Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of AI ChatGPT in enhancing writing skills among Indonesian EFL learners at MA NWDI Tembeng Putik. A qualitative case study was conducted with 30 senior high school students using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The findings indicate that students benefited from ChatGPT in three main areas: improving grammar accuracy, strengthening coherence in essay organization, and supporting autonomous revision. Many students also reported that ChatGPT provided useful prompts when they faced difficulties generating ideas, although its impact on writing confidence was more limited. These results suggest that ChatGPT can serve as a valuable supplementary tool for EFL writing instruction, particularly in resource-limited classrooms. However, the study emphasizes the need for teacher guidance to ensure that AI use fosters critical thinking and responsible learning practices.

Abstract

This quantitative study investigated the impact of ChatGPT-assisted free writing on idea development in letter writing among seven 11th-grade students at SMA NAM IBS over six weeks. Using a single-group pre-test-post-test design, five assessments were conducted: a pre-test, three ChatGPT-assisted exercises, and a post-test. Descriptive statistics showed an increase in mean scores from pre-test (M = 78.43) to post-test (M = 86.00), indicating improvement. However, repeated measures ANOVA showed no significant difference (F(4, 24) = 1.43, p 0.05). This may have been due to small sample size, non-normal data, sphericity violations, and high within-subject variability. Despite the lack of statistical significance, the upward trend suggested potential benefits of ChatGPT. Further research with larger samples, improved rubrics, and adjusted statistical methods was suggested to validate ChatGPT’s effectiveness in enhancing idea development. Keywords: ChatGPT, Free Writing, Idea Development, Letter Writing

Abstract

This study developed an innovative learning model that integrates Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Extended Reality (XR), and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) for pre-service teachers in the Cultural Arts PPG program. Employing the ADDIE framework, the research focused on the Analysis, Design, and Development phases. Twenty-four PPG students participated in the pilot phase. Findings revealed a lack of immersive learning media to support empathy, reflection, and emotion regulation in teaching practice. The designed model integrated XR-based simulations and PjBL to foster interactive and reflective learning. A Virtual Lab prototype was created featuring scenario-based SEL tasks and collaborative art projects. Expert reviews and alpha testing demonstrated increased student engagement, improved emotional awareness, and readiness to apply SEL principles in real classroom contexts. This model contributes to equipping future educators with adaptive, empathetic professional identities and highlights the potential of technology-enhanced pedagogies in teacher education.

Abstract

This study examines how The Boys in the Boat (2023) represents the American Dream in 1930s American society through the portrayal of social and economic conditions.  Set during the Great Depression, the film depicts poverty, unemployment, and social pressure, illustrating the working class’s struggle to achieve success and foster nationalism through the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the analysis covers both intrinsic and extrinsic elements. The findings show that the film highlights resilience, solidarity, and persistence among the lower class in facing adversity. Overall, it reflects the socio-political climate of 1930s America and presents the American Dream as a symbol of hope and revival amid crisis.

Abstract

Independence is an important aspect in the development of students, especially in Islamic boarding schools that demand self-adjustment in a new environment. However, many students have difficulty adapting due to a lack of independence. This study uses a quantitative approach with a Quasi Experimental design of the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample amounted to 18 students divided into the experimental group (n=9) and the control group (n=9). The research instruments are in the form of self-adjustment scales, sociometry, and counseling modules. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test with the help of SPSS version 16.0. The average posttest score of the experimental group increased significantly from 51.18 to 67.86, while the control group only increased from 51.15 to 51.28. The Mann-Whitney test showed significant differences between the two groups (U=0.000; p0.05). These findings show that peer group counseling based on pesantren is effective in increasing student independence. This service is relevant to the cultural context of the pesantren because it involves peers as counselors, so that it is more in line with the needs of students. Peer group counseling has proven to be effective in increasing the independence of students at the Darqis Lebaksiu Islamic Boarding School.

Abstract

Speaking proficiency is essential for academic and social development of EFL students. However, numerous students often struggle with limited vocabulary, grammatical deficiencies, and a lack of confidence which contribute to their speaking performance. Therefore, this study exposes the effectiveness of Information Gap Activities (IGA) to elevate students’ speaking skills – specifically in fluency and comprehensibility – of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Sigi. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two groups: an experimental class received IGA treatment and a control class taught by using conventional methods, with a total of 60 student participants. Both groups were given pre-tests and post-tests to measure their speaking ability before and after the treatment. Pre-test and post-test data were analyzed using SPSS. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group, with the mean score increasing from 41.67 to 67.50, compared to the control group’s increase from 41.67 to 50.56. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test (p = 0.000) and Mann-Whitney U Test (p = 0.000) confirmed this difference to be statistically significant. These findings suggest that Information Gap Activities can effectively enhance students’ speaking abilities, offering a communicative and interactive alternative to traditional instructional approaches.
