sixth-semester students of the English Language Education Study Program at Sriwijaya University who had experience learning through songs. Data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and song-based assessments, including lyric completion, reading aloud, and question-and-answer activities related to the song's content. The findings revealed that most students held positive perceptions toward the use of English songs as a medium for speaking practice. Many reported improvements in pronunciation, vocabulary mastery, and fluency, while also highlighting reduced anxiety and increased motivation. However, some challenges were identified, such as difficulty in understanding fast-paced lyrics, unfamiliar accents, and cultural expressions. Overall, English songs proved to be an effective, interactive, and enjoyable learning tool for enhancing students’ speaking performance, provided they are supported by appropriate teaching strategies and sufficient instructional guidance.
